Freestyle & Greco Roman
Rules and Strategy Clinic


Wrestlers, Coaches, Officials

The Kansas City and the Slammer Wrestling Clubs will sponsor a “Freestyle / Greco New Rules and Strategy Clinic” on 6th April, at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School.

USAW has adopted the new FILA rules for Freestyle and Greco for 2006 wrestling. The focus of this clinic will be on the new rules, wrestling and coaching strategies for the new rules, and technique used to score with the new rules.

Who: Wrestlers, coaches, officials

What: Freestyle / Greco Rules and Strategy Clinic

Where: Saint Thomas Aquinas
115th & Pflumm
Overland Park, KS 66210

When: Date and Time: 6 April (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)

Why:
- Promote the other styles of wrestling and encourage kids to sign up for spring / summer wrestling.
- Get ready for this season by learning and understanding the new rules.

Cost: Free

Clinicians and Schedule:

6:30 to 7:05
• Mark Anderson – Mr. Anderson has officiated under the new FILA rules at numerous national events to include the 2005 Armed Forces Championships and the 2005 US Open. Mark will cover:
o Freestyle / Greco Overview
o Basic rules and etiquette
o Summary new rules
7:05 to 7:15 – Break
7:15 to 8:30
• Erik Akin, Gonz Medina, Travis Phippen – Years of experience in multiple styles of wrestling at the international, national, and collegiate levels. This group of coaches will discuss strategy and demonstrate technique focused on the new rules. Wrestlers bring you gear, we will be working on the mat.

All wrestlers must present their USA wrestling card at the door. If you do not have your 2006 USAW card, we will sign you up. Cost is $30.

Trying to get a rough head count of who will be coming.

Club / Group leaders could you provide an estimate.

Slammer Wrestling Club will bring about 20 (wrestlers & coaches).

Hopefully,

We will get 20 or more from STA. The rules have changed quite a bit so I would encourage the experienced kids and the first timers to all go to this FREE CLINIC.

Is the time on this topic correct; 6:60 - 8:30? I thought I heard the announcment tonight at St. James as 5:30- 7:30. Please confirm which is correct. Thanks!

You too Mike! It was a GREAT clinic! A lot of kids (coaches and dads too) got some great updates to rules and techniques! There were some great questions as well. Good to see so many people there, and to see everyone after Garret's lay-off. And it was nice to meet you finally.
