I saw that the finals of 189 at Emporia couldn't be wrestled because both wrestlers had met the 5 match limit for the day. I've seen that happen on backside of brackets, but how often does that occur on frontside of brackets in high school? I'd guess not to often as most the time if there are enough wrestlers, there would be a 2 day tournament or split brackets.

Aaron:

I just looked at that and I have a feeling that they listed 189 incorrectly. In all the other weights they had on top the 5th and 6th place match, the 3rd and 4th listed second with the championship match on the bottom. For some reason this listing order was reversed at 189. When I looked at the two wrestlers listed at the bottom in the 5th and 6th match, it seemed to me that they would be the two wrestlers that more likely would have been in the championship match. Maybe someone who was there can clarify that but I would bet it was the 5th and 6th place match that could not be wrestled due to the match limit.

WOW, you misread the bracket.

Alex Whitehill (McPherson) defeated T J Lorson (Seaman) in the finals 5-2. Whitehill wrestled three times Saturday.

Richard:

I think Aaron did not look at the brackets when he first viewed the results. I think he just looked at the listing of the placers which had Whitehill and Lorson in the 5th place match (see below original placer listing).

Weight: 189
no match both wrestlers had met 5 match limit ( Oeser Maize, Landry Topeka)
3rd Tim Durkin Eudora Dec Chris Bertucci Junction City, 6-4
5th Alex Whitehill McPherson Dec TJ Lorson Seaman, 5-2

I do not know the answer to this question and certainly I will not surmise where Sweazy looked.

When I go to the tourmament home page and click on the link for weights, the link for 189 lbs., and the link for place winners I find the following:

2005 Emporia Winter Wrestling Classic!

Winter Wrestling Classic
Place Winners: 189

Place Wrestler Year School Record
1st Alex Whitehill 11 McPherson 7- 0
2nd TJ Lorson 10 Seaman 9- 2
3rd Tim Durkin 11 Eudora 16- 2
4th Chris Bertucci 12 Junction City 16- 2
5th Forfeit 12 16- 2
6th Forfeit 12 16- 2

When I click on the link for results I can not find what you have stated. I do find the following:

Standard:
Finals

Winner School How Opponent School Result
Tim Durkin Eudora Dec Chris Bertucci, (12) Junction City 6-4
Alex Whitehill McPherson Dec TJ Lorson, (10) Seaman 5-2

or
AP Style
Weight: 189
Tim Durkin Eudora Dec Chris Bertucci Junction City, 6-4
Alex Whitehill McPherson Dec TJ Lorson Seaman, 5-2

Have you added the following as it IS NOT on the results page?

"no match both wrestlers had met 5 match limit ( Oeser Maize, Landry Topeka)",
the "3rd" in front of Tim Durkin,
and the "5th" in front of Alex Whitehill.

As best as I can determine the only way to know if an individual reached the five bout limit is to go to the bracket and count the number of matches wrestled.

In closing I will add the software lists the results in the order of bout number wrestled.
In the 189 lb. bracket the 5th place bout was number 410, the consolation final bout was 411, and the championship final was 412. Hence the fifth place bout is listed first, etc.

Richard:

On Cosmo's site they have changed the listing since earlier this morning. First thing this morning when you clicked on the link for the Dec 17 tournaments and then clicked on the Emporia tournament (just on the Emporia part not the bracket part), you got the listing that I reported in my prior post. At that time it listed the Alex Whitehill and TJ Lorson match as the 5th place match. In my prior post, I just copied it and pasted it from Cosmo's site exactly that way and I did not alter it all. I am not quite that clever or devious. I was just trying to defend Aaron a little, but even I have my limits. After reading your last post I checked again and since this morning it has been changed to the correct listing of that Whitehill-Lorson match as the championship match on Cosmo's website. So all is well again. Good day.

It's really funny to read Mr. Salyer response when he stated "I do not know the answer to this question and certainly I will not surmise where Sweazy looked." yet he did just that in his first post when he assumed Aaron misread the bracket information without any consideration that he could be looking at the incorrect championship information from the Cosmo website.
