The 12th is the first weekend before the NFHS certification date of January 15. However, the original recommendation was to (A) allow certification at ANY TIME after the start of practice and on/or before Janaury 12th, and (B) the certification hydration and weigh-in would NOT have to be done as part of a competition weigh-in. The KSHSAA executive committee did not accept this portion of the proposal and changed it so that certifcation had to occur at a competition weigh-in. When they did this January 12 became a problem.
Your concern was forwarded to Mr. Bowden at the KSHSAA and he responded that several schools have queried him about this due to their having no competition on the 12th, but on the 13th. He is giving the matter consideration.
