Aaron Ely moves from 119 to 125- he's an outstanding wrestler with great credentials I think he would want an opportunity to avenge his loss to Altman in last year's state finals and his getting pinned by Livengood this year-
Why would somebody move up a weight this late in the season? He still has things to prove at 119

There was an article last week in the Leavenworth newspaper which stated Ely was experiencing a growth spurt and likely be moving to 125 lbs., and I believe at the Washburn Rural Duals he wrestled at 125 lbs..

Ely does not run from competition and if he were to run, why would he run to a weight classification loaded with talent to include Shumate.

Sir Richard is right on the money. Ely don't run from anyone. Of course talk about how he is or how he isn't any good and watch him excel. Some of us had the honor of seeing that at Newton.

Again, Ely is a great kid and a great wrestler; I suspect he could win states at 130;just curious about the move, that's all

I agree with all of you, just was worried about rumors and not facts. Thanks for filling me in Richard, as always you do your research to enlighten the rest of our inquiring minds. Ely is such a hard worker, I could see him running but not to dodge competition! Good luck Aaron in whatever weight class you wrestle at state.

I am Aaron's dad and I must say that this topic as a whole offends my family on many levels. First of all lets not forget that these are kids that are being discussed and for you to say that Aaron is running to 125lbs. is absurd. You definitely don't know Aaron as well as you might think to even suggest such a thing. Secondly, if you did know Aaron you would know that he has been a undersized his whole life. So now that he has finally hit a grow spurt is something that we are not going to stifle in fact, we encourage it. As a father I can not sit back and watch my son starve himself with a 2-3% body fat ratio just to maintain 119lbs. Yes, we too love the competition, but at what price. My son is 16 years old and has a very bright future ahead of him that doesn't need to be put in jeopardy just for dream match ups or your idea that he has something to prove by avenging any loss. Also as a dad I can tell you that my son is a student athlete with emphasis being put on student first, which he happens to be a very good one. You can't fight nature, he's growing and that's a good thing he shouldn't be ridiculed for it. I really must question your priorities to even say such an idiotic statement. My only hope is that you can reconsider and get your priorities straight.

Sundevil,

Your post is one of the most uninformed and hurtful post I have read on the talk forms.

It not Aaron's idea to move to 125. In fact, one of his arguments against moving up is that, "people will say I am running". Well thanks to your uninformed post...Aaron was right.

Aaron's coaches, parents, and friends are the one pushing Aaron's move. All have a little move information about what is best for Aaron and have a slightly longer vision for Aaron than your idea of a (censored) check at the state tournment.

Aaron has wrestle 125 a couple of times this year to include last week where he went 5-0, beating one of Kansas best (Kevin Calahan), and earned outstanding wrestler of the tourey.

Aaron you listen to your coaches and dad, and frankly I am tierd of calling you "stick boy". Go big...remember the first weight in college is 125 and those are some big boys.

Sean, Nick and I are coming to your duals tommorrow night...see you there.

sundevil, it is obvious that a number of individuals including family members have taken this post the wrong way. If your intent is truly good, and desires the best for Aaron, there is a thing called the edit button that you can use to correct the title of the thread and comments referring to him running. Aaron is one of the most respected kids in Kansas, it is obvious that many don't like even the impression of disrespect for this young man. For even the short time I have been in Kansas I know that one of the reasons is that he don’t run from people, he has run to them desiring to wrestle the best he can. I know several kids have hit growth spurts lately, and for those, Aaron sets a good example, don’t shortcut what God is trying to do to your body, grow.

I would say to everyone that we must remember this is a chat forum where kids will smack talk and we need to just get over it. Aaron Ely is a gifted athlete and he knows what his body can and can't do. It is important to do what is best for his health. If he is at 2 or 3 % body fat that is really low and could use the step up to help his growth and health.

Don't let one person's opinion get to you. Your job is to do the right thing for you or your wrestler. People will always make rude comments but the better people realize this and not let it get to them.

I think he might feel a lot better and if he can wrestle better than he did in the finals in Newton, than 6A 125 better watch out and I look forward to a Shumate/Ely match. Could be the match of the state tourney. Good luck to both of you!

SlammerDad,

I think you made a wise choice moving Aaron to 125. He is a stud at 119 or 125. God Bless-Coach Parks

If smack is indeed tolerated or welcomed here, (I would disagree), then the originator of this thread should be able to accept it as well as dish it out. It would only seem fair.

Exactly why I hate the thought of 3 separate state tournaments......I think the casual fan may be overwhelmed by it all, but to be able to see all of the great matches is a lot of fun, and, in my opinion, good for the sport.

Aaron,

Remember there are only about 3 people's opinions that really matter in this entire thread....

1. Your parents
2. Your coach
3. "The man in the mirror"

Your dad is right on the money. Take it from me....I cut too much during my growth spurt and I think it hurt me. Not only from a growth perspective but from a wrestling perspective also. Who knows....I may have squeezed out a couple of inches and could be all of 5'4" vice 5'2". You have much more potential...don't stifle it! As far as the wrestling....I am sure it cost me a state championship. I got 2nd because I was too weak. It also hurt my grades. Your parents and coaches are right on target...listen to them!

To Aaron's Dad and Aaron,

Thanks for allowing me the privalege to work with you this fall. If you need anything let me know!
Finish the season strong and let your wrestling do the talking.

Shawn

I have known Aaron and his family since he first started wrestling, and I saw him last week,he is bigger, stronger and more than ready to move up, it is a great choice in my opinion since he will definitely looking at college wrestling in his future. I saw the same choice get made by Meneely from Omaha Skutt as well,,go for it and best of luck,

From what I've seen from Ely, most kids run from him. He is in the same category as Perez, Shumate and Altman and that's pretty good company.
