WRESTLING SCHOLARSHIP STATISTICS & INFORMATION.

"Not all athletic scholarships are full ride scholarships like football and basketball, so called "head count sports"; most are classed as "equivalency sports', like college wrestling .Put simply this means that coaches can "share" their allocation between a larger number of wrestlers.

This is good news for the athletes. In division 1 a coach can divide "9.9" scholarships between a larger number of Wrestlers. Say 25 partial scholarships instead of 9 full ride scholarships. If you are good enough of course then a full ride scholarship is always on the cards.

There are 85 division 1 and 38 division 2 colleges that offer wrestling scholarships.

That's a total of 1,183.5 wrestling scholarships available in the NCAA alone.

The Midwest dominates college wrestling, with schools such as Iowa, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Nebraska almost always claiming the top positions in collegiate rankings. Wrestling is a sport taught from an early age and supported by entire communities. Midwestern schools maintain strong programs because they can recruit from the best high school programs located in their own states

The NCAA allows each division 1 wrestling program 9.9 scholarships and in division 2, 9 scholarships are available."
