I don't know much inregards to the lower weights but I'll take a stab at some of the uppers. Pretty easy to pick Tanner Gardner at 119.
119-Tanner Gardner
130-Matt Middleton
135-Zoukas (conventionaly wisdom) but if Vandenberg upsets in the second round take him the whole way throuh
140-Paul Oliphant/Darcy Riley
145-Seaman's Josh Miller-keep your eye on Eric Harris, he can be sporatic but strong
152-David Mullins--picking up speed!
160-Phil Hart/Nick Figge/Jimmy Stewart Tough bracket-inexperience may do in Stewart but keep an eye on him.
171-Nathan Payne-Will beat Sponsel if they meet in the finals buy Malloy could knock out Sponsel
189-Adam Monks-again, will beat Sponsel if they meet in the finals
215-Steve Cullor
275-toss up: Caleb Payne meets Jaccob Voegeli in the finals. Youth could catch up with Payne or light a fire under him. He's strong and can be quick. This one comes down to attitude.

Well, that's not all of them and maybe half will pan out for me. Just fun to speculate. Good luck to everyone!

103 - Deshazer (Wichita West)
112 - Edgemon (Goddard)
119 - Gardner (Tecumseh)
125 - Cornejo (Wichita West)
130 - Lewis (Ark City)
135 - Zouzas (Salina South)
140 - Swanson (McPherson)
145 - Loos (Bishop Carroll)
152 - Pietrzyk (Salina South)
160 - Hart (Tecumseh)
171 - Payne (Paola)
189 - Sponsel (Bishop Carroll)
215 - Cullor (Paola)
275 - Voegeli (Kaupan)

In my opinion the state championship can goto whoever wants it more and anyone can be beat at anytime, but these are my best guesses on who might win state. Good luck to all.

Cullor has to get by the Ark City kid to get to the finals that might be a tough chore for him.

Hart will dominate this bracket, and make Figge look silly if they wrestle. Payne beat Steinmetz in the finals last year, and at Basehor earlier this year, so I went with him.

I agree, Steinmetz always does wrestle better at state, his freshman year he pulled out two wins against seniors. He's gonna have a tough time getting to and winning the semi's this year, Malloy and Sponsel, and he's been injured. Then again you never know what can happen.

good point I just looked at his side of the bracket and whoever comes out in the finals is a stud but will have to be worn slick after those battles

The bottom half of the 171 bracket is tough! Any one of Sponsel, Malloy or Steinmetz could come out of there, but as you say, they could be pretty spent. Nathan Payne is a very determined individual. He was disappointed at a 4th place finish at state as a freshman and never wants that to happen again. It is very hard to bet against him, especially at the state tournament. I know he was not happy about his two losses this year, especially losing to Baylor two years in a row. Not to take anything away from any of the other 171's, but Nathan Payne is the real deal. Should be fun to watch, though!

Well it looks like the 171 was very strong on the bottom side of 5A. Hats off to Mike Steinmetz for
showing what determination,hard work,and staying
focused can do for you. Congrats, best of luck,
it should be a great championship match.

Great job by Mike Steinmetz! As I posted before it was a three way race on that bottom half of the bracket. Great perseverance by Steinmetz! I am still going with Nathan Payne for the championship, but I know it will be a terrific match. Congrats to both Payne and Steinmetz on incredible seasons (as well as Blake Malloy and John Sponsel). Good to have two "East side" guys in the finals! Good luck!
