NEW PLANS FOR 6U STATE!!!!!
ADDING A ROOKIES DIVISION TO THIS EVENT!!! (First year USAW card holders only!)
2026 KANSAS 6U STATE FEBRUARY 1st 2026 (The day after the TOC!) TONY'S PIZZA ARENA - SALINA KS
The EARLIER DATE!
We strongly advocate for aligning our practices with the principles outlined in both the USA Wrestling Athlete Development Model (ADM) and the USOPC American Development Model (ADM), which clearly indicate that more is not better at this age. Reducing the season for youth wrestlers to reduce the impact of burnout and create more room for advanced, older wrestlers. Recruit and retain! We want all kids wrestlers to compete with the goal of being on their HS team. We want to focus on the 6U and Rookie in an isolated environment to encourage them to want to come back the following season. All funds and proceeds from the Kansas Heartland Wrestling Organization's events will be used to advance the Heartland Dual Team tournament experience and subsidize that and other Kansas wrestling events and experiences. The Kansas Heartland Wrestling organization will be the primary organizer and operator of these events:
KANSAS 6U and ROOKIE STATE Tony's Pizza Arena Salina KS 2/1/26
KANSAS HEARTLAND DUAL QUALIFIERS: Elementary & Middle School State Tony's Pizza Arena Salina KS 3/8/26
KANSAS HEARTLAND GRAND STATE INVITATIONAL: Top 3 KSHSAA State Placers - Boys and Girls Tony's Pizza Arena Salina KS 3/8/26 Who are the Kings and Queens of the Mat? This event is also a qualifier to fill our two high school All-Class dual teams at the Heartland National Duals in Iowa on April 2-4.
All Kansas Heartland events are limited to USAW members who are Kansas state residents. Any wrestler who competes for a KSHSAA high school or attends school in a Kansas based school system and belong to a USAW sanctioned club based in Kansas as determined by USAW. The Kansas Heartland Board will have final say if their is a question of residency. All of these events will have a boys and girls division.
The Kansas Heartland Wrestling Organization is operated as a 501c3.
HIGH SCHOOL GRAND STATE: It is an exclusive invitational to the top 3 KSHSAA placers. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to all champions. There will be a team champion based on traditional, standard, NFHSAA tournament scoring rules. I will seed the boys brackets, Dylan Hitchcock the girls brackets. They will be seeded with the goal of having the state champions separated and no two competitors from the same classification will be paired in the first round if possible. For promotion purposes only, classification scoring will also be announced. All competitors must have a current USAW membership! Five pound allowance. NFHSAA match competition rules will be strictly followed! Awards: Crowns for champs Hammer for most falls least time Kansas Medals for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Only seniors can be coached by their HS coach and wear their HS gear. (Thanks KSHSAA!)

Rookie state sounds a lot like the derby novice championship’s. Or another tournament being taken from a club by the greedy Ottawa 2.0. My kids are done but the things that are and have been done to the clubs is ridiculous!

My kids are done but the things that are and have been done to the clubs is ridiculous! It sounds a lot like it.. It is three weeks earlier and benefits every club in Kansas instead of just one club. More opportunities are certainly not ridiculous. Greedy is being upset that your club doesn't get all the funds.

So, as a "State Championship" the entry fee will be the same as all "State" entry fees?

So, as a "State Championship" the entry fee will be the same as all "State" entry fees? It is the Kansas Heartland series of events, not the USAWKS state tournament series. Entry fees are commensurate with the costs and ALL profits go towards Kansas wrestlers who attend the Heartland events and the Heartland National Duals.

If you recall, they wouldn't allow Ottawa or Derby to call their tournaments "State Championship".

If you recall, they wouldn't allow Ottawa or Derby to call their tournaments "State Championship". It was never a rule but more of a “suggestion” to keep order and all tournaments are sanctioned w USAW which doesn’t restrict the use of “state” or “national” in a tournament’s naming convention. The original suggested policy was to prohibit clubs from calling their individual fund raisers “state” but Derby never adhered to that suggested policy. The Kansas Heartland Wresting Organization is not club and benefits member from all clubs in Kansas. Novice has traditionally been defined as wrestlers in their first two years or very inexperienced athletes. Rookies are first year USAW members only. I have read that Derby has “redefined” Novice for their event but didn’t change the name of their event. This is confusing. The KHWO event is three weeks before Derby so there is not a risk of canabilization but offering parents and wrestlers a chance to end their season earlier as USAW and USA Missouri Wrestling have suggested.

I guess by your way of thinking, any club could use the title "State Championship" when sanctioning and advertising their tournaments. I was one of the many at the time who "suggested" that neither Ottawa or Derby be allowed to use "State" in titling their tournaments. The idea was to protect the word "State" in order to prevent just exactly what is happening here.

The official name is...
Kansas 6 & Under State Championships / KS Heartland Duals Qualifier
As you may or may not know, Greg, there is no USAWKS 6A state. This event has been a spectacular success and benefits every club in Kansas. Are your efforts at word policing helping or hurting Kansas kids?
MORE opportunities!
