I heard yesterday that instead of red shirting Joe they are moving him up to the likely starting spot due to an injury on the team at his weight. Good luck to Joe, keep working hard and know that we are pulling for you and all of the other Kansas wrestlers this year.

WE DON'T KNOW IF JOSEPH WILL BE RED SHIRTING OR NOT ,HIS COACH IS UNDECIDED. JOSEPH IS NOT PLANNING ON IT! HIS WRESTLE-OFF IS NOV. 2 @ 6:05 P.M. AND HE IS PLANNING ON BEATING GRIMES FOR THE 149 LB. STARTING SPOT. THIS KID IS RANKED 12TH PRESEASON AND IS NOT HURT. WE WILL BE THERE TO WATCH AND SUPPORT HIM. WE WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW HE DOES. MAMA CORNEJO & DAD CORNEJO

The night before the wrestle off they had a mini-tournament. Top 3 @ 149lbs were Cornejo, Grimes, Knull.

Cornejo vs. Grimes Cornejo wins 4-2
Cornejo vs. Knull Knull wins 4-2
Cornejo vs. Grimes Grimes wins 2-1

Knull's win and Grimes win over Cornejo puts them in the first wrestle off. 2nd wrestle off to be Cornejo vs. loser of first wrestle off.

The wrestle off started with Grimes vs. Knull with Grimes winning. Knull goes to sit by the wall holding his knee and Grimes goes to the locker room to get changed. The assistant coach mid-way through the wrestle offs tells Joseph he won't have a match due to Knull's injured knee.

We loved seeing Joseph. We sure would have enjoyed watching him wrestle.

Mama Cornejo,

I heard that Joe might redshirt this year, but depending on the severity of Knull's injury and seeing that Joe and Grimes went 1-1 against each other, will they go for a 3rd and decisive match to determine the winner of the starting spot?

We did talk to the head coach and more than likely Joseph will be red shirted. Explaintion being Grimes is the returning 149 and was an ALMOST ALL-AMERICAN last yr.
