Entry deadline has closed...I know they were leaving the door open for any nationally ranked studs to enter, so we may still see a few more names slip in somewhere.
103 pound weight class I just counted has 112 total wrestlers entered (92 of them didn't place at state). Of the 20 that placed in their respective state tournaments, 14 of the 20 finished in the Top 3, including Kansas own Zach Peters of Augusta who finished 3rd in the 4a tournament in 2006.
112 is just sick with 98 total wrestlers and 24 of those finishing top 3 in their state tournaments including 9 State Champs! (Nathan Furches from Derby is one of the 9)
130 might have the most variety of states involved including the likes of NH, NY, IL, and of course KS own Aldon Isenberg who finished 4th in the 5a tournament this past season. 6 state champs representing 5 different states highlight this weight class that features a total of 96 wrestlers.
65 wrestlers are entered in the 171 weight class (if they all show up wonder who the lucky guys to get a pigtail will be). Oh did I mention 9 State Champions with 3 coming from Georgia, and one each from Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Delaware and Oklahoma. Look for Aaron Berscheidt (state runner up in 5a for Gardner-Edgerton) to be a tough cookie in this weight as well.
Ok...so 215 only has 28 guys entered, and 3 state champs, but many guys could really make a name for themselves and finish high on the podium. The expected finals by many "experts" would be Cody Gardner (#1 national recruit according to many websites) against Trevor Collins of Nixa, Missouri.
Look for Derby Senior Eric Horton along with many other big men to really try to make a name for themselves and catch a recruiter's eye in the Super32 competition.
Finally...
IN the 103 middle school division, look for Ryne Cokely to challenge for top honors amongst 30 total wrestlers representing 13 different states. (NOTE: Middle school division is 6th-8th grade, and some middle schoolers have chosen to wrestle in the OPEN division where they give Championship Belts to the Winner)
