Can anyone tell me anything about this club? I'm curious about the coaches and how they are with their wrestlers! Any information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

thank you, i have that info. They simply were talking to my son about wrestling w/ them and I want to see if it's worth driving to wichita for it!
they are really just about the money. i tried to get them to let me have some mat time for my 8 and unders. they acted really stuck on themselves. sorry to say. i have much better talent.
so where do u practice? make sure i bring that 8 and under hwt to show you whats up! he is better than all your lightweights. MR. Guerrreo.......
oh. almost forgot. its west high. oh wow, you really have something goin for you???????
you know the comment about the money is probaly a little harsh, these coaches put a lot of time and miss out on a lot of family time to help these kids out. i am sure it has nothing to do with money.
i mean do you you think these coaches are going on a cruise or maybe a casino on the money you pay for club dues.
give a little credit to boo's school and all other coaches who spend there nites and weekends helping these kids out. just my own thoughts here.
does it matter where they practice, does it realy matter if you have an 8 year old hwt that can show them up. mister he's in the wrong sport. why don't you list his name and lets see if he's a state champion this year then maybe you will have braggin rights. we will be waitin for the name.
i aint tryin to stir the pot either but if he is that good i would like to follow this kid.
sorry to all i had a few to many tonite, wife went to bed and of course little nix is asleep, so i did not show him no bad habits. and i am not chewing lol. good luck to all this weekend.
Money? Are you serious? Boo and his coaches are top notch. They do what they do because they LOVE the sport as do most of us on this forum. Rest assured it has nothing to do with money and West High has a wrestling mat just like any other wrestling room and that's really all that matters.
If they are asking your boy to wrestle with them go check it out. You well not be sorry . They are a class ACT. Send me a email with a phone number. So I can talk to you I'm not good a typing
Rinse and spit just the same!
I'm not going to get involved in the bad-mouthing and nonsense, but I do want to say that my son wrestles for this club. He enjoys it and I think that's all that matters. If they have asked you to wrestle with us, I would certainly consider it.
Just thinking.
Do you[your son] have a good partner where you are at?
To me it is what is best for your son.If he has no one in the group he is in now, that is better or equal to him.I would look for better boy to be his partner.
This year my boy of 2nd year is way way better. He has boys that killed him at the 1st of the yaer. They can still beat him now.But O my there is a ton of difrance in he moves.Coaches do make some difrance, but the boy he partners up with will make him way way better.
To Dean70,
Do you know Boo and Jesse? They are good people. You seem to be the one on hear bragging, so who is stuck on themselves? I have also noticed the people who are the most abusive on the talk forum
don't identify themselves by their real name.
Kevin Howell
Dean70,
Boo, Jesse, Lou, Chris, Brian, Big Dev....all quality guys and very good coaches. If you want to post negative comments, at least have the b@!!s to put your name with your post. I guess you were just in a bashing mood as I also see that you were running smack toward the Circle wrestling program on another post. Boo runs a very good program and turns out not only some fine wrestlers, but some good kids as well. In two years with the club, I don't know of any instances where kids have caused or created any trouble at any of the tournaments we've been to.

It did seem a little silly to brag about an 8 yr old HWT whipping their LT HWT kids?!
I guess he deleted that post.
This post is really ridiculous anyway. If you don't know anything about the club then keep your mouth shut. If you are just intimidated by them admit it and move on!!!
Anyone that makes a comment like "they're in it for the money" has not witnessed all of the time that coaches and parents put into running and coaching a club. Even the coaches that get some perks are way "underpaid" but you'll never hear them complain, cause they sure as heck ain't in it for the money.
holy spit. some coaches actually get paid to coach. hmmmmmmmmmmm. guess that means i am not in it for the money for sure.
yes some clubs pay their coaches. doug eck gets 65k/year to coach the brawlers. how do you think he can afford to go to the casino all the time.
K stands for "kick in the nuts". I'm just glad it ain't 66

This response is to no one in particular. I usually only view these talk forums and do not enter anything. I have occasionally responded, but only if it pertained to my son.
I think the vast majority of you are insane. I am in particular talking about this post. Does no one understand that kids wrestling is about building your LOCAL high school program?? Why is there no loyalty to your home town?
I have nothing against Boo's School. I know nothing about them. I have on occasion watched their wrestlers compete and yes, they have some good ones. I, however, do not care if they are PERCEIVED as better than the one I am involved with. Perception is deceptive. I think our program has some good ones as well.
There is one thing that strikes me as I view many of the posts on this site. Most of the " posters " are more concerned with wrestling partners, program prestige, and their personal agenda. If you have a good wrestler, he will have a good career.
There are posters on this site that do not fall into this category. Beeson is one that comes to mind. I have read many of his and have never heard him talk about his son, who is very good. If he has ever talked about his son, it was to answer a direct question. I know there are more, but I do not visit that often.
My point is, get off your personal agenda and support your local team.
Yes, we all want the best for our children. How about having some friggin loyalty as well!

i need contact information for the tournament in topeka on march 22 posted by mark stanley. or call me at (316)990-4515. my name is charles king/wichita aztecas
I have stayed out of this but have a definite opinion, that is likely different than some. When in Oklahoma, and I know some don't like hearing that, and I am not saying it is better than Kansas in any way so let's not even go there, but many clubs paid their coaches. Clubs that hosted tournaments, often made enough money to pay the coaches some at the end of the year. I think with our club it was somewhere around $7,000 per year, and other clubs paid just as much if not more. Our fees, when considering we didn't purchase a USA card was about $35 per year per person, and scholarships were available so if you didn't have money it was no big deal but there was an application process. Our head coach was a former wrestler at Arizona State and most of the kids’ coaches had significant college experience. The assistant coaches got some money, and there were the many volunteer coaches who were volunteers. Our club, our coach Keith used about half of the money he was paid to take all of the kids, around 100 of them, to all night Laser Tag and a BBQ dinner each year. I am sure he still had money left over but frankly we didn't care.
Here is my thought, just because someone gets paid, and I don't know Boo's School and am not implying their coaches do, how does that take away from their love of the sport? Does that mean that every person that does a job hates it because they get paid? Why is it that we would put down anyone that gets paid for what they do and what they love doing? It seems that from tournaments to now coaches, anyone making money must be evil. I continue to hear Jack Roller's name come up, but the reality is Jack runs a business that does quite well, but he also gives quite a bit back and in the long run, the sport and many wrestlers benefit for it because of his willingness to do the work he does. I challenge, Jack has done more than many realize, while it is easy to talk about him making money, have you ever thought about all of the tournaments he has done where he lost his shirt?
I don't care if coaches get paid, and if a club chooses to pay their coaches, if that is the case, good for the coach. I don't think that implies any less love for the sport.
Think of the logic that is critical, in America of all places that finds fault with someone making money for something they do. The implications of that argument, in life, are simply just not logical. In fact, I hope some people would make money from their knowledge, after all of the years they have put in the sport it seems to me like they deserve it. Purler, Akin, Chertow, Gardner, and numerous others deserve what they earn or get paid for regarding their knowledge and work. Unless any of you with professional or skill knowledge is giving away all of your time and effort in any particular area where you have expertise, are doing so, we have to evaluate the logic of the argument that it is wrong for a coach to get paid, or the argument that only those volunteering their time love the sport. I just don’t think those arguments hold water.
Now if a club can find all of that expertise, can find all of that wealth of knowledge in someone who is volunteering their time and money then fine, that is a perfect road, but I would personally, never begrudge anyone for making a little money for the work they do.
CHARLES KING I NEVER IN THE PAST TAKEN THE TIME TO REPLY TO THE FORUM. BUT, I HAD TO REPLY TO YOUR POST. I MOVED MY SON AT THE START OF THIS YEAR TO BOO'S SCHOOL. WE CAME FROM DERBY CLUB WHICH HE WRESTLED THERE FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS AND I WAS EVEN A BOARD MEMBER BEFORE LEAVING. THE DERBY CLUB I KNOW FOR A FACT PAYS THEIR COACHES AND PAYS THEIR EXPENSES. DERBY'S WRESTLERS
FEES THAT THEY CHARGE THE PARENTS ARE FAR MORE MONEY THEN BOO'S SCHOOL AND BOO'S SCHOOL FEES INCLUDE ENTRY TO 8 TOURNAMENTS. I ALSO KNOW FOR A FACT BOO WAS OFFERED WHAT I FELL A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO COACH A COUPLE OF TEAMS AND HE REFUSED BECAUSE HE DOSEN'T WANT TO GO TO LARGE TEAM WHERE HE CAN'T GIVE THE KIDS ON HIS TEAM ALL HIS ONE ON ONE ATTENTION AND WITH A LARGE GROUP OF KIDS YOU CAN'T DO THIS. BOO EXPECTS ALL HIS KIDS ON TEAM TO BE STATE CHAMPIONS BECAUSE HE GIVES HIS ALL TO HIS KIDS ON THE TEAM. YOU CAN NOT SAY ITS ABOUT THE MONEY. BOO SPENDS MONEY OUT OF HIS OWN POCKETS FOR THE KIDS ON HIS TEAM. BOO DOSEN'T TRY TO GET MORE WRESTLERS HE LIMITS HIS CLUB TO AROUND 25 WRESTLERS. IN CLOSING I ONLY WISH MY KID HAD WRESTLE FOR BOO THE LAST 8 YEARS. LARRY GREIDER
PROUD BOO'S SCHOOL DAD
okay... This post I started was an innocent inquiry to a club that had talked to my son. Boo Dryden (i believe) left him his phone number if he was interested. Now as far as loyalty goes.. I have nothing but the upmost respect for our coach he IS the BEST! My son is simply looking for someone to wrestle with once our season is done with! He wants to wrestle ALL year long, and not just 'till the summer! We will always be loyal to Newton!
I think the vast majority of you are insane. I am in particular talking about this post. Does no one understand that kids wrestling is about building your LOCAL high school program?? Why is there no loyalty to your home town?
Mr Roberson,
In a perfect world, our kids would all be wrestling for the hometown club. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way.
As far as loyalty, I can tell you that there is nothing but loyalty when it comes to supporting your local Jr High and High School wrestling team, no matter where they wrestled (or still wrestle) in their youth programs. Case in point, my son wrestled his first year of Jr High and his team had a very good year, to include winning the city championships (four Jr High Schools here in Lawrence). The kids that wrestled on this team came from at least three different youth programs, two of which are outside the city limits.
My son (sorry Beeson, but I can't help to live vicariously through my son) has become very close to his Jr High teammates. When we go to tournaments this year, he spends more time with these kids than he does with the kids in our program which he has now been part of for five years.
You are definitely on point when you say that Kids' wrestling is about building a good High School program. In our situation, it just happens that a number of these kids will have spent a majority of their youth wrestling years outside the city limits.
Oh, and I almost forgot, anyone who has a kid wrestling is certifiably insane, so you were on point with that comment as well.
to everybody who responded to this post. my name is charles king/wichita aztecas. I was wrong making judgements about boo,s club. i do not know any of them. i had no right to post what i did. i have had a very rough year trying to re-establish a club. all my kids are basically novice kids. my hat is off to you jesse and boo. i was just upset that you wouldn't help me work out a couple of kids back in december when i didn't have south high. so to you guys who took offence to my post, i apologize. i was wrong and it won't happen again.
my name is rocky villarreal. i am the owner and director of the wichita aztecas wrestling club. this is the first time i have been on this forum. charles king has caused quiet an uproar, he text me about 1:30 am to tell me he had said things he shouldnt have. in the 5 yrs i have been involved with usa wrestling(north warriors, wichita aztecs) i have never had to write a post on here. now what charles said was wrong, and he will get a phone call from me because i dont allow my players or coachs to talk trash. charles did what i am sure we have all done one time or another, and that is open our mouths before our brain kicks in. if anyone he offended needs to further discuss this with me you can reach me at 316-204-1223 or email me at azteccoach36@live.com i would like to apologize for the way my coach represented the aztec wrestling club
