In the midst of my e-mail discussion with Mike Furches and Eric Johnson about the Rocky Balboa, I suggested to them that I would have liked to have seen Stallone taken this movie in the direction where instead of him boxing that instead he became a trainer of young boxing champions helping them grow both as men and boxers under his guidance. I compared it to what Dan Gable did in his two epic careers as a wrestler and college wrestling coach. Anyway after that I came up with this idea for a movie and Mike suggested that I start a topic on it. I think Eric liked my idea for the movie too.
Here is the movie idea I came up with:
For all I know there has a movie made on him but in the midst of the Rocky Balboa topic and discussions I thought it would be neat to see a good movie on Dan Gable and maybe even tied into Cael Sanderson's college wrestling career.
What I was envisioning was Gable about to watch Sanderson’s last match as a collegiate wrestler in the NCAA finals either actually there at the tourament or from his house by television coverage. He would be hearing the announcers talking about how no one had won four NCAA titles in a row and had completed their career undefeated in college. The announcers would then say how one wrestler Dan Gable had almost accomplished the feat but was defeated in his very last match as a collegiate. At that point Gable would start flashing back to his collegiate career or maybe to his last match. I like these movies that flashback to a previous time period. It would show the build up to the match by the media and how Gable lost focus because of it and ended up losing the match. It would show how devasted he was over the defeat and how he dedicated himself after that to redeeming himself at the Olympics. It would show all the hard work and training he did and of course his epic march to Olympic gold in the following Olympics. At this point I don’t know if it would also go into his epic coaching career at Iowa or not. I was thinking though that it would end with him coming back to the end of Sanderson’s last match and listening to him being interviewed where Cael was being very humble and crediting so many people and especially his family for his success, basically giving credit to everyone but himself. I can envision a Gable at that point listening to Cael with pride and emotion.
Now that is a sports movie about two wrestling legends that I would like to see. Does that sound like a good movie to you or do you have another movie idea you would like to post about?
