Kansas Wrestling
I know that this is posted on the schedule, however, what is not posted on the schedule is the fact that we are splitting the Novice onto Sunday Dec. 19th to accomodate our facility a little better. I have been advised that we will need to sanction the Novice as a separate tournament (for insurance reasons so I am told) and that paperwork is in process.

Another note and change for the tournament(s) this year we are holding a Friday night ONLY weigh-in for the Open and a Saturday afternoon ONLY weigh-in for the Novice. If there is anyone that is interested in hosting a remote site weigh-in on Friday, December 17th please contact me as soon as possible at derbyjrwrestling@cox.net

I will have the flyers out for both Open and Novice divisions in the next couple of days. In the meantime we are using trackwrestling and using their pre-registration which can be found at http://www.trackwrestling.com/registration/BasicPreReg1.jsp?tournamentGroupId=1505009

Winfield will host satelite weigh-in.

I sent you PM with my contact info.
So far with Satellite Weigh-in locations I have received responses from Salina, Garden City, Winfield, and Maize. I will post details on all locations, times, etc. once these are all confirmed.

Thank you to those clubs that are stepping up and helping out and know that Derby most likely will host any remote weigh-in when asked upon.
Confirmed Satellite weigh-in locations:

Maize
Winfield
Jackson County - Holton

I have had several emails and calls regarding other satellite locations for weigh-ins. I think in these rough economic times, if we can save a few dollars here and there for people the better it is for the community as a whole. As for having only a friday night weigh-in I believe that will help to streamline the running of the tournament with the use of trackwrestling. Gone are the days of being at a tournament from 6 am to 10 pm and having only wrestled 3 or 4 times like i heard it was like in the "olden days" (thank goodness)

Now all we have to hope is that the weather is favorable, if only the wethermen could actually forecast the weather with 100% accuracy...
Why would you not have a saturday weigh in for kids wrestling in the afternoon session if you are concerned in saving people money during these rough economic times. This is forcing people to come to Derby on Friday night just to get weighed and then having to spend money on a motel and extra meals!
I believe what Mr. Gash is saying is that having more Satellite locations would save the families money and time from having to drive to Derby just for Weigh ins. Having only Friday night weigh ins will help in starting the tournament on time.
I think satellite weigh ins and friday nite only ways ins are the future trends of KS wrestling. I wish a few more tournaments would pick up on it as well!
But your also in that boat where you cant please everyone!

I think getting the weigh ins out of the way and starting on time is very important. Even when using track wrestling if you run saturday weigh ins and then try to print everything on time its still almost impossible.

Im looking forward to Derby this year. The competition is what brings everyone back and it looks like they made great changes to address all the major concerns they have had over the last few years so congrats to you Mr Gash and to all of the DWC!!

So according to the flyer Derby will be using digital scales and not watching the tenths? So 58.9 wrestles 58 and so on?
Just to clarify. There will be no weight allowance given for wrestlers in the Open Division. The allowance will be given only to the Novice wrestlers wrestling on Sunday. If anyone has any questions please contact me and I will try my best to answer the questions.

So there won't be any novice allowed satellite weigh ins?

Giving the allowance for the novice shouldn't they be able to weigh in on Friday?

I know that is early but the intention is to save travel correct.

Maybe I am missing something.

I cannot bend the rules...rule 4-5-3 which states "No weigh-in shall be prior to twenty four (24) hours before the published tournament start time."

Therefore, novice on Sunday are unable to weigh-in on Friday night to be within the rule.

However, I am not opposed to having satellite weigh-ins for the novice division if anyone wishes to host a satellite weigh-in on Saturday let me know and we can get it set up. Email me at derbyjrwrestling@cox.net

Will the grade level have anything to do with bracketing? I didn't fill that info in when I updated my roster, and had to guess on a few kids. My wife informed me this morning that I was wrong on a few.
I understand the rule and it's intent, that all makes perfect sense.

I think you are missing the boat on not allowing Sunday weigh in for the novice.

New parent/wrestlers and they are having no choice but to drive to Debry twice.

That is pretty rediculous to ask of a new parent.
I am putting this out there, since there is a lot of discussion about this and is actually causing a bit of dissention among people.

For NOVICE only, I have decided to allow the Clubs to perform a "home weigh-in" with the following stipulations. 1. Must be performed by a club certified coach and 2. Need to have the weigh-in results emailed to me no later than 9pm on Saturday December 18th. I believe that this will help out people so that they don't feel the need to drive to Derby 2x in one weekend for their novice wrestler. With the price of gas the more we can do to save on fuel costs the better.

Great decision!
Will Buhler or any other teams near Hutch be doing satellite weigh-in Friday? Thanks
Hutch has been working on setting it up, I haven't heard the details yet.

I think they are close to getting it done.
Was just wondering if there was anymore on Hutch hosting Satellite weigh ins ? If ,so can get some info on the place were they will be held?
YES! Hutch was able to get the High School wrestling room for a remote weigh-in tonight, just got the word from them, thus my excitement.
That is just great to here!!!! i know there will be a lot of happy people...
