How about Winfield? Are they still a go?

Has a kids tournament ever canceled because of weather?

I recall that there have been a few cancelled over the years.

Winfield has cancelled school today at 12:30. All activites for tonight are cancelled, why are we still putting kids and families at risk to make it for a tournament. I have my club members calling me and wanting to know. Are we not cancelling because of $$? We are supposed to get 1 inch of ice tonight followed by snow, should I advise my parents to go out in this?

My dad always provided safe transportation for our tournaments.

Ice and snow most of the time for the Salina tournament.

I remember as a kid snow on the roads to Huctinson. Dad carrying me over the snow drifts into the big gym.

If it too much risk stay home.

Man up!

Tough call! If you can re-schedule you definitely should! If you can't, strongly consider what "your" parents are wanting!

If something bad happened ... how would you feel?

... "man up" ... when dealing with the safety of others, the size of ones' coconuts should be the least of ones' worries!

What ever decision you make ... some will find fault in it!

I would feel like I was providing an opportunity for many kids to wrestle.

You can get hurt getting out of bed, walking to the car, all kinds of things.

Coconuts between the ears?

There is less than 1/16 inch of snow and no ice in the Butler, Sedwick County area, and the news says no accumulation in Cowley County either.

Go Biddles, my little brother will be there.

Put ice on the floor of your bedroom and you increase that chance of getting hurt greatly.
I as tournament director would feel responsible for all of these kids entered making to my tournament safely. There is 40 more chances to wrestle this year.

The folly of the comment speaks for itself, but I am feeling ornery tonight, so I'll respond.

"Man up"? Yes, the level of one's masculinity always overcomes the laws of physics when a careless driver losses control and comes into your lane causing a head-on collision. Those who have "manned up" walk away unharmed. Those who have not, are injured or killed.

Indeed, all should judge the risk and ignore comments like this.

No, my dad was much too careful for that.

I think I even remember a Winfield tournament with ice and snow on the ground when Mr. Harding was the director.

All made it home safely.

Wasn't there some ice for last years Salina TOC and no one whined and asked for that tournament to cancel.

FYI only I know that I only live 20 miles from winfield but I'm on the slick side winfield and drove 55 the whole way. Tomorrow may be different but the roads are fine tonight.

I live in Mulvane and drove to Winfield tonight. The roads are not exceptional...but if you keep it at a safe speed they're ok. Nobody is forcing you to go, but they aren't going to cancel the tournament.
