I enjoy seeing the pictures (avatars) that many of you use on your posts. Some of my favorites are "Moeder", "Nix", "Mike Furches", "BLT", "Paratroop", "Beeson", "windjammer", and many more. "C C", I see you have a new avatar - nice fish! And "usawks1", I chuckle when I see yours because it reminds me of one of the South Park characters. I decided to try one myself and found it to be much easier than I thought it would be.
The "avatar" I decided to go with is a picture of my 4 year old son Hunter. He will turn five in December and I hope to have him on the mat for a few matches next season. And just is case you are wondering young ladies, those are real muscles! Beneath that savage war paint and rugged exterior, he is also kind of cute.
Hunter is one tough looking four year old. I thought about using a picture of my kid, but he's kind of ugly so I decided to use this picture of myself.
DPloyd4Now, for your entertainment, I've reduced myself to a guitar playing monkey!
winjammer,
Thanks for the laugh. I needed it after finding out tonight that my oldest sister is very ill and has a tough battle ahead of her in the coming months. Not something that I would share with just anyone, but I feel like a lot of the wrestling community is an extension of my family.
Patrick,
Love your choice for the avatar. I haven't seen anyone play a guitar like that since Eddie Van Halen back in '83 or '84. Thank you for the laugh as well.
DPloyd4Now,
I hope all goes well for your sister, and I sincerely thank you and all who are deployed for the sacrifices you make.
Patrick,
Welcome back. That's one crazy song that monkey is playing.
DPloyd4Now,
I hope all goes well for your sister, and I sincerely thank you and all who are deployed for the sacrifices you make.
I second windjammers sentiments Dployd, both with your service & your sister. Stay strong!
As far as the monkey, he's strumming a little diddy he wrote after a long night at a Banana farmer friend of mine who happens to board a certain female monkey. The little fella got ripped on Bananas & the rest is pure genius!
At first I thought he was playing Eruption.
Patrick and winjammer,
Thank you both for your kind words.
Let it be known that the avatar Bonzo Van Halen by "PatrickCavanaugh" has been added to my list of favorites. I hope that your son is getting some well deserved R&R so that he will be ready to go next year.
winjammer - Bonzo plays Eruption? I like it, and I would definitely pay to see it if you can get it arranged.
Can you guys tell me how to change my avatar? I cannot remember.

Sorry to hear your sister is not doing well. I myself know what that is like. I have been batteling breast cancer myself for the last two years and know the struggles and pain that it entails. I am not sure what it is that your sister is dealing with but please know that she and her family are in my prayers and the prayers of my family. Also, thank you for all you do for our country and the time you have given up from your family to make sure we have the time and freeedom to be with our family.
On a side note Anthony did not do so well at the end of the year. He battled the illenss that was going around here for about two weeks and then due to being at his dads the week of districts and dad taking him golfing and just doing way to much activities the two days before districts he was just worn out come saturday of districts. but thank you for the support and comments earlier in the season on his accomplishments. He did take 5th at Brute Nationals and beat Jaret Singh ( a phenominal wrestler as you know) to take 5th.He was very proud of himself as was I. Thanks again!!!!
Well, that was a lesson!! Thanks DPloyd! (Mine's Hunter too!)
kswrestlermom,
Tell Anthony I am impressed by his 5th place showing at Brute. Doesn't sound like it was an easy bracket by any stretch of the imagination. I did see that he wrestled great at Subs but fell short at Districts. Sounds like he could have made it to Topeka for one more weekend if things had been different. Sorry to hear about your illness. I hope that you are doing well and make a full recovery. Good luck to both of you in the coming years ahead.
Allie,
Speaking of Brute(s), your Hunter looks like a scrapper. Great photo. In fact, just from the picture and your location showing as NE Kansas, my first guess was Effingham. After a little research, I believe that I was right. I once went up against a wrestler at High School State by the name Guy Tilton. It didn't go as well as I would have liked. A few years back our club wrestled at Effingham and I saw his name on a plaque board for getting 2nd in State that year. Made me feel a little better after all those years. He had to be the tallest-leanest 138 pounder I saw that year.
I hope that your son is getting some well deserved R&R so that he will be ready to go next year.
I just got back from picking him up from school for fighting! The incident report states " Mr. Davis saw Alex hit another student after being hit first"! I guess now you are not allowed to defend yourself. The school districts are trying to teach our sons to be victims!! Alex is currently playing video games at my office & will not be disciplined other then at school. He also requested that we go to Freestyle practice tonight! So, I guess the vacation is over, but will be much more relaxed. P.S. the kid Alex got into it with weighed I would guess around 140, Alex weighs 60. Don't mess with wrestlers!!
DPloyd-
Yes, we are from Effingham. I wanted to wrestle in High School but Mr. Tilton,a truly wonderful coach & teacher, (Guy's Dad) explained to me that there was wrestling and then there was wrastlin' - one you did on the mat and the other you did in the back seat. He didn't want any wraslin' in his program.
So, I made do with going to every wrestling match. Our school was well known for our wrestling program and it was awesome to go and watch our guys wrestle. So, I probably saw you wrestle with Guy.
I was very happy when my son showed an interest in wrestling. (At the very least, I am not inept when discussing his matches with him!)
Patrick,
I wouldn't punish him either. Sounds like the other kid deserved a little more than a punch in the nose - maybe they would've been a little more lenient if he had thrown a headlock on him...
If he threw a head-and-arm, he should be punished!! Now if he hit with a blast double leg ... he should be applauded!!
I would tell the teacher that it was probably just a head tap to set up an outside single as he was attempting to safely subdue the other child. It's worth a shot.
Now if he hit with a blast double leg ... he should be applauded!!
Now that's funny, the coach in me requested he replayed the whole fight; the kid hit him in the arm several times & then the nut shot is what made my boy retaliate with a right hook to the jaw; when he was done I told him he should have hit a blast double & then ground & pound baby.
My son was being teased at school today and these two kids were kicking him in the butt and flicking him behind the ear! He told them both MULTIPLE times to stop and they would not!!
Then one of them slapeed him in the back of the head and my son slammed in into a locker and told him to stop and then let him go!
My son and ONE of the other boys are now suspended!
My son retaliated so that is why he is in trouble too!
My son said that it was not reatliation! He said he did that kid a favor!! LOL!! If he would of punched the kid multiple times he would of got the same punishment!
So with all that being said and the school policies the way they are, how do you teach a kid to turn the other cheak?
By the way...
The story was told to me by the VP of the school so it is not a one sided story from my son!
nice pic of your boy dployd4now man i see the things i have missed, i have had a crappy week in the roofing business, wind rain but i can always count on you guy's for a good laugh.
I have had the same experience with my son, who is 8, but the punishment was not that severe. He was playing with another boy on the playground when the other boy took what my son said out of context and hit my son. Being a wrestler, my son took the other boy down in the headlock. LOL! Needless to say, the other boy did not like the headlock. My son and the other boy got punished by the school, because of the "Hands off policy". They both had to miss recesses. My son did not get punished at home though. My rule is if someone hits you first, hit back and we will be behind you 100%; but if you hit first, then there will be punishment at home.
Must be something in the air back in Kansas. My wife told me on Wednesday that Hunter (my avatar choice) had been bit on the arm by another kid at his Pre-K class that morning. The boy had taken something from another student and Hunter instisted that he give it back. Although he was wearing a fairly heavy coat, Hunter still had a bite mark on his arm. I guess when I get home I will show Hunter the proper way to set the cross face and then finish it strong.
It really must have been in the air this week, my son also came home telling me how he was getting picked on by another kid twice his size and when the kid pushed him from behind he had enough and decided to take the kid down with a head and arm. He then said he crossed faced the kid hard enough to make his nose bleed and when everyone in the gym (track practice was getting ready to start) started oohing and ahhing he realized he had better let the kid go. He was not seen by an adult so there were no punishments handed out at school and I also didn't hand any out at home. I have always told my kids they were allowed to defend themselves but once the situation is calm they must let go and walk away. Being on the small side my son is always getting picked on usually just ignores them, but I guess this kid has been really pickin at him and pushing him around for weeks now so he had enough and decided to end it. Seems to be the week for self defense fights. lol
Now if he hit with a blast double leg ... he should be applauded!!
I told him he should have hit a blast double & then ground & pound baby.
Good grief, just got another call from school, why do kids listen the most when it's questionable advice? take down followed by ground & pound! He has had 2 fights ever in school, but 2 weeks in a row?
The weather's changing... these kids are like little barometers.
"The weather's changing... these kids are like little barometers."
Allie,
I think you are right. The barometric pressure just went up at our house a couple of days ago. My 12, soon to be 13 year old wrestler asked me on a vid call if he could "have a girlfriend tomorrow". I said "yes, just for tomorrow". He hasn't been this interested in a girl since he was in kindergarden. Back then it was cute, now ......... ??? I did tell him a while back that the only time of year I didn't have a girlfriend was during wrestling season and I expected him to keep up the tradition. That being said, I guess he can have a girlfriend for more than a day, but only until wrestling starts back up.
