I am on this forum to start a postive post about TEAM OF Hard Knox. This post is just for postives for TOHK. I am painting thoughts. I will start with this my greatest atribute I am a child of God. In wrestling our ninth guy sign a division I scholarship. This post is design for only postive thoughts even if they only come from our members or me. If you are not a member please feel free to comment.
TOHK is positively one of the toughest team in KS. if we lived near wichita we would practice with coach knox and crew.
I have great respect for TOHK, they are tough and well trained! We would also practice with them if we were in the area. Keep up the good work TOHK!!!
Positively love the way you guys conducted yourselves at highschool state. Positively loved the chants and jeers toward our team. Positively loved being stared at and pointed at. Way to stay positive and help out that negative image that you are "trying" to change. Mike Pirl
I like the way you keep the forums interesting ?
Kinda odd to solicit favor ? maybe just me, im kinda odd myself
its like playing a self help tape " I am somebody, I am great, everybody loves me " kinda thing.
Come on if you can't say anything postive about TOHK start your on post. Or put in my private box. Misery likes Misery.

Give it a rest no section cheered louder than yours when Scoot Deshazer lost, your fans were as vocal as any til you knew Heights had the title.

Your a good man coach Knox. And know matter what you might think about me we will always difend hard knox. We know better than most what goes on in your room its a good hard workout with lots of knowledgable coaches. Keep doing what you do. Belive it or not we are still big fans of hard knox. It was a good nine years. See ya at the next tournament.....
Coach Knox - ran a free style clinic up in Valley Center last summer. Top notch coaching and he may have got a couple of young converts to the free style arena!! Skill & encouragement from Coach Knox was the key.
Coach Taylor - At the Valley Center tournament, I came off the mat with a first year U6. Coach Taylor was on the hard wood floor on his (est 60 yr ??) knees working with one of his kids on a stand up. I was giving sage advise on the stand up to my wrestler who was not really listening and nodded to Coach Taylor. He smiled, grabbed my Valley Center kid, put him next to his TOHK kid and they worked on the stand up together for about 10 minutes. He was chewing on them hard to get it right with a big smile when they made progress.
This was mid-afternoon, my knees hurt and here was Coach Taylor on his (old than mine) knees coaching his kid and a Valley Center kid because he saw my kid was watching what he was saying went to work with him. It reminded me of one of my favorite childhood martial arts coaches...I had not thought of him in a while. THANKS.

OK OK OK, I could choose to say nothing or say something positive as you posted earlier. I think I see where your coming from, so I did some research.
I will say this, your club has endured and come through some rough roads. Sometimes when all the controversy never seems to stop or give you a break it can seem overwhelming to anyone. This tends to give most a little thicker hide and would make any of us more defensive. TOHK provides an outlet and alternative for a lot of youths that may find other ways to spend idle time.
I went back and found articles from Furches family ministries and the bottom line I got is, TOHK really does care about youth, youth wrestling and involving Christ in what they do. Does this mean they are perfect... ahh no. BUT I believe the effort and heart is in the right place.
Coach Knox, I am proud to say that I wrestled for you. Your program came along at a tough time in my life and taught me lessons of toughness, hard work, and determination. Not only was I a State Champion because of you...I am a college graduate, wrestling coach, and official. You inspire me to stay in this sport.
Coach Taylor, you are the man!!!! I am 32 years old now and have been in your company since I was 8. I can honestly say that between you and your wife I always felt welcome. You always showed interest in how my brother and I were. For that I am eternally greatful. Even if you think I don't see locked hands when I should
Thank you both for teaching me lessons of life and wrestling!!!!! Doug Mitchell
Coach,
My best memories of you and your guys are not the DI kids you have produced or the time and effort you dedicated to cadet duals and freestyle and greco. It is of seeing you, like I did, hauling a boatload young kids every week to tournaments. Exposing them to a great sport where the lesson is the harder you work, the better you get. It is seeing you take the time to encourage those borderline kids who may not have the god given athletic ability, it is encouraging young officials...keep it up Charlie...people often mistake passion for other things...it is exactly what we need more of.
I really don't know why anyone would have a problem with anybody from the team of hard rock. There coaches and wrestlers always seem to behave perfectly well. I think they were at several tournaments in kc area this year and I didn't see any issues. I really don't know why there coach has to defend them when they run a good team.
I know I was very impressed when Charlie and at least a half-dozen of his wrestlers came and sat down by my family at a Thunder hockey game a couple of weeks back. Here he was sharing a local sporting event on a Friday night with these boys. He thoughtfully apologized to us and corrected them when they kept going in and out of the seats, which was no big deal to us.
I coach two other kid sports and admit I have never taken a group of my players to some other event.
As a kid, I would always see this guy running down the street, not knowig where he was going. One day I started running behind him and asked what he was doing or where he was going. He told me he was jogging and then just took off. I ran behind him for what I thought was 10 miles but was only 2. I then started wrestling for Coach Knox soon after with the Wichta West Wrestling Club during the 1988-1989 season.
Coach Knox has been there as a father figure and a friend for over 20 years. He drove all the way to Lincoln Nebraska on this own dime to support the State of Kansas but especially Nathan Bumphus and Myself. That year I took 8th in Cadet Greco Roman and Nate took 7th in Greco and 8th in Freestyle. He was also there to support me when I won my High School State Title in 1996. And,with the years of incouragment I finished my 4yr degree at Wichita State last year and Coach took off work and was there to watch me walk across the stage. Thanks CK for everything.
I know it has been a hard battle over the years and I know the "solict" is not for you but for us! People will always hate the dedication you give for they will never be able to stand taller than you and I think you a little over 5 feet tall(lol, had to get that in. lol!)
Oh yea, Team of Hard Knox Oklahoma coming soon!!!!
Oh yea, Team of Hard Knox Oklahoma coming soon!!!!
So the rumor that Charlie is starting a club in Guymon has legs?
Charlie, Please bring back the hair and the hats.
Coach Knox I for one appreciate the time you give not only to TOHK but to the Freestyle and Greco teams you also coach. You may not hear this enough, so THANK YOU for being a positive roll model for the youth that have had the honor to wrestle for you.

Good club, good wrestlers, Charlie is a good guy, But a couple of the coaches on that team are idiots that give the entire club a bad name
But a couple of the coaches on that team are idiots that give the entire club a bad name
i'm sure that statement can be said about every club in the state. for that matter every club in the nation.
There is no doubt that Coach Knox loves kids and does a lot for Kansas Wrestling. Thanks for all you do!
But a couple of the coaches on that team are idiots that give the entire club a bad name

Yes I see not very knowledgable coaches/parents in almost every club .. it comes along with kids wrestling
Coach Knox, coach Gaylon, coach Taylor, are all good men with big hearts surly when you say idiots you can't be referring to them.
Coach Knox, coach Gaylon, coach Taylor, are all good men with big hearts surly when you say idiots you can't be referring to them.
i'm sure that's not who rassler was referring to.
Okay....I'm not here bashing TOHK but I would like to remind you of e statement you made just minutes before you started this post. You were on the forum "t.person" thread and LITERALLY threatened the person who wrote the comment. I found it veery ironic that you would talk about God etc but in the same breath type "anyone who is talking bad a bout TOHK I will find you, hunt you down....etc" also reeatening to find anyone on facebook etc....kind of ironic really....
Also I would like to add that your team has been involved in LOTS of "fights at tourneys. I suppose I should not reference your entire team as that is Not fair but maybe you should start from the ground up, Charlie, and get your parents and a few of your coaches in check before you get frustrated with the artwork your associated club members are painting.....it's not all bright and whimsy by any means.....
Coach Knox, coach Gaylon, coach Taylor, are all good men with big hearts surly when you say idiots you can't be referring to them.
i'm sure that's not who rassler was referring to.that's who the coaches are
Who was the coach who gave the finger to the whole crowd at state? Both hands wavin in the air. I believe that would rub people the wrong way(just one example I can name more). From what i've seen Charlie is a stand up guy who knows the sport of wrestling from top to bottom. I would let him coach my kid in a moment. I just don't understand why he lets people bring down his good name with these kind of actions.my question is,"Mr.Knox why do you let this happen? Your too good to be surrounded by certain people who tarnish your clubs name."
CRB's Dad....I saw the same thing....as did my 10 year old son!!! Those are the things that people,in general, will always associate a club with. Another example was at Salina when a lady was sitting with a sleeping baby trying to watch a match her son was in and asked 2 TOHK associates to please sit or move. The man began yelling at her while her child was asleep and two other of here children were standing there listening. The man continued his rant and backlash at is lady until the match was over. The lady missed her Childs match and was frustrated but kept her cool. Actually there were two other people at stepped up and told that man what they thought as well....sad really. But I cannot think for one second these stories do not come up at almost every tourney. Shall we begin discussing the Derby novice tourney as well. Make su your laundry is clean before you try to forcibly tell people how things are....maybe a softer approach is warranted from your team....."don't hate the opinions your team has helped develop....hate the sport.....quit wrestling" sund familiar?
This post was designed for positive comments. Please. If you want to do other wise. Please start your own post.
Thank you,
Coach Gaylen

I think it is hard to have a one sided post.It is a strage post.If mr. Knox would have stated what he talked with and fixed in side his club.I bet he would have goten a lot more people saying that it was good.
Pride is something that gets overwelming some times. In every goup and club.Every club there is has people that should not be there on the mat with kids.It is the deal that NO one wants to fix it.No one wants to rock the boat they are in but sink the boat that is beside them. How can we teach the kids right if the coaches do it roung.
I say let them have this post and keep the negative comments away...
This may be the 1st step towards change. Many people say they would like to see a change. So let them try! This is a positive post about this club. Everyone says they respect the man well then respect his post!
BLT I say take this post off of here and have TOHK change their image on the mat instead of a talk forum!!!
Goat10 & gsmom,
How do u know what T.O.H.K. has done to improve things within the club? Charlie is constantly working to improve the clubs image and be a positive role model to kids. He wanted to start a positive thread pertaining to the club, and u guys hijack it and post negative comments without having the guts to post your names. You are probably among the same anonymous people that like to cheer as loud as u can whenever one of our wrestlers loses and then can't understand why on earth our coaches react negatively. If you want to be negative start your own thread, but remember the forum rules about posting your real names to them.
Jason Murdock
coach knox, coach taylor and coach gaylon are all good guys but the two brothers who coach, yes they are very good coaches but they act like total jack asses 95% of the time, everyone knows who they are including coach knox, coach gaylon and coach taylor, so if you want to hear the good you also have to take the bad. if you want to change your image you have to get those two idiots under control.
First of all when was the last time that you saw either of the brothers you speak of coaching at a tournament? Second you must have some character issues yourself to come on a talk forum and curse and call people names without being man enough to leave yours. Coach Knox asked only for positive comments, because we get to see the anonymous negative comments all the time, sit back and give the man a chance to show what he is trying to do. Quit living in the past..
Jason Murdock
I did not curse jackass is not a curse word and I called no one out by name, Hard knox needs to show positive change at tournaments instaead of putting a post on here to get an aata boy and a pat on the back. He let those two coaches drag his club through the gutter for years and he did nothing, so he needs to stand back a prove to the wrestling community that his club has indeed changed because peoples opinions are not going to change overnight, his club will be judged by their actions not by this self serving post.
Then why don't you stand back and keep your comments to yourself and give him a chance to do so. If it makes you feel like less of coward by saying you didn't call any out by name then so be it. It still doesn't change the fact you posted derogatory remarks about individuals on here without the decency to post your name.
Jason Murdock
and who are you charlies hired gun, no matter what this team does you are always the first one on here telling everyone how great they are, where were you when he let his coaches act like idiots , or were you part of the problem too?
My son wrestled for this club and I coached for this club. I defend this club because I have seen firsthand the kind of positive impact they have on young men and the passion and dedication they have for coaching these kids. Not a hired gun by any means just a man not afraid to voice his opinion and leave his name when he does it.

Who are you to say what should be on here or not. Listen, I have had my beefs with these guys as much (if not more) then the next guy. But I will never fault someone for trying to move in the right direction.
Let them have their post. Then if things don't change then what are you really out?? Having to over look a post everyday????
I just hope everyone sees that no one can get on here and argue the caliber of wrestlers that have come out of that club. The standard of wrestling ig great, and if the reputation and ever catch that standard... WOW
Why would anyone want to stand in the way of them even trying.
I have had my fair share of run ins with a few people with TOHK but there is one thing for sure Charlie always does what he can for the community and for the kids. A lot of people see them as being loud and always being rude. I see them as being passionate. Yes they tend to get out of hand and some of it has been handled.
I have yet to see MRS. Taylor at a tournament that she hasn't asked me how my son is doing with a smile. And if you would tell her that my son got 2nd this weekend.
I was one of the ones that was glad to see that Goddard wouldn't let them in their tournament. Now that I have got to know more than just the loud ones I have realized what some of the people at TOHK have done for the community and for some wrestlers that wouldn't have got to go college without the guidance of that crew. And for that you have my up most respect. Just remember this is all for the future of the kids and not for the heat of the moment.
Coach Knox,
I learned many things in my time as a wrestler with you, Coach Taylor, Coach Rich, Coach Fox, and others as my coaches. Most of what I learned was not about wrestling, but about life. I learned that if I am going to do something I must do it 100% all of the time and that quitting is not an option. I learned that it does not matter what challenge lies ahead I must embrace it as it will make me a better individual. I learned that in order to be successful it takes commitment, but more importantly it takes hard-work as nothing will be handed to me free. Out of all the life-lessons I learned there is one that will always stick with me and that is devotion. You have always been to devoted to providing kids with an opportunity to exceed in wrestling and in life. This devotion has propelled many kids without futures to success in life. I remember all of the times you picked kids up before practice or tournaments and dropped them off when done. I have never seen you quit on any kid regardless of race, color, or creed. Thank you for what you provided me and every other kid that has been blessed to pass through the mats of TOHK.
For those of you who criticize Coach Knox and his program I leave you with two thoughts.....1) When you sign up for the talk forum you agree to the following statement..."If you are going to post a message critical of an individual, group or idea, you must give your true name and/or email address. Be willing to stand behind your comments, or keep them to yourself." I have no problem with anyone expressing their opinion, but defend what you say an post your true name. Do not hide behind your forum name. 2) I am 33-years old and TOHK has been criticized for as long as I can remember. Yes, they have had some wrestlers and coaches that have shown poor sportsmanship, but I witness that every weekend from many programs throughout Kansas. I have seen wrestlers throw their headgear, refuse to shake hands, and throw complete fits and none of them were part of TOHK. I have seen coaches berate officials, shove other coaches, and berate wrestlers for poor performance and none of them were part of TOHK. I have witnessed parents make 6-year olds cry because they lost and blame officials for bad calls and yell at other fans and non of them were part of TOHK. The problems described with TOHK happen everywhere in wrestling yet no one discusses those issues. TOHK kids are well coached, dedicated, and wrestle hard. Along with their parents most of them have more heart and dedication to wrestling than most everyone else. Yes, they get emotional, but that is because of their desrie to succeed in wrestling. I wish everyone had that desire. Instead of criticizing try supporting them for a change. I have personally witnessed people say bad things about TOHK simply because they hear about from a fiend of a friend. Make an effort to get to know them and form you own opinion. There are some bad apples in most programs so do not hold the actions of a few against the entire team.

TOHK Alum!
@ Mr. Davis: You are correct when you point out the fact that Aunt Pam (Mrs. Taylor) is a caring individual.
It is important everyone understands that the family that runs TOHK are life savers to some. No matter what any one person says, it was Coach Taylor that would be up at 5am to pick kids up for high school morning practice. I wasn’t the only one they helped along the way and want to say that I am grateful for everything! I can not thank TOHK enough for giving me direction at an early age. I remember times when Danny Deshazer and Bryant Richards first went to Labette and thinking to myself, one day i'm going to go to college.
I am the first in my immediate family to go to college, for my mother painted the picture with a belt many times. It was the family of TOHK that helped me stay away from gangs through wrestling. Have I made mistakes growing up, you better believe it. But I can count on one hand the people from my neighbor that graduated from college and we all wrestled for Coach Knox and Coach Taylor at one part of our lives.
Some of the comments that have been posted are meaningless unless you leave a name. You are scared to do so for you could no longer be phony in their faces. I feel sorry for you for there is nothing more small than a coward. You fear "them" for you are beneath the greatness of TOHK. I pray that you allow your hearts to forgive because none of us are perfect (ex: the previous sentence was kind of negative.) When you allow yourself to step back from the aggression of wrestling then maybe you can get to know the Taylor, Knox, Carter, and Deshazer families. Wrestling is a tough sport, GO HARD OR GO HOME....
And please stop pointing out all of our negatives. Last year I coached and officiated in the Greater Wichita area and can honestly say that TOHK is not the only team that has faults. I enjoyed this post Coach Knox, Love you! Tim
As a coach in this area for many years I can say one thing for certain....TOHK always brings it. I may not always agree with the antics that happen off the mat, but those kids that are in the circle believe in what their coaches teach them. Coach Knox and his group have done a great thing for this community, and I salute them for it. Anyone who has been around any type of youth sport knows the one unpredictable aspect is the parents/coaches. If Coach Knox says he has, and is continuing to take steps to curb that, then his word is good enough for me.

As it is always said the bad out weighs the good. Bad sportsmanship is noticed before good sportsmanship. A wrestler showing bad sportsmanship on the mat will be given more attention by the crowd than a wrestler presenting good sportsmanship on the mat. It is the nature of the beast. The same is said about the coaches that represent the wrestling clubs that they coach for. A coach that runs half way across a mat yelling and screaming, while the match is in progress I might add, disputing a call that they have question with shows great disrespect to the refs and to the other coaches on the mat. WHY NOT TRY AND RESERVE YOUR SELF AND SHOW THE SELF CONTROL THAT EVERYONE SAYS THAT THEY TEACH TO THEIR WRESTLERS AND CHILDREN WIN OR LOSE. Lord knows I try my fatherly best with my 5 year old. There are breaks in the wrestling action to question a refs call in a manner that is respectfull to everyone on the mat. Not every 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 to 25 to so on and so on seconds during the wrestling match to question every call that does not go your way. To the coaches, parents, and wrestlers: The screaming, yelling, and tantrums on the mat will always bring a disapproval rating to you from the people in the stands and to the other coaches and wrestlers on the mat. IT IS A FACT OF LIFE!!!!!
Charles Knox and the Taylor's (Kenny and Pam) have each dedicated over twenty (20) years to improving the lives of our youth by providing them the opportunity to wrestle.
Thank you Kenny and Pam for also providing the wrestling community with a fine young official, Kenny Taylor, Jr. and an equally fine young coach, Gaylen Taylor.
I dont think we have any idiot coaches on our team some may not know as much about wrestling, But if a person deacates there time to help kids and trys to learn then i dont think their classified as an idiot, Our coaches care always have always will, Instead of calling us idiots how about maybe try to get to know us and if you know something we dont maybe you should tell us or teach us, I personally love to learn.
I would like to thank TOHK for all the great matches my sons have had with them over the last 7 years. I would also thank coaches & wrestlers for always being respectful at matside (win or lose).
Could not have said it better chad and tim like i said before in anothet form TOHK is more then a team we are a FAMILY... I know personally that all the wrestlers that have been apart of this team has learned alot about not only wrestling but about life. Everything the coaches have ever told us was and is 100% correct thank you to all my coaches and parents for helping prepare me for life. I personally had a baby in high school and got married while a junior, and though i didnt go to college, I own my home have a business have three beautiful kids and is still with my beautiful wife.I thank God for moving me here to kansas from new york and blessing me with the oppertunity of being a TOHK family member as well as everything i have. Thank you God. With that said i know i am not perfect in anyway and im one of those guys that if someone attacks me or my family i attack back and something like a hot head but over the years GOD as been helping me to work on that and iam thankfull for that. Positive thought bring positive reaction, something ive been trying to work on for awhile, I Love you TOHK family....
I have seen your team wrestle but have never talked to any of your kids or coaches, but if my son had the chance to spend some time learning for you I would let him.
i grew up wrestling against some of your boys and i will say i respect the toughness they always brought to the mat. I have also went to school with your son and he was a friend of mine for the short time i went to West High. Yes there are some incidents that i have personally witnessed that i dont respect but everyone has there moments. Lets just try to move on and look forward to the future.
I myself have had no prior wrestling exp. till my 7 yr old started this year. My son and my entire family as well as myself had the time of our lives this season. Jacob (my son)had a good year and when lost a certain match he showed bad sportsmanship by throwing gear and stomping off mat without shaking coaches hands. upsetting his coaches and myself rightfully so. But since that time he has acted better when loosing a match. I feel some people have giving up on him due to 1 mistake. From what i hear on this post is that no matter what these kids cannot feel that they can't move forward from a mistake. From what i hear on post the kids are what it is about. I have wittnessed some of the tohk attidude at numerous tourney's and know that not all were of their own actions but other having personal issues with them. But i don't believe they don't give up on any of thier kids. I truly hope my son wrestles next year. He truly feels for his team and teammates and loves their comradery? Thanks for inviting us to become part of your world Kansas Wrestling. Sorry if I got of subject. David Rymer
