I have heard of many instances where a coach has not released a wrestler who has exchanged schools at the high school level. I can't fathom in my wildest dreams ever telling a kid (no matter how big a jerk or pain they are), that they are not going to get the chance to compete this year.
I have also seen parents from schools go to KSHAA wanting other kids to have to sit out a semester b/c they left their team. In a sport that seems to be dying at all levels, why would a person want to keep another individual from competing. I believe these people are low lives among the sport. Why take away the work of the people who have worked so hard to save wrestling.
I can understand this at the college level. I don't agree, but I can understand b/c money is involved at a higher level and if a wrestler bails out and leaves a coach without a wrestler at the last minute, then I could see his reason behind it. However, keeping someone from competing in the sport is wrong in my eyes, and as a coach now, if a wrestler ever wants a transfer release, I'll sign it without hesitation. If they don't want to be in my program, I am not going to force them to.
Am I wrong?
