I would like to congratulate Tommy for finishing his outstanding career with a third state title (a first for a Goddard wrestler). It has been a true pleasure coaching him for the last six years. He is everything I would want a son of mine to be: a great wrestler, a hard worker, a selfless individual, and an all-around great kid.

This year has not been easy for him, but he did prevail, as expected. I'd say it has been fun watching him grow, but he has actually shrunk! He wrestled 127 in 7th grade!! We'll miss having him in the room, but can't wait to see what will happen in college.

He has been part of a senior class that has meant a ton to me. Although our state results were not what we wished for, they have been a group I will always reflect on as one of the best I've been around.

Coach Jilka

Congrats, and thanks for the forfeit at Regionals, I think that might have been the only thing getting us a medal. Who knows.

Tommy was unbelievably strong and quick at State. I am extremely in awe by the courage and toughness that he showed to do everything he did through the amount of pain he must have been dealing with. I wish Tommy the best as well as a speedy recovery on his knee.

Congratulations Tommy Edgmon for a wonderful career. As well, Coach Jilka for doing a great job with the talent you have brought in the program. Goddard is very fortunate to have the you both in the area representing them.

does anyone know how much Edgmon weighs about now because he looked pretty stacked when he was wrestling our 119(Ken Livengood) and noone made Kenny look so small all season like Edgmon did

right now I'm guessing somewhere around 128-132...I actually thought they had around similar builds but I was also up in the stands at the time...

Congratulations Coach Jilka to you and your wrestler.

This is an unfair question but, how do you think Tommy would have done vs. Jake Earle, a two time champ at that weight a few year ago?

Also, how does he rank in your mind vs. other Goddard past multi-time champions?

Tommy is a monster! It was awesome to see him set up his shot very patiently and then exploding. Not to take away from the other wrestlers, but I can't even imagine a healthy tommy in the finals.

Lion Fan 2: Now that I'm on my lunch break I'll try to reply. It is a fair question, but not one I can give a great answer to. I think Tommy vs. Jake would have been a tremendous match. We'll never know who the winner would be, but I bet they would split if they wrestled several matches. They both had strengths over the other.

As for where Tommy stands in Goddard history; he is somewhere near the top. Too many factors come into play to say that because he is the only three timer, he is the best. It's kind of like the argument as to which class is the best. It's all opinion. Bill Brine, the Liens, Jake, David Ray, the Means', and many others have been great. He definitely fits in there with that group. Sorry if I left any others out.

What I do know for sure is that Tommy is a great wrestler.

Jilka

Coach Jilka thank you for your "diplomatic" answers.

actually, they were the absolute correct answers as it is just fun to speculate and we are so proud of all our champions, past and present.

again, congratulations to you and Tommy. it has been a terrific experience watching him compete and he joins an elite group of Goddard wrestling graduates.

P.S. I think David Ray did not wrestle all his years at Goddard?

also ran into Bill Brine's relatives and posted an update on him on the "Wrestlers turned Warriors" topic - also on Chris Laird from that 1999 state championship team.

Looking forward to more Goddard champs in the coming year!!

I was certainly impressed with Tommy in the state tournament. I don't know him at all personally, but I think I can identify a young man with courage and determination when I see one. There are people writing here, who I do know and respect, re-enforcing my impression.
