I believe Nate Blevins won a state title his senior year: I may be wrong, though.

You are right: Nate Blevins is a 2x runner-up.

I'll never forget how he reacted at kids state in 1998 after he got beat out....it was a sight to see. Not trying to take anything away from his achievements: it was just astonishing, yet extremely funny. It made me feel better about getting beat out, too.

Here is my attempt at a Norton Line-up. In some weights there were too many deserving wrestlers, so I listed more than one. This is a pretty salty group from top to bottom. I left out many 1x champs and multiple placers, just due to room and the time! I also have each wrestler at a weight class they WON at least one state title, but it may not be their senior year.

One interesting note is Kurt Hahn who I have listed at 145. He was a champ at 112, then the next year won it at 145. That is a huge jump, does anyone know of a larger jump for a wrestler to make and still win state in consecutive years?

103- Roger Fisher: 3 x champ 95 in ’68 & ’69, 98 in ’70
103- Brent Brandyberry: 2 x champ 103 in ’97 & ’98, 4th 103 in ‘96
103- David Newell: Champ 98 in ’75, Grand State Champ in ’75, 4th at 112 in ‘76
112- Clay Madden: 3 x champ 103 in ’03, 112 in ’04 and ‘05
112- J.B. Harding: 2 x champ 103 in ’99, 112 in ’00, 2nd 119 in ‘01
119- Tom Ankeman: 3x champ 103 ’68. 115 ’70, 119’ 71 3rd at 112 in ‘69
119- Kyle Hahn: 2x Champ: 119 in ’79 & 80 , 2nd 105 ‘78
119- Matt Jensen: 2 x champ 119 in ’91 & ’92, 3rd 112 in ‘90
125- Kent Hahn: 2x Champ: 126 in ’82, 132 in ’83, 4th 105 in ‘81
130- James Annon: 2 x champ: 125 in ’03, 130 in ’04 (placed in ’02)
130- Kendall Hahn: 1 x Champ: 130 in ’90, 2nd 126 in ’88, 3rd 130 in ’89 (beat previously unbeaten Dong at Regionals and State in ’90. I still remember listening to that on the radio- I was a youngster stuck home with the flu!)
135- Evan Whitney: 2x Champ 138 in “74 & ‘75
135- Kevin Washburn: 2nd at 138 in ’75 GRAND STATE CHAMP (not sure this is correct)
140- Eric Johnson: 2x champ 130 in ’01, 140 in ’02, 3rd 145 in ‘03
145- Quentin Horning: 3x champ 138 in ‘67& ’68, 145 in ’69 2nd at 120 in ‘66
145- Kurt Hahn: 2x Champ: 112 in ’80, 145 in ’81, 3rd 98 in ‘79
152- Richard Wyatt: 1x Champ: 154 in ’62, 2nd 154 in ‘61
152- Alvin Bird: 1 x Champ: 154 in ’59, 3rd 141 in ‘58
160- Don Strevey: 1x Champ 165 in ’49, 2nd 165 in ‘48
171- Curtis Brown: 2 x champ 171 in ’97 & ‘98
189- Jeff Boyle: 3 x champ: 189 in ’95, 215 in ’96, 275 in ‘97
215- Josh Kellerman: 1 x champ in ’97, 5th 189 in ‘96

Coach Twink,

You took on quite a job wading through 70 years of Norton Wrestling history. Can't dispute any that you included, but would also offer up J.D. Hand for consideration at 145; multiple state placer and 1x champ at 145.

Quentin Horning, was however, the stud of studs.

If I remember correctly, Jon Dong had beaten Kendall Hahn at state in '89 for the championship and Kendall returned the favor in '90. Kendall also beat Dong in a GREAT match in the Pburg Panther Classic in '90.

Kent, Kyle and Kendall Hahn are all brothers and their uncle is Richard Wyatt. Richard's son Shane was a state champ at 185 in the early 80's. Evan Whitney, on your list at 135 is a cousin to the Wyatts and Hahns.

Good job!

See you Friday night in Norton.

Egg,

I definitely can't take all the credit- fortunately the wrestling scrap book Coach Johnson puts together each year helped alot. I had all State placings since '97 at my disposal.

Can't wait to get there!
