Certification can take place any time prior to Jan. 12 so long as (1) the wrestler is hydrated prior to weiging in; and (2) the weigh-in is part of an official competition date. Certification weigh-in does NOT have to be with another team; it can be done at a home site competition weigh-in.
If a wrestler does not certify on or before Jan. 12 they are not allowed to take part in any further interscholastic competition for the reaminder of the season. This will "force" wrestlers who cannot hydrate at a lower weight to "bump up" to a higher weight where they can be hydrated. There is no KSHSAA stipulation or limitation on the number of times a wrestler can be tested for hydration prior to passing and getting a certified weigh-in.
