It's a rule that you must match up the seeds. EX: Dist 2 #1 Vs Dist 1 #4. If Dist 1 didn't have a 4th place kid due to lack of entries at that weight, then the Dist 2 kid would get a bye. And if that happens a couple of times throughout the bracket, you may see a kid get 2 byes even though there are other kids who wrestle from the very first round. FAIR? Not really. THE RULE? Yes, as I understand it.
Because their seeds in the State tournament are decided by their placings at District. If there isn't enough wrestlers they look like this bracket. Doesn't look right, but that's how it has to be.
I edited the bracket to remove the Liberal bye/bye wrestler. It pushes Tylen Wallace to the semi-finals.
Not what you wanted to see, but the bracket looks cleaner.

This rule needs to be amended!
In cases like this just reseed it into an 8 man bracket.
One kid would have to wrestle 4 matches to get whe the two bottom kids are after their 1st match.
When you are in a qualifying series the failure to send qualifiers or fill is basically a forfeit. There should not be any rebracketing done at the district tournament. If there are scratches they are just forfeits. No four man round robins. Nothing changes.
I can't imagine how you would re-seed a bracket for state without one or more wrestler/coach/team thinking they got the shaft for some reason.
We should do things just like they are done at the high school level, if one half of a bracket forfeits, or any variation of the same, that's just the luck of the draw.
There is no understanding KS wrestling. The people are so old fashioned. They dont understand how to bracket os amend the politics of a rule.
BLT,
Please feel free to send me a rule recommedation by July 31st, 2010. I will make sure the rules committee and the council will take a look at.
