Fila Cadet National started today with Greco-Roman. Tanner Gardner I believe in the only Kansas kid wrestling in Greco and is in the finals at 110. On his way there he defeated Gabreil Mooney from Minnesto who was a double champ at Fargo last year at junior 98. I know there is about 10 more kids from Kansas wrestling in freestyle.

Lebowski, Congradulations on Tanners impressive feat. He is having quite the year!!
I was wondering what other kids from Kansas will be wrestling freestyle and how big the brackets are? What was the average size of the Greco brackets?

I am not sure who all from Kansas is wrestling freestyle, but I will try to find out. Filas brackets are usually smaller than Fargo, but the competition level is just as high. I know Tanner's bracket in Greco was 16 men, but last years double champ at Fargo 98lbs was wrestling for 5-6 if that tells you anything about the quality of kids there.

Also, at the university level, I know that Shawan Bunch, Zach Roberson, and Chris McCormick will be wrestling freestyle. Roberson and Bunch will be in the same weight class I think. Wouldn't that be a hell of a match.

I just received an email from Bob Gonzales (Tanner's high school coach). Here is his message:
Quote:
Hi Mike this is Coach Gonzales. Tanner Gardner just called from Chicago, Illinois. He placed first at FILA Cadet National Championship 50 kg (110#).

This morning Tanner beat Paul Donahoe of Davidson, Michigan (6-5) and last night he beat Gabriel Mooney of Greenbush-Middle River, Minnesota, (3-2).

Tanner finished Greco-Roman competition 5-0 and qualified for the World Cadet Championship in Bulgaria, July 1-9,2002. Tanner is wrestling for East Kansas Wrestling Club this spring and Kevin Klemm told me that he had a number of runner-ups over the years but never a FILA national champion. Happy for Tanner and Coach Kevin. Tanner weighs in at noon today for freestyle and the tournament starts at 6pm this evening, later Coach Gonzales
Congratulations, Tanner!!

In Fila Cadet Freestyle, Tanner Gardner is in the finals. He wrestled Paul Donahoe who he beat in the finals of greco first and beat him 8-6 in OT. He teched at kid from Arizona 10-0 in the second match. In the semi-finals he won 7-3 over a kid from West Virginia. He wrestles Cesar Grajales in the finals tommorow at 9AM. As for some of the other Kansans, I heard that Nathan Payne and Adam Monks were still in the tournaments and each had to win one or two more matches to place.
