The Jr. Viking Wrestling Club is trying to pull together a Novice tournament on Sunday, January 25. We would like to get some input from other area clubs as to whether an Open tournament would be supported on the same day. We have an excellent venue for a tournament at Topeka Seaman High School. However, a Saturday tournament is off the table at this time due to scheduling issues. I have been keeping an eye on the calendar and have not seen any tournaments in close proximity on Saturday, January 24. We just want to test the waters on this forum before we go through the efforts. You can respond to me off list at stanleymlne@aol.com. Thanks.

Mark that would be an excellent date. I'm going to be taking a small group to the Hard Knox tourney on Saturday. An open on Sunday would be excellent because we could get a feel of a two day tourney before state.

Mark,
I would support that. That weekend is open for us and having a Novice/Open on the same day would work. We have approx. 15-20 wrestlers.

The Gardner Edgerton wrestlers would be interested both novice and open. Estimating around 30 wrestlers or more.

Sounds great. It would be nice for some of the first year kids to get to see the advanced kids wrestle. Are you antipating one gym?

We would be using two large gyms that are side by side. We have one last hurdle to clear on December 8th. I believe our school board is going to give it a rubber stamp...but you never really know for sure until you have the signed paper in your hand. As soon as we have final approval I will sanction this tournament as a combined open and novice event. Our club is very excited about the opportunity to showcase our facilities. Thanks for all your responses on and off list. It makes our decision a little easier.

Our facilities have been secured and I am pleased to announce the Junior Viking Wrestling Club will be hosting a tournament on Sunday, January 25. We will have both OPEN and NOVICE brackets. A flyer can be found on the Calendar of Events link from the home page of this website. We will be accepting entries through January 19th. Entries will be limited to the first 400 open and first 200 novice participants. This is to avoid overcrowding and insure a positive experience for all. We encourage you to get your entries in early. If you have any questions I can be reached at the number below after 8pm. You can also leave me a message or email me at stanleymlne@aol.com.
