Kansas Style huh? What in the world is that. We have coaches from all parts of the country working in the state of Kansas. We had a national champion last year in Zach Roberson and a runner up in Matt Murray, one of the two or three greatest coaches in the history of the United States (Myron Rodrick) was from Winfield Kansas, and we currently have the top ranked 133 pounder in the nation (Bunch, Leavenworth and Edinbourgh) as well as a lot of nationally ranked kids. We have had olympians and referee's who distinguished themselves nationally for years, what do you want? Kansas isn't a very big state but it has held its own over the years and continues to do that. Kansas referees do a good job and I know cause I yelled at them for 25 years and they are probably shocked to hear me say this but they call the rule book. They don't invent a new one to fit their reputation or enhance some "style" they want to make their own as Missouri refs do. Shawnee, Oklahoma took their kids home in the middle of a tourney that they were winning a few years back because of that "style". His comment as he walked out the door was "we don't need these guys, we are out of here". They were winning big when they left, they just thought the stall calls they were seeing were nullifying the intent of the rules and the game. We do the best we can just like all the states do and this has been underscored historically. We don't have to prove anything to anyone. We already have.

Gut-

I know these guys got better in college, but they were pretty darn good in high school too. Everyone gets better in college or doesn't survive as it is a different level.

It is amazing to me that you think that these two guys were cured of the "Kansas Style" by spending a year or two in the same room as a guy from Uzbekistan. They were good in kids, got better in Jr. High, then got better in high school, then got better in college. . . . That is what great wrestlers do regardless of "style."

Also, Eldon Zimbelman is here working as an official's evaluator, he has served in this role for two years. Eldon was a KWCA selection for Hall of Fame this year as well for his service to the sport of wrestling.

There are also numerous Kansas wrestlers here, and doing quite well.

Also working at the tournament were Mike Martinez and Mark Richards. These two were assisting with duties related to Mat 4.
