I been wrestling since I was 4 yrs old and now I'm 19 and I just notice last year the they don't have a 6 U at so I was just wondering why they don't have 6 Under for Kansas Kids State Folkstyle Championships?

Short answer, No Room. Ottawa puts on a wonderful 6U State Championship Tournament.

watchout for Isaiah Gitrich 6u 73 pounds, he's only lost one time this year, except for the two times he wrestled in the hutch tournament where he was in 8u 73 pounds and he came in third, tough kid and alot of heart

what club is Isaiah Gitrich from? i think my son has wrestled him this year! just dont remember when or where! My son is in the 70 lb weight class but if he keeps eating like he has in the past week he might be wrestling in the 73 lb class smile

yup, thought so,, my son wrestled him at the Takedown at the begining of the year, i thought he might have wrestled him twice this season, but i guess not!, goodluck Isaiah!! We will see ya there!

Sorry Chad,
I have to disagree, they have the room, leave out the high school division. These 6u wrestled their butts off all year, just to go to another GYM, which IMOP is a cluster, too many parents matside, not enough seating, and huge brackets.

Yes this will bring up all the past debates but what is kids club for, kids or high schoolers.

Went to the state meet this weekend and saw alot of great matches. Now if some of the matches I saw turn out differently at kids state who do call the state champ?

Give the LITTLE guys their shot of the big dance! When they get to high school they will have their shot also.

Well stated Spexy.....

I agree with Spexy,, nothing would make my son more happy than to wrestle with his teamates at state!!!! he is VERY much about the TEAM ! hopefully by the time my 4 yr old starts wrestling they change it

Renee Burdock & Ottawa put on a great 6u state! Our family went to it 3 times it is a fun well run tournament. If a wrestler wins ottawa HE IS STATE CHAMPION. The brackets are tough my son had 21 kids in his bracket at 61 lbs three years ago. Go to ottawa & be ready the best 6 & unders in kansas will be there---good luck.

we were there last year.. it was Awesome, they did a good job, im not saying I want my son to go to topeka because Ottawa cant put on a good State tournament,, im just saying my boy would like to be wrestling for a state title with his teammates! thats All,, but ya Ottawa does do a good job

My son is in his first year wretling this year at 6under 49#. His record is 21-2 do you think with this being his first real year he would have a shot against the talent out east?

Were these novice tournaments or open tournaments?

Either way you should take him. It is a great atmosphere that is directed solely at the young ones. But expect big brackets. Last year I think there were 51 kids in my sons 46 lb. bracket. We wrestled 8 times that day. At the end they line them up outside the gym, turn off the lights and blair the music as the kids enter the gymnasium. They walk across the mat when they are introduced and shake the kid of who they are going to wrestle for 1st-6th place. If that don't get the kids and parents pumped up, I don't know what will. We will be there on the 21st.

Pappan is the boy to beat,A national champion , i don't think he's been beat @ 49 , Joint also pretty good and then Bowen if i can get him 2 focus is also not to bad. There might be some 52# that are pretty decent drop down also.

They were all open tournaments. Sounds like an exciting time for everyone... Thanks for the advice!
Posted By: Bones1768 Re: 6 U for state - 03/01/10 09:23 PM
If he was 21-2 in open tournaments you should definately go.

Did you have a chance to wrestle at Salina, Derby, Maize or Haysville?

These were just some of the bigger tournaments this year.
How did you place at these tournaments?

Better make hotel plans, because when I called one hotel today (Super 8) they had no more rooms with two beds left. I had to spend more money, because I didn't book them last week. Made momma not very happy!!!!!!!

Hey dad2323, definately take him to Ottawa. We went two years ago and it was awesome. Over 500 6 and under wrestlers and think we were out of there by around 4pm. After the medal match.
Posted By: Bowen Re: 6 U for state - 03/02/10 09:00 PM
I would take him its great experience, expect huge brackets and a long day,but great competition. Bowen will also do both ,as i expect many will be!
