I think other coaches vote on the award winners.

Each year, all of the KWCA member coaches vote for the Coach of the Year and Senior Wrestler of the Year for each classification. Once a coach wins the award, he becomes ineligible to win for the following two years.

Officials have a coach of the year as well...which made me wonder, has a coach ever won the Official's award and the KWCA award for Coach of the year in the same year?

I don't recall if it was the exact same year or not, but I believe Kirk Baker in Hoxie won them both within a couple of years anyway. 1997 or 1998 maybe?

After-thought:

I remember I was in Wichita that year and they annouced before the finals there that he had won the 321a referee's coach of the year. It was also the year that after day 1 of the tourney many people had written Hoxie off as having a chance to come back and win it after losing some tough early round matches. They did come back and win it through the backdoor though... and I believe the coaches voted him in as well.

The Travis Baker, Peter Koster, Kyle Lewis, Derek Jones "era" I believe.

I don't know where you could look it up though.

Silly Question! Heck yes I would support it! How could you not be excited as a coach to have wrestlers who already knew the basics about wrestling before they are freshman!

Some coaches just don't understand this frustration. The GWAL (City League) is killing us in the fact that the only middle school sports are Basketball, Track, and volleyball! No wonder 50% of our kids show up to school wearing all black clothes, pierced on every part of their body, wearing black make-up and finger nail polish and professing their favorite topic to be death. I wish somebody could get the ball rolling and get these kids involved earlier so we don't lose them to that "Gothic" world!

This is not only in my school either!

My point is made then.

It is getting harder and harder to get kids, and especially parents, to make the commitment that wrestling requires. For a HS coach to take all of the kids' and parents' commitment for granted is BS.

Thanks, and see ya at Topeka
