I have read the topic and understand what you are saying. I think everyone out there would like to see one of our D1 schools pick up wrestling again. I would like to bring up some items that we should all think about. I am guilty of this more than anyone. How many people help support the college programs in the state that we now have? I know District donates money to the colleges and so does USA Kansas wrestling. But that amount of money isn’t enough. Not to many years ago our Kansas colleges could not compete with other states in the amount of scholarship money that it gave out. So our good wrestlers were going elsewhere to wrestle.
How many people from across the state go to matches at Labette, Neosho, Colby, Newman, and FHSU, to show support. When my son was at Labette they would have maybe 200 fans, but most of the time less. I now go to the matches at FHSU and they have about 300 or so fan at most of the duals sometimes more. How do you think our college wrestlers would react if every home match was a sellout and standing room only. Wouldn’t it be great if each school could give every wrestler the max amount of dollars allowed by NCAA rules. I am not against KU or KSU having wrestling. I think it would be great. But how many people are going to make a commitment with money and attendance. These are some of the questions I have. I personally think we need to take care of what we have right now in the state. Because I think what we have in the state right now is pretty darn good. They just need some help.
