It appears that my wish for Bill Callahan to recruit Steven Foster to the Husker backfield has been foiled. This commitment announcement was printed in the Kansas City Star this morning Saturday, 10-7-07:

"COMMITMENT: Sedgwick (Kan.) High School standout Steven Foster made an oral commitment Friday to the Jayhawks. A 6-foot-3, 235-pound fullback, Foster selected KU over schools such as TCU, Air Force, Colorado State and Tulsa. According to Rivals.com, Foster has posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Sedgwick. Last week he ran for 355 yards and five touchdowns."

Steven, the Huskers also have a wrestling team. You could have pursued both sports in Lincon. Just kidding, congratulations and good luck at KU in your college football career.

Jayden Bird from Andover Central is a beast! He ran all over us last night as a running back and linebacker. He is looking huge. Atticus Disney is also good. I did think he was gonna be a little bigger, but I don't think he's put on to much weight since last year. That leaves a question, what weight are Atticus and Jayden going?

Curtis - The program passed out at the game had Atticus weight at 216. This was what he weighed right after Fargo. He weighted about 240 for the game Friday night. Atticus will be heavyweight this year. I don't know about Jayden.

That's exactly what I was questioning. I knew he didn't look way bigger than he did last year, but I thought he had maybe put on some weight.

I remember the first time Randy Hinderliter saw Jayden Bird wrestle this year was at Kid's State...we were standing on the other side of the venue by the the announcers table, and Jayden was one of the last kids to wrestle, and Randy basically wanted to know who that beast of a kid was. 4th in 4a behind 3 super stud seniors...did pretty darn well at Kid's state.

I would like to add a two more wrestlers from Chapman who are making some noise on the football field. Granted, Jon Arveson and Will Irvine are two of the top football players in this area (and amazing to watch) but I would like to mention Cody Provance and Noel Richardson. Cody does a great job running the ball whenever he is needed and Noel is a BEAST on defense and one of the top tacklers on the Chapman team. And the most wonderful thing is....Noel is just a sophomore.

Should be a fun to see them play Circle tonight...seems like I should know someone from there. Oh Coach Bottorff, let me wrestle with Circle when I was a freshman and Sophomore in college, and really got my competitive nature back to go on to wrestle at UCO!

What are some of the stats for John and Will? They have been great.

Ryan Carlson is playing football for Hiawatha and your right Hiawatha is not a good team but he has been a starter both ways and the next two years Hiawatha will have a better team.

I don't know what Jon and Will's individual stats are but they have to be pretty high. Jon was voted Player of the Week in the Junction City paper and there was quite a nice article about his +230 yards in the Clay Center/Chapman football game. If I had to guess, I would say that both of them are averaging at least 100 yards a game.

Wasn't it fun last Friday night at the Chapman/Circle game? I was so hoarse, I could hardly yell at my daughters volleyball tournament today.

Great game and boy Jess and Cody had a heck of a night as did Jon and Will and it looked as if they were just cruising. Will scoring on the 65 yard scamper at the beggining was awesome when he blew by several guys and stiffed armed one would be tackler straight to his back.

Didn't realize until I read in the paper, but Chapman recovered 4 Circle Fumbles and Intercepted them 4 times as well! Credit to Circle it could have been a lot worse.

yeah....and the best thing, two of those interceptions were made by Skip, a sophomore. In fact, there were several sophomores that night who were making some noise.

Let us not forget to mention some former wrestlers who are now making noise in college football, one in particular is just a pleasant shock.

The NJCAA is tough for football with many DI capable studs having to go that route academically, many of which come to one of the premier conferences in the Kansas Jayhawk (KJCCC). Normally the big time named guys that are racking up amazing stats are guys that are from Florida and are 6'4 240lb running back behemoths, but this year something has gotten a little smaller and faster and is making me smile:

Tailback Jovanni Franklin from Atchison, Kansas (4th at 140 4a last year) was recognized as the offensive player of the week for the KJCCC on October 7, 2006. Franklin had his third 100 yard plus rushing game in only his third game to start and participate this season. Franklin now has 420 yards on 70 carry's in three games for a 140 yard average (6.0 yards per carry) along with scoring 5 touchdowns.

Following that performance, Jovanni mad KJCCC offensive player of the week again against my alma mater Butler where Franklin had his fourth 100 yard plus rushing game in his fourth start as a true freshman. His totals for the year is 595 yards rushing on 105 carry's in four games for a 148 yard average (5.66 yards per carry), scoring 6 touchdowns. Before the Butler game, Butler had the fifth best rushing defense in the country, and the best in the conference only allowing 53 yards rushing per game!!!

Great job on the year by the 5'4 165lb Jovanni Franklin.
