Ned Price did a great job of putting together a survey which was available throughout the Expo Center. If you have one then fill it out and get this information to Ned, the Graters, or Mike Juby. In order for changes to be made, the governing bodies need data to support the proposals.
Maybe Mike Juby can make the Survey available electronically, via PDF download, so that those who didn't fill one out can do so now and mail it in.
Overall the tournament was a great event but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't work to make it even better.
I agree that Ned Price did do a good job of putting the survey together. I think it is great when a State Officer formally asks us for our opinion. It is a great opportunity for us to express our wishes. Ned is asking us for feedback. If someone did not pick one up at State but would like to fill one out it would be pretty easy to do on your word processor and then send it to Ned. Basically here is what it asked for.
It asked for a rating of Excellent, Good, Fair, or Needs Improvement for each of the below categories:
1. Pre Tournament Information
2. Weigh-ins
3. Concessions
4. Opening Parade
5. Mat Set Up
6. Parade of Champions
7. Awards
8. Sub District
9. District
10.Location
After rating the above it asked for you to answer the following questions.
What I really like about the Tournament?
Suggestions for next year's Tournament?
How many years have you attended the State Tournament?
What District did you qualify from?
It instructed you to leave your e-mail address or phone number if you would like a response to your suggestions or questions.
It said to send your survey to Ned Price, 1017 N 3rd, Atchison KS 66002. Ned's address is listed on this site in the State Officer's Section.
I didn't get a chance to fill out the survey. The only thing I would add is a 10-15 minute warmup period for the wrestlers to prepare before the final matches. The wrestlers going for 1st have not wrestled all day and were told repeatedly to clear the mats. Even if they did get a small warmup in, they were in the parade for a good hour and had cooled down.
I have read two out of three boxes of survey's. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill one out. Please if you did not fill one out Vince did a nice job of laying it out in the above post. Mail it to me or email it to nprice@benedictine.edu. A small pet peeve of mine if you mark something that needs improvement please list a suggestion or two.
I plan on making a report to the tournament Committee, the State Board, I will pass on the necessary information to the Expo Center. I will also have a copy of the surveys at the next state meeting.
Once again thank you to everyone who helped make this year tournament run so smooth.
Ned
Ned,
I want to thank you again for giving us this opportunity to express our thoughts. I say again because my survey is already in the envelope and I expressed my appreciation to you on it. I just think this is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to have some potential for input in one of our organization's policies. I highly commend you and anyone else who thought of this survey.
I did my survey on Excel and I did offer suggestions on any of the categories that I marked as needs improvement. I even offered a suggestion on one that I marked as Good. Of course my forum buddies do not find that surprising realizing how long winded I am. My suggestion to people who did not offer suggestions on how to achieve the improvement on a category that you thought needed it would be to go ahead and send Ned a short letter with your suggestions. Ned is giving you a real opportunity to do that so please take advantage of it.
Ned one suggestion that I did not put in my survey that I would like for you to take to the State Board meeting is for the State Board to put out a similar survey a couple of weeks before Subs that would be distributed by the clubs. This survey could give individuals the opportunity to voice their feedback on the organization, the season, tournaments etc.. It might be too late to do that now, but maybe it could still be done even this season, possibly via a forum transmittal of the survey like I did above. It really might not be a bad idea to have such a survey for individual tournaments and even clubs. It can be a great way to learn what people are thinking about something and how you might be able to improve your organization. Many successful entities use surveys to improve.
Very good idea and job, Ned.
