Does anyone know if these tournaments will be weak or tough? Salina South and Chanute. I only have heard of a few teams that will be at these tournaments and I am not impressed. Can someone help me out and tell me some more schools. Thanks.

The teams attending the Salina South Tournament are Salina South, Salina Central, Manhattan, Hutchinson, Great Bend, Atchison, Tonganoxie, Washburn Rural, Wichita West, Junction City, KC Turner, and Gardner Edgerton.
I think the teams at this tournament are very good and present great lineups week in and week out.

I wresltle for Spring Hill and last year, since our team was pretty good, we took a trip to Salina for that tourney. We had one every tourny we were in up until that one. We arent goin this year because from 145 up were all senoirs. Our coach knows that now all we have is lower weights and will suck to bad to return to salina

it is not a very tough tourny but watch for the SMS int. because Platte Co. of missouri is going to be there and they will be good gauges to see how good the KS wrestlers at the tourny are.

the bvnw invitational is pretty tough. i think about 20 teams and it has hutchingson, WW, and goddard to say the least. this is a tournament to separate the boys from the men, u can see some awesome matches at this one.

The Bobcat Classic (Basehor-Linwood Tourney) is beginning its third year on Jan. 17 and 18th. This year 22 teams will compete that will include several programs that have placed at state as a team over the past few years (ACCHS-Effingham, Columbus, Fort Scott, Garden City, Glenwood, Iowa, Paola, Santa Fe Trail). St. Thomas Aquinas, Olathe North, Junction City, Shawnee Heights, Free State, Turner, Baldwin, Chapman, Spring Hill, Bonner Springs, Sumner, Eudora, Blue Valley, Harmon, and Basehor-Linwood also will compete. 38 returning state medalists, 11 2002 state finalists, and 6 2002 returning state champions return this year (this does not include Glenwood , Iowa's top finishers from last year). To give you an idea of the strength of this tournament . Last years 6A-5A-4A state champions at 160 were all here. Brett Stewart JC was first, Kurtis Baylor Columbus was 2nd, and Nathan Payne Paola was 3rd. Also 2001 state champion Mike Stienmetz Turner took 5th. That is just one great example of the competition at this tournament. Please come and enjoy.

I think that the Bobcat Classic is by far the toughest tournament out there next to state. In some weight classes it is even harder than your state bracket. BVNW tournament isn't all that tough. There are a couple of good kids in certain weight classes, but it is not stacked like the Bobcat Classic.

The Beloit tournament also looks to be tough as always. Last year off the top of my head there were about 13 eventual state champions, and I think around 8 runner-ups. State Champions: Kriegbaum(103), Mainus(112), Charbonneau(119), Spillman(119), Gilliland(125), Johnson(130), Zouzas(130), Wise(135), Drennan(140), Vogelsberg(171), Mortimer(189), Strait(189), Staab(215). Please fill in any I've missed.

I would like to see a similiar list from the Newton tournament, which I think is probably the toughest tourney in Kansas. Other tough tourneys in my opinion are: 2.Beliot 3.Bashor-Linwood 4.Garden City 5.Liberal 6.Colby dual tourney 7.Hays

I would have to say the toughest tournament in Kansas would be Newton. If you place at Newton you have a great chance of placing in any class at State.

You're right Mike. After some more thought I would add Rose Hill at maybe 4 or 5, would also add Derby at 9 and perhaps Ark city to make it a top 10. I'm sure I'm forgetting a tournament somewhere.
