Checking the daily scandel sheet, sorry that was another TOHK thread. I did want to say thanks for a great tournament to the Pittsburg crew and all that helped. Late start because of scratches but this was one of the best tournaments we've been to this year. Lots of good seating, crowd control could have been a little better but for many this was the last tournament of the year. They can have my vote for hosting next year. MY score they have to be 2 for 2. Dan

I congratulate Pittsburg too. We had 640 entrants and a few scratches but were done by about 5 pm. I wonder if having everybody from 10 years old and up on full size mats will spoil them.

Thank you Mr. Noblet for the compliments. On behalf of the Pittsburg Wrestling Club we would like to thank all of the teams who helped with the Sub-District tournament including, Columbus, Parsons, Altamont, S.E.K., Burlington and all clubs in attendance. We would also like to give many thanks to Mr. Gene Dill who assisted with the gentleman who apparently suffered a heart attack outside of the gym. People such as you Mr. Dill are what makes this world go around. As always you have scratches and have to rebracket alot of times, but we appreciate all your patience and hope that everyone enjoyed their time in Pittsburg. Thank you for another successful tournament. Good Luck to all of you at Districts!

I also want to thank the individuals and clubs responsible for the Pittsburgh tournament this weekend. Thank you for your hard work. You did a great job. The facility is sure great for the tournament. All those big mats are tremendous for the young wrestlers. All the qualifying tournaments and the State tournament should have mats that size for the young wrestlers. Randy, don't you think we should be spoiling these young warriors who have made it this far in our qualifying tournament series?

It did seem like there were a lot of scratches though. What do you think the reason was? My son had a full 8 wrestler bracket that ended up a round robin of 4. That is just a case of a bracket that had to be reworked or you might have had a non-seeded wrestler getting byes all the way to the final. How many total scratches were there? Did Spring Break for the kids have anything to do with the scratches?

I think that most of the scratches where just do to not making weight ... it is common at sub district ... all year long a lot of clubs give a half pound to a pound just so they dont have to re-do brackets ... then when it comes to state they cant give any weight AT ALL... I worked 10 and under at pittsburg just in that division I had 27 Scratches... other wise I think everything went well .. the big mats sure helped, it was nice to see a kid get a shot in and be able to drive them a few steps and actually get the points instead of a out of bounds call... We are Luckey to have a place like Pitt State that is big enough to provide full mats and still have room to seat everyone ... thanks to everyone who help and attened our sub disrict....

Well run tournament. The only complaint I have is that we were there at 7:15 for weigh-in and did not have our first match until @ 12:30, which is a very long time for an 8 year old to sit around. Besides that, it was one of the best run tournaments we were at all year.

Was that due to a first round bye that your child didnt wrestle till that late. I know some of those 8 and under brackets down there such as 49 had 19 which in other words ment alot of byes for brackets so they had to wait till the second round before wrestling.

Great Tournament Pitt.

Yes, we had a 32 man bracket but ended up with only 16 in the bracket because 2 scratched. There was only one match in the first round. I'm not sure the problem could have been avoided.

I think the facilities at Pitt State are tremendous. But I don't know if the Pittsburg club will bid again. The primary reason for this ... is a lack of profit!

These nice buildings don't come free and when you include the fact that they make NOTHING off of concessions (PSU has a contract with the Marriott). Then after they have a profit, you have to pay a few hundred dollars in vandalism, they don't make much!

But, it was a GREAT event in a great facility.

Good job to the Pittsburgh folks! Well run tournament in my opinion. As far as making a profit goes- a couple of things I would suggest- 1)Charge an entry fee! I paid $0 to get in, but I saw someone trying to set up to charge a $2.00 fee after most everyone was already there. What's up with that?
2) Let people know what you have at the concessions. i.e. This was the FIRST tourney we'd been to with healthy salads to offer. What a change from the nachos, hot dogs and pizza. I left to go buy a lunch not realizing what was available!
Just a couple of thoughts on helping to make $ if you want to. It was a great tournament overall!
:p

That is unfortunate about the profit situation for Pittsburg. I would suggest as an alternate site the Johnson County Girls Athletic Association Building where they hold the Johnson County Kids Classic in January. That is also a great facility and we always have full mats at the Johnson County Classic tournament. You do get spoiled by them. I'm not sure about the availability of it at that time of year or what club or clubs could host it but it would be nice to keep up the practice of utilizing full mats at District 1 South Subs in the future.

Richard,

You have uncovered what our true motive was with all this bragging--TO REOPEN THE DISTRICT 1 REALIGNMENT DISCUSSION.

Not really, I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon. Seriously, I don't blame you for being a little envious. It is nice to have those full mats for as many age divisions as possible. I really do wish that every Sub and District and especially our State tournament could have those full mats for everyone. I wish I was smart enough to know how to make it happen.

Vince, The arena where the Johnson County Classic is held is a super facility. But whomever thought that the restrooms there were adequate, was sadly mistaken.

Personally, I think Andover did a great job with the Dist II North subs. I don't want to see it moved anywhere wlse. Plus, if any District is going to be realigned, I think Dist. II North is overloaded with great wrestlers. Maybe the realignment should be to shrink Dist II North a little. JMHO.

Randy, I agree with you the rest room situation could be better at that facility.

i agree johnson counties facility is great,
as far as floor and mat space. but they
couldn't seat nearly as many people, rest
rooms are a joke, and the concession stand
couldn't keep up. if you could bring in
taller sets of bleachers, and more
porta-potties, it would be great. the only
place i've been, other than p-burg, big enough
to host subs.
