2 Kansas high schoolers graduated the 28 day JRobinson Intensive Camp today at the University of Minnesota. They are Ken Livengood, Blue Valley North and Gage Deere, Washburn Rural.

Liam Kastor (a Bishop Carroll-Wichita wrestler) attended the camp in summer 2004. The
competition was great--he wrestled (and beat) the Minnesota state champion, and got to wrestle a RussianOlympic wrestler--but the climate of the campsucked: there were some truly messed up
kids there. For example, one guy spit in
his face, harassed him the entire week,
and when Liam complained the staff acted like
HE was the problem rather than the young man
who apparently did not understand the meaning
of sssault and battery. After this,
I wondered whether this was really the best
place to send a kid.

Is wrestling a sport, which breeds mutual respect
between opponents, or is it combat, in which
the opponent is the enemy, and any kind of
cheating and cheap shots and despicable
behavior is tolerated or even encouraged?

Are you sure Liam went to JRob in 2004? That would have been last summer. Atticus and Romero and the Livingood's out of Blue Valley were there and the only Kansas kids I heard about. I am pretty sure I would have heard if Liam was there since we know him pretty well.

Thats too bad---it is a tough camp and definitely not for everyone, but i could not be more pleased with what i saw of the camp and their intense style. Gage knew what he was walking in to thanks to talking a bit to Atticus and Romero.
