You guys are correct, the officials would like nothing better than to NOT have to do skin checks, however it is their responsibility, and like you said, if they see a spot that looks like a skin condition they question it. I have seen kids cover the spots with gauze and tape, use sand paper ect. We do get second opinion and seek out professional help if it is available. However, it is the coaches responsibility to have a doctor's form properly signed and dated when the wrestler can return to competition. Without the form and without profession opinion, the wrestler with the questionable skin condition must not be allowed to wrestle especially this time of year coming into post season.

In a situation like that, a clearance by a doctor would have entailed an emergency room visit for clearance, most likely. The decision was monetary, and it seems to me that if the coach is upfront with an official as soon as he walks into the building, explained the situation, it should be able to be rectified on the spot. I feel that most officials would understand perfectly well what should be done in that situation. Having said that, coaches that lack integrity in the mind of the official most likely take that possibility away from the rest of us. I would still like to believe that if I were to walk up to an official that we see regularly with the kid in tow and explain the burn, we would be good to go. Although an official has to know the rules, a good official understands intent as well.
