Shawnee man killed in wrong-way crash
The Kansas City Star
A 21-year-old Shawnee man died after a head-on collision with a car going the wrong way on an exit ramp from Interstate 435 in Edwardsville.

The man was identified as Spencer Buck, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. He was riding a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle and was wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday on the ramp from northbound I-435 to Woodend Avenue, the highway patrol said. Buck was exiting from I-435 to Woodend when he struck a 2004 Nissan sedan driven by Delores Jones, 64, of Kansas City, the crash report said.

The highway patrol said Jones was driving the wrong direction — northbound in the southbound lanes — of the exit ramp.

Jones might have been injured, but refused treatment.

This is indeed sad news ....... news that spread quickly through our Turner wrestling community, including parents, coaches and wrestlers ...... our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends ........ Spencer was a good guy ...... Matt related a story about how Spencer hooked him up with some free movie passes once when they just happened to cross paths outside a theatre ....... Spencer was also a tough wrestler, who always seemed to draw one of our toughest guys ...... If memory serves me correctly, he battled against Josh Flamez, Caleb Hulse, and Matt Bailes, all state medalists ....... it was good to see him become a state medalist as well ....... this kind of thing hits your heart like a dull thud ...... Turner and Bonner wrestlers and coaches have always had an intense but very friendly rivalry ....... we support each other when we're not facing one another ...... Spencer was a part of this ....... may God bless you, Spencer ...... and look in on us from time to time.

We happened to be in the Metro this week and saw the reports of Spencer's death on the news. Life isn't fair, is it?

Also wanted to extend my condolesences to the Buck Family on this very difficult time for them. Spencer was a fine, young man with intense wrestling skills. My youngest son wrestled Spencer several times, mostly on the losing side, but had great respect and admiration for his talent and sportsmanship. I witnessed Spencer' admiration and pride in being "the older brother" and carried the Buck name with pride and dignity. Our fondest memories and prayers are extended to the Buck Family and take comfort in knowing that Spencer is at peace in heaven.
