Coach Nelson should be commended for his actions - both at the tournament and for the professional manner that he responded to his suspension. I am sure he has the respect of both the boys and girls on the high school wrestling programs that he coaches. I have no doubt that UIL officials believed that by creating a seperate wrestling program for high school girls and developing strict rules against co-ed wrestling, that any such incidents would be avoided. While this might be the case inside the Texas borders, the rules clearly need to be addressed for out-of-state competitions. Let's hope they do the right thing. Until/unless all states offer a high school wrestling program for girls, the National Federation rules permitting co-ed wrestling should apply in such instances.
