You think that because Staab hasn't had the competition that Seiler has had may be the reason that Staab didn't look as good Thursday? I am also not sure that Staab dominated the first 3 minutes. He did counter Seiler's shots well and had a single a couple of times which were countered well by Seiler, on their feet it seemed to be a pretty even match-up. Conditioning is almost as much a part of the sport as technique.

I have some things to say about Dukes, I also don't understand why everyone piles on him just because he looses he is only human just like the rest of us people have good days and people have bad and some people have luck and some don't, but if anyone saw him loose to Gentry then hopefully they will understand what I am talking about when I say it takes a real man and wrestler to lose a match and fight until the end, and way less of a man and wrester to sit on the score and hold on just so he can win at the end of the match and proves nothing but he has good grip and cheap skills...I am sure all of you out there would rather lose a match and know you faught to the end and gave it all you had than rather just pass by sitting on time. which is what happened at the match, But for the rest of the wrestlers on both sides good job, and good luck to all those going to nationals, Oh and Dukes losing 2 in a row might have been a good thing because now he will be hungry for a win.

So, are you trying to say that instead of Dukes laying on bottom begging the ref to call stalling with 20 seconds left he should have been kicking and crawling and fighting the hands to try to at least get 1? Also, it looked like Dukes was trying to sit on the time as well until he got reversed. He wasn't coming off the hips any more than Gentry did in the last 20 seconds. It was a good, hard fought match, the outcome of which could be different if they wrestled again. Stop trying to make excuses when someone loses. Maybe instead of giving up the reversal with 20 seconds left, Dukes should have just given Gentry the escape and work on his feet, which he was doing a pretty good job of.

I am not making excuses for anyone losing, Dukes did try to get away, but when he realized what Gentry was doing and going to continue to do why try? But I could see him trying to get out. I also know it was a good match and am not taking that from either one of them, but Gentry should have tried harder to keep the win instead of sitting in time, Thats just what I would have done so people don't get on the forum and talk about him like I am doing, but like is said i am not trying to take anything from him

what would you define as making an excuse? looks to me like you are, in fact, it's grossly obvious that you are. Why can't you just admit that Dukes lost fair and square. The only reason people say anything when Dukes loses is people like you.

on the matt dukes josh gentry match they are both excellent wrestlers i have watched both of them grow and get better. but to me riding a guy out for the last 20 seconds of the match is just good wrestling because why try an take a chance and put yourself in bad position and give up a cheap 2 points that way, any body that knows anything about wrestling knows that it is just as hard to ride a guy when your winning by a point with 20 seconds left than it is to get away when your down by a point with 20 seconds left. good job to both wrestlers you guys are both great.

I understand what you are saying but maby its just me but I rather wrestle the whole match hard, but then I have never been put in that situation and would probably try and do anything to hang on just for the win so who knows. But I do understand were you are coming from.

I have to agree with Shaun on this one, If you are ahead and there is only 20 seconds lift you should back off and keep in good position, not just try something stupid. I don't mean just sit on the hips and stall but at least try to keep good control.

static> that post u wrote made no sense. u would rather lose, and wrestle hard till the end, than win by hanging on?? that is just good wrestling. u don't try and pin someone when u are ahead by 1 point late in the match. and apparently dukes didn't try hard enough to get out. a win is a win no matter how u come by it

I get a kick out of people who think stalling is a vulgar ugly act. Anyone who says they would never stall has never been ahead by two points in a big match with a warning and a stall point to give away. Stalling has as much to do with winning in the NCAA tournament as takedowns do. Those guys are expert at it. It's the referee's job to call it and the wrestlers job to make up his mind if it is worth it by risk. A wrestler with the lead that loses because he is not smart enough to pull in his horns and be a little defensive isn't using all the tools at his disposal. Just like the intentional foul in basketball, the pass intereference to keep from giving up a touchdown, blocking in racing, it is a stategy that you use from time to time. If you haven't ever stalled a little you haven't really been in too many big matches with the lead.
