Tournament Directors,
If you are using Track Wrestling to run your tournament set it up for, “Pre-registration open to the general public” when you sign up for your tournament. This will allow other clubs to quickly sign their kids up that have already registered their wrestlers with Track Wrestling. The system will prompt them to verify each wrestler’s name, age, weight, etc. are correct before they are actually entered. This will save a lot of typing every weekend, otherwise it becomes a time consuming process if you have a lot of wrestlers.
To register your wrestlers click on the “Membership” link on the left side of Track Wrestling’s home page and follow the instructions. Once the info is entered you won’t have to do it again. Then it just becomes a matter of placing a checkmark in front of the wrestlers you want to place in a tournament each weekend.
As more and more people start to use trackwrestling for their tournaments, people will begin to get more familiar with the program and understand more of the features such as this. This year is our first time using trackwrestling and so far, I like what I see and I can see the several advantages of the features like this. It is a process and most of us are still learning through the process. With input from those of us that use it maybe the word will get out about the many features available.
Sincerely,
Craig Gash

Please do not complain to people running the tournament about your wrestler being on wrong side of the bracket, two A rated wrestlers same side of bracket, weight classes being different than kansas guidelines, to much weight spread ect. It is a nightmare to deal with alot of these things after bracketing. Wrestle the bracket if mistakes are minor. This will help you get out of tournamens earler. The weight spreads are for the heavy & light weights to make more matches for your wrestler. The brackets are not going to be just like you want most the time. If I could decide where kids went in my sons brackets I would almost always change something. The worlds not perfect.
Track wrestling seems to be a great tool, but still seems clumbersome to get started on time, and a mad dash for coaches to fill out in time the bout numbers prior to matches. I also noticed a terrible clitch if it is meant to keep track of wrestlers for the purpose of seeding; we had one boy that I saw, (being my son) where not one of his matches was recorded accuratly, even a match that he had pinned a kid, showed up on track that he had lost 5-0 another was a 17-0 win that showed up 9-2, and one he lost 12-1 showed up as a 9-2 loss. I was just a bit courios as to the tracking of wrestlers and how such errors would effect an individual towards the end of year subs ...
The errors you are talking about are not the fault of Track Wrestling. The reason you see those kinds of errors is because the table workers did not write it down correctly on the bout sheets. The person entering the data into Track Wrestling has no way of knowing if the info they are entering is correct. If you have ever worked a table you can understand why these errors do happen. The table workers are working hard to make sure everything is correct, but sometime mistakes do happen.
There is a way to print off coaches bout sheets I had intenions of doing so, but I was to busy putting out other fires. Woodys right! Please every one that has a mistake in there bracket PM or email & I will correct it. ROSSVILLE.
I thought that Rossville had the brackets up much faster than any other tournament i have been to - considering they gave people a little extra time to weigh in because of the weather. If memory serves me correctly it was 9:10 when wrestling started. I had plenty of time to record all bout numbers for the 14 kids that our club brought and fill out several other bout sheets for the coaches of out kids.
Mistakes happen in record keeping and the computer system isn't all knowing... Mr. Luellen fixed mistakes that I found promptly.
I think trackwrestling is a good tool. People, however, make mistakes (unfortunately!)
I like track wrestling, but how come it takes so long to see what participants are going to these tournaments. It tells you what clubs and how many kids they are bringing but won't give you any names in each age and weight division. Is this the discresion of the tournament host or does track wrestling not release this information until the day of the tournament?
The tournament director decides when or if any info releases to public. The reason they dont show any info untill after deadline is so people wont be changing weights to get out of wrestling some one they dont want to wrestle.
After spending the last week fielding calls and e-mails from clubs needing to make changes but being unable to edit in this system, I would like to point out what I think is the problem.
When you go in and edit a wrestler there is a very small popup that comes up (near the top of the page) that asks you to temporarily allow popups. You have to click on that to allow the popup then go back and hit edit again.
You might consider turning off popup blockers when you are in this system to help the process.

Today was the 2nd time this year that we had bouts stacked so close together.
We had the one kid wrestle 5 matches in an hour and 20 min. This was with us skipping a few matches AND them adding in an exibition match.
You mention it to the ref or table worker and you would think you were asking them to cut off their foot. I know everyone wants to get out of there but this is too much. They are also so quick to blame it on Track Wrestling.
We really want to try this program in our club but I am just scared away by the stuff I see at other tournaments. The Valley Center people were working so hard today but it did not stop the very late start, stacked matches, and the riot that ALMOST happened at the table where they sell brackets. They had to start the tournament BEFORE coaches could even see brackets on the wall. They were just calling kids to tables.
I want to use track wrestling but we are trying to grow a club and put on a great tournament. I don't know if we can chance it.
Any Thoughts???
I thought the tourn went smoothly...
Yes, there were parents getting their panties in a bunch because they had to have the bracket.
My son's matches were running one per hour which was great... I do know the 6 man round robin kids were wrestling one after another in the end...
I was just glad to see that they were moving matches quickly to fill the open mats unlike some tourns...
Good work VC club...
I have helped with two tournaments this year and both of them had some of the same problems. The biggest was how much time you have when you close weigh ins to when you start printing wall brackets and bout sheets.
I would like some input to help with this and any other problems to run a more efficent tournament. Here are a few options that I see could help.
(1 )Sattelite weigh ins by doing this you would have the night before and the mourning of to have all the bracketing done and printed and ready for coaches in plenty of time before the tournament ever starts.
(2) Close the weigh ins the mourning of the tournament earlier to allow more time for bracketing. If this option is used it must be mandatory or you will not have acomplished anything.
(3) Instead of starting the tournament at 9 you could set the time for 10 to help give time to do the brackets.
These are just some options that I have heard and I am sure there are plenty more. But I think that with input from all those that go to tournaments rather it be from coaches, wrestlers, or spectators we can come up with something that we all can live with.
I know that there are some critics out there that only will see the negatives but for those of you that have helped hosting a tournament you all know haow much time is involved. This the biggest selling point for me is all of the small things that is so easy to acomplish using trackwrestling that would be a night mare if you were to have done it the old way.
When we had the Paola Tournamnet this year we were able to allow several kids that had entered into the tournament either in the wrong weight class or just plain and simple over weight the option of moving to a differant weight class so they could wrestle. Then when weigh ins were closed we had 38 scratches that we had to deal with. This was done with ease but because of the changes that we did we were hurried to get started at 9 (which I am very commited in doing) we made a few mistakes and did not meet our goals.
If we could keep this topic going I think it will help every tournament Director host a much better tournament.
Thanks

One thing that we learned in using track wrestling that may be a good idea with so many people going to track wrestling is going to a Friday night only weigh in, then have several satilite weign in options. This would give you friday night after your weign ins to do all your scratches, bracket your tournament, post brackets and have your brackets available for sale as soon as people show up. You would start on time and would not have the afternoon weigh in to slow your second session down. Not saying that you may not run late with the second session that is unpredictable, but would sure make things go alot quicker. Just an idea
With track wrestling is it possible to print at least the first bout number and mat # for each wrestler on the team and put them on one sheet. Hand the sheets out to the coach at the coaches meeting. It seems pretty simple and would make the start of the tournament less hectic.
Yes this is possible. I learned this trick last year at Subs; before I actually used the program. goto the trackwrestling mobile site on your web-enabled phone to the following url.
http://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/mobile goto "event tools" then pull up the tournament, once there you can goto "Team bout schedule" select your team and pull up the first bouts that are scheduled for each of your kids on your team. You can also go here on your computer (the font is a bit small but still works the same)
We used the team bout schedule feature last year at our novice tournament and plan do so again this year. I can't tell you for sure if the coaches liked using them, except for our coaches, but I agree that the font is small. I do like the idea of using the mobile aspect of the site. I will make sure this is available for this year's tournament.
One suggestion after using this system for our tournament...don't put blank bout sheets on the tables "just in case"...
Also, during the table worker meeting make sure that the table workers are not changing anything with the brackets. We had one table change the bracket around due to a kid not showing for the match. Even though it made sense at the table, when it came back to the computer, it made things difficult.
This was our first year using track wrestling and although I still have a lot to learn and mistakes were made, it should be better next year. I would ask everybody to be patient with this system as it is a great tool and makes running tournaments so much easier! The kinks will get worked out!
I also see a time when we don't sign up for a weight class, only sign up your age group beforehand. When you weigh in you are put into a bracket in the computer. There will still be those who will cut weight but no more 6 and under parents wondering if their kid can eat dinner the night before weigh ins.

Let me start by saying I like Track Wrestling and what it brings to the wrestling community. Having said that, I think we as a community need to look at adjusting our business practices of how we run the weigh in and bracketing parts of our tournaments.
There's a lot of good suggestions already posted. I think the main problem we need to solve is how to get the coaches the match information of their wrestlers before brackets are posted to the rest of the community. I like the idea of getting a sheet with the wrestlers first bouts handed to the coaches at the coaches meeting. This gives enough time for us to inform the kids and parents.
The number 1 recommendation is the one Tuff made up above. Let's go to Friday night weigh ins at our own locations. Here's an example of how it could work.....
1. Practice Friday night at 5:30 or 6:00 pm.
2. Kids check weight. Warm up, drill, play a game.
3. Weigh your kids in. Club administrator calls or emails exact weights to tournament director by 8:00 pm.
4. Tournament director has all night to get brackets done.
5. Coaches can get brackets as they walk in the door.
Now what are the disadvantages to this.....
1. I know that you will still have some scratches of kids that just don't show up. I know that this creates a challenge and I am not familiar enough with trackwrestling to know how to overcome this challenge. This is still a very small population or percentage of the people attending the tournament.
2. People working the tournament bracketing will have to work on Friday night.
Advantages......
1. People don't have to travel on Friday nights for weigh ins.
2. Kids have fun at Friday night practice.
3. We don't have to get up extremely early for Saturday morning weigh ins.
4. I think tournaments will start on time.
5. Less stress and cost for the parents of the wrestlers.
What does this require.....
TRUST by adults.
I know some will take advantage of a system like this but I also believe that this will be a very small amount. We are talking about kids open and novice tournaments. The point of these tournaments are for the kids to get matches and experience. The adults have a tendency to worry too much about the weight, the kids just want to wrestle. I am willing to trust every club in this state in order to go to a system like this (I do not propose we do this for the subs, dist, and state; keep those the same).
By the way, we did this during the freestyle/greco season with the tournament in Manhattan and it seemed to work just fine. In our case, we didn't have to drive from Leavenworth to Manhattan on Fri. night or get up really early on Sat. We weighed in at home and I called the weights in by 8:00. It worked great....coaches liked it, parents liked it, kids loved it!

I dont understand this problem about coaches getting bout numbers on time. At rossville the brackets were on the wall at around 8:30 wrestling started at 9:10, this gives 40min to get bout numbers. You can print coaches bout numbers on trackwrestling & I promise I will do this next year at rossville. Home sight weigh in on the honor system will give a advantage to the people that dont have honor. I dont think thats a big problem as long as its not dist or state.
I wouldn't mind home weigh-ins. But what happens when your wrestler’s weight is challenged?
If the child weighs 105 on Friday night and has breakfast Saturday morning and weighs 106.3 when they get to the tournament and the weight is challenged, what happens? Booted from the tournament? Move them up a class?
I am asking as a tournament director, not as a parent. Don’t start the cutting weight comments. I don’t have kids that wrestle.
Mike,
The problem was that the coaches couldn't get to the brackets because it was too crowded with coaches, parents, wrestlers, brothers, sisters, etc. Again, I'm not sure we need the whole brackets at the start but if we could get the print out that has the wrestlers listed with their initial bout numbers it would be great.
The reason this is important from my perspective is that we usually have 40-60 kids that we are trying to track and at the same time we are trying to divide coaches up to the proper mats. We like to be able to tell the kids which coaches will be coaching them that day so they know who to look for.
I agree that remote weigh ins give the advantage to the dishonorable.....I also don't think it will be a big problem. I am willing to accept that risk in order to make the experience easier, most cost effect, and more enjoyable for the majority of our kids and families.
Magnum,
Great point. My recommendation is at open and novice tournaments we don't let the weight be challenged. We adults accept what is turned it.
If we allow challenges, then we can always give a 1 lb or 2 lb allowance. This really is not different than if you do Friday night or Saturday on site weigh ins. What do we do know if a kid weighs in Friday night at the tournament site and then is challenged on Saturday? You can handle it the same way. As a tournament director it is your call.
Shawn Budke
We could move to block wrestling. No predetermined weight classes. Take the first 5, the next 5 and so on and put them all in round robin brackets. This is how many WI and IL tournaments are run. Then you can lie about your weight but you have no idea where you will end up. I really think everyone gets way to caught up in the weight game for these weekend warm up tournaments. We do need to be strict for the qualifying series but the rest of the tournaments are just work outs with medals.
I do agree that the the Coaches should be handed a list of their wrestlers with their bouts before the brackets are printed.
The printing is time consuming. This past Saturday one of the TRACKWRESTLING servers wasn't functioning properly so they rerouted us. If you are running a tournament and notice poor performance then you should call the support number immediately. The Tritz brothers are very friendly and helpful.
I also recommend that everyone setup their bout sheets to print only one per page. This gets the results back faster and it lessens the confusion in for the data entry folks entering the results.
You MUST train your table workers to fill out the bout sheets completely and accurately.
The biggest issue with starting on time is the high number of no shows. This impacts the operation regardless of whether it is run with TRACK or manually unless you are not concerned with getting wrestlers matches.
I like the block wrestling idea. When I bracket I remove all predetermined weight classes this gives the computer more freedom to make full brackets. I just use the weights that the kids entered as there actual weight. The only reason I dont use actual weight is because I worry about it taking to long to enter in system & starting late. I may use actual weights next year. The point is rossville is basically using the block system now & we like it.
I love using block wrestling. We used it last year and it was wonderful. The kids and coaches seemed to respond well to it too because it gave the kids some different competition than they were normally wrestling because they were locked into a certain weight in a lot of the other tournaments. It doesn't take that much time to enter the weights in either. It also made it easier to eliminate the scratches because the kids that didn't weigh in were pulled out immediately, before printing any brackets. Granted, we are only a Novice tournament, and we will only do round robin brackets, but it is not difficult to incorporate in the larger open tournaments too. JMO
It was great to see everyone! Wish we could have seen more of you!
Happy New Year!!
You can also go here on your computer (the font is a bit small but still works the same)
I didn't see "event tools" as an option, but I did find the "Team bout Schedule" which is under the "Print Documents option." I don't see where you can just print off the first round of bout numbers. Am I looking in the right spot?
I think this thread could turn out to be one of the most productive in a long time. There have been several great ideas on how we can make the weekend experience better. I personally think there are a lot of advantages to Track Wrestling and believe it is the way to go. Shawn and Will, I love the idea about Friday night remote weigh ins & block wrestling and again believe with a little work these additions can enhance the experience. With regards to the risk of cheating while allowing remote weigh ins, although small I think it still could get away from us. However, with a little effort it could be easily mitigated with the possible oversight of a third party e.g. district/assistant director, and/or officials. The advantages as listed above far outweigh the negatives and with a little tweaking these could be a great improvement. Will, “workouts with medals”? I like that. But, I also feel we have rules in place for a reason and agree with keeping a level playing field for everyone. I do not agree with the practice of the host tournament not weighing in their kids just because they are hosting nor do I agree with selecting an earlier time for them to weigh in. What is wrong with making weight and making it at the same time everyone else is? The block wrestling idea is a creative approach and as long as you know what to expect and accept it, it may be a pretty good thing. Question, if a wrestler wanted to wrestle up or go after someone in particular how would this be handled in this environment?
Ultimately I think the weigh in process is a huge contributor to the root cause of running late. Addressing this frees up more time for everything else.
Keep the thoughts coming.
There is a lot of value embedded in this thread. Would you all see value in setting up a Wiki type of site/format that would allow for pulling out the tips, lessons learned, best practices etc into a consolidated place?
It seems that with the experience gained from running a tournament in TW, it would be nice to document key aspects of that experience and capitalize on the knowledge base we have for others to benefit?
Possible topics, off-the-cuff:
-Efficient tournament setup. (Number and type of people, number of printers, computers, etc)
-How to employ different styles of bracketing.
-Missing kid / incorrect information after brackets done.
-Rounds not numbered correctly.
-Approaches to efficiently setup mat/match assignments.
-Other Issues experience and how you resolved them.
-Handling off-line registration in TW.
-Printing bouts for each team.
For those that my not be familiar with a wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki For each of these, walk-thru's, video's etc could be added as well. Any thoughts? Is there something like this already aside from the FAQ/Checklist on TW?
I could contribute from a content and technology/hosting perspective.
Joe,
I think that is a great idea. I think the list you started is a great place to start. Great idea!

Like I posted earlier, I think you just do off site weigh in , you have your coaches go to designated posts on all four sides of your town, for example we live in Valley Center, so we would have 2 coaches go to Goddard, 2 to Derby, 2 to Salina and 2 to ElDorado. Then they work weigh ins and bring everything back you enter your information and post all your wall brackets and print brackets to sell, and wrestle. If you have no shows then scratch them that day. Sound pretty easy but not sure if everyone would like this or not. Just suggestions to get started on time, I think this is the main problem everyone is running into. Other than that Track Wrestling is pretty smooth.
Scratching at the tables defeats the advantage of the TW system. YOU HAVE TO DELETE ALL NO SHOWS THEN BRACKET. The reason for this is simple. Wrestlers that are not at the tournament are not on the brackets! This is the best way to do it. The other option is wait at table for 5 min then go get your hand raised. & wrestle your first match at 50 or 60. Having brackets on the wall the night before & selling brackets has to be sacraficed to gain this advantage. Tournaments started late before track wrestling. There is getting to be alot of people that know how to run this program & it will get better.
I didn't see "event tools" as an option, but I did find the "Team bout Schedule" which is under the "Print Documents option." I don't see where you can just print off the first round of bout numbers. Am I looking in the right spot?
I was talking about the mobile site for the coaches. The administrator can print off the team bout sheets which is found under the "Print Documents". I think it is a great idea to have these printed off for the coaches at the coaches meeting. But there will always be some coaches that don't make it to the coaches meeting and will be scrambling to get the bout numbers right before the tournament starts and thus comes in the mobile site which can be accessed by any web-enabled phone. Both options will bring up the first round bout numbers and mat numbers for the team selected. It also will bring up any following rounds bout numbers for round robin brackets as well.
I've been noticing that some of the tournaments are assigning mat #'s to weight classes, determining bracket types, saving seeds, and building their brackets prior to weigh-in. I'm under the impression that this isn't supposed to be done until weigh-in is over and scratches have been eliminated.
Have I been misinformed?
You have been given the right info. It really saves you the headaches later.
It has been suggested in a previous post about allowing remote weigh-ins. I think this is a great idea, and could speed up the saturday morning process. Here is what I would like to do at our tournament, but would like your feedback.
1) Manditory Pre-Registration.
2) weigh-in your kids Thursday prior to the tournament. Typically there will be practice that night, which will be more convenient for each club.
3) Each club would need to e-mail me Thursday night...say by 10:00 p.m. letting me know who made weight etc. This would allow me to import the wrestlers into the test site so I could make sure our ducks are in a row.
4) Have a coaches meeting 1hr & 15min prior to the start of the tournement. Print off each clubs participants. Each team would then inform us if there are any scratches that need to be made.
5) Eliminate scratches, build brackets, bout sheets etc., and start wrestling on time.
I know this isn't perfect. There will be some who cheat, but I think most people are honest. Our Tournament is towards the later part of the year, and most people know where other kids from other clubs have been wrestling. Maybe we could have a 2% tolerance. If a kid has his weight challenged (maybe weight challenges need to be cut off by noon), and he is over 2%, then he will be eliminated from the tournament.
Comments?
Pelland, I think you will have a lot of success with your approach, good luck. Remote weigh-ins are a great idea if handled with integrity.
Here is a suggestion/request for those using Trackwrestling. Please release your information to the public as soon as possible. One of the benefits of this program is the live update feature. This allows those not attending the ability to keep track of their club's performance throughout the day. While recently attending Tulsa Nationals I became very frustrated that I could not view any details of an ongoing tourney. What good does it do to keep this information private until the tourney is about finished? What are the benefits of not releasing the entries prior to the tourney and why not release the data to the public at the beginning of the tourney?
Go to the test site before the tournament & practice bracketing & fixing mistakes--AFTER BRACKETING. This is not hard to do. To fix bracket mistakes after bracketing go to particapants & pull up wrestler that has mistake & correct mistake (age and or weight are mose common) the system will tell you what to do from there. Dont forget to reapply number scemes or changed brackets & bouts will not have bout numbers. Then print changed brackets & bout sheets.
Does a club have the ability to create the bracket or is it done for you by track wrestling...
I was wondering that because I saw some pretty interesting brackets... Where the two top kids faced each other right away in a 8 man bracket. Then they both pinned there way out the front and back after thier match with each other was done...
The track wrestling system wont put 2 A rated wrestlers on same side of bracket if there are only 2 A rated. If there are 3 or more it seperates kids from same team & looks at a few other thing to seprate wrestlers. The track wrestling system cannot tell if people are not honest about the ratings. The problem may have been that somone that had B or C rated wrestler rated them an A. Maybe that the coaches-parents-wrestler wanted in A bracket so they rated him A when he was a B or C. All of these Errors are blamed on track wrestling & the problem is the info that is put in system. This is the reason brackets are never perfect.
My suggestion for any club using Trackwrestling is that they call Manhattan and see how they did it.
They had complete and accurate brackets bright and early at the Sat morning weigh-in. I suspect they had them Friday night. They posted a few new brackets in different colored paper for those that had changed. No bracketing after weigh-in, no starting 1.5 hours late, no anxiety about keeping your son warm because the start time has come and gone and you don't know if he is match no. 1 and they are going to start at any moment.
Derby also did a nice job and could help clubs be a success.
I admit that we did have one major snafu on Saturday morning that, hopefully, we learned from and will be changing our process because of this. Basically we had a high schooler running one of our weigh-in scales who wasn't checking kids off on the weigh-in sheet. The kid was new to the sport and not very familiar with the process. This caused several unnecessary scratches in the 10U brackets, most notably 10U Novice 70 lbs where it really got interesting. several kids were scratched that should not have been and I combined the 2 brackets into one 8 man bracket. figured out the mistake after we started wrestling and a couple of the bouts in that bracket had already wrestled. Once I saw this mistake, I stopped that mat from wrestling to try to figure out the best way to fix the issue. This was a learning experience and because of it, we have changed our process for the future.

One question that you computer geeks can answer for me. Is there a way on trackwrestling to "save" a kids' info so that when you type in his name, so that his USA card number, birth date, etc pops up so I don't have to pull my file out every tourney to reenter that same info? Would be a time saver for coaches entering kids, but not a huge deal.
Thanks
Doug
I aint no computer geek but I can answer your question. Go to trackwrestling prereg its on home page. There you can regester all wrestlers with your club. When you enter in a tournament all you have to do is put a check mark beside the wrestlers attending. You can change weights easy if need be. Once your wrestlers are regesterd you can pull up the list any time.
pssst ... luellen may not be a geek but he does have a pocket liner and white tape keeps his black horn-rims together ... don't spread it around though, it is a secret!!
Now I have to go a buy another harley & start wearing & chain wallet & boots & black t-shirts again.
I'll give it a whirl, but you'll probably be hearing back from me when I get hung up on something.........
Thanks
Doug
I'm back already. So am I going to have to have each kids' trackwrestling number handy when I sign them up, or is it going to be just entering their name and the other info will pop up?
Your wrestlers will be assigned a TW number when you regester them, you dont need to enter that number but it is one way to pull up a wrestler.
the other info will fill in automatically if you are registering them for a tournament. make sure to select the proper club. it auto defaults to the first one in the list.
jeff
I found out that I had to go and edit some of our wrestlers' info, that had used trackwrestling to register back in Freestyle season. It had them under their FR Greco club names. Had to request their passwords, then login to each one and edit.
I'll find out if it helped me next tourney I enter that uses trackwrestling!!
Thanks
create an account under the pre-registration and then add your wrestlers. You can search by team name, TW number, name, etc. Once you get them added to your account, they are always there. Whan you register for a tournament, log back into your account and put a check next to your wrestlers name. The more info you can add to their individual account, the more info will auto populate while you are registering.
on the mobile site is there a way to narrow down the list of tournament options. When i go into it, there are about 400 tournament options to scroll through.
You can also go here on your computer (the font is a bit small but still works the same)
I've used the trackwrestling "autofill" feature for several tourneys now, and it is sure nice!! After you enter all of your kids' info onto trackwrestling, including names, birthdate, team, USA card number, etc, you print off a list of all of your wrestlers, and it has a trackwrestling number for each kid. Keep that list handy, and everytime you "add wrestler" for a tourney, just enter that number at the top, tab to the next line and the other info pops up automatically, so all you have to do is click on the correct weight, as his age group comes up automatically as well. Definitely a timesaver.
We had 357 kids at our tournament this weekend and started out w/ just two people on the computers. I quickly snagged a couple more and everything seemed to go pretty smooth.
We had 3 people entering bouts, and one person staying on top of printing bout sheets. 1/2 the time, the 3 people entering bout sheets were waiting on bout sheet runners to bring them updated bouts, but once someone brought 10-20 bouts to get updated, they were able to get them knocked out which allowed me to print more bouts to be delivered to the tables.
Also, spread out, because there is a lot of paper floating around. Once bouts are entered, stack your completed bouts by age group. Several times I couldn't print new bout sheets because I was waiting on results from a prior round. But you can tell on the screen that that bout was already wrestled. Someone would go over to the stack, quickly find it, and get it entered. Once that particular bout was entered, I would then be able to print 12-14 new bout sheets which keept me ahead of the mat.
Remote weigh-ins were awesome. We only weighed in 40 kids Friday night, and probably another 60 kids Saturday morning. Nobody challenged another wrestlers weight. And I didn't here anyone complain about a kid looking heavy. I was hoping that we wouldn't.
Now that our tournament is over, I have to share a screw up we made. Saturday morning we had a quick coaches meeting. I handed each club a roster and had them double check to make sure everything was entered correctly, and advise me if there were any scratches. I had a few clubs that didn't show up, so I just went with what we had and if they had a kid that didn't show, we scratched them at the table. Out of all the teams who came, the only club that had a problem with their roster was................(((((PRATT))))). I scratched a kid Thursday because his Great Grandmother passed away, then Friday nght he showed up to weigh in. I FORGOT TO ADD HIM BACK INTO THE TOURNAMENT. I created brackets, numbered the brackets, and printed them only to find out about 5-10 minutes before the start of the tournament that he was left out. I FREAKED OUT!!!!....Any way, we got started about 9:30 I think. I can sit back now and laugh at myself, but Saturday I was not happy. I guess the point I'm trying to make is........double check your own roster. I didn't!!!
