I'm not sure what to think of all that, honestly.

what happen to the wrestling forum.

As a coach, I would have to worry about the burn out factor and the complete rebellion that may come at the age of 18. Yes great for the parent to be involved but does give the reason to have closed workouts.

I would like to hear about what dad was doing when he was a sophomore in high school.

Ghez man. . . I got a brand new Monster Dell with a cable modem and i can't get that clip to play right. It keeps stopping every 20-30 seconds. Can anybody help me with possibly tweaking my settings or something? I'll re-boot and then try again. UGH. . .

OK, i have answered my own question above. I rebooted and then i viewed the thing with no problems.

It made me sad. That poor kid. That control freak of a dad. UH, dad, maybe junior doesn't want to be a soldier when he grows up. . . As someone stated above - "BURN OUT".

Poor kid. . . I'll say a prayer for him tonight. And one for his dad also. Get your own life 'dad'. Let the boy BE a boy. Let him chose his own career. . . Give him a hug. Love him unconditionally. Respect him as an INDIVIDUAL.

My thought on it is that I cannot improve on what you said in what I just quoted you on. Excellent advice for all sports dads. You are correct on all of that. It is difficult at times to let go of the influence that we are giving to them in their sports careers but we have to. My son just completed his freshman year and I let him make his own decisions on whether he wanted to wrestle Kids last year and freestyle/Greco after that. He chose not to participate in either. I felt he was making a mistake for his wrestling potential in high school, but I really believe that he has to make his own way in where he goes with wrestling and in his major life decisions like his career choices.

I enjoyed the TV series Everwood and one of the last things I remember Treat Williams "Dr. Brown" in the show saying when he was describing what he was learning about being a father and his children was that he has learned that what he likes best about his two children were those things about them that he as a dad had nothing to do with. Another good thought along with your quote for me as a dad to think about and live by.

The young man in this video is Pat McCaffrey.

He was an Illinois State champion as a freshman in 2004, and in 2005 he transfered to Centerville, Iowa to work out with four-time State champion TJ Sebolt. He won the State championship in 2A in Iowa at 112 (beat one of my kids in the semifinals) then quit school there right after the state tournament to move to Pennsylvania to train with someone else.

The Pennsylvania and Maryland high school athletic associations both ruled last fall that he was ineligble to compete there so he moved back to Illinois to live with his family again. Last I heard, he was in Colorado, training for the Jr. Worlds. Insofar as I know, he is done with high school wrestling.

We had all heard things about his father while he was here, but this was both disturbing and sad. From where I sit, Pat is not liking life very much, and his father really doesn't care. What's even sadder was that up here, Iowans treated him like a carpetbagger at the State tournament. After seeing this, I feel badly for the kid. I really do.

Actually, to clarify....following the 2004 season, McCaffrey transfered to Centerville and was State champ in 2005. Watching this thing, it appears that it was actually filmed during that season. For one thing, the kid he's wrestling appears to be TJ Sebolt
