This year Kansas USA Wrestling will host the official 6U State Tournament. Kansas boasts more than 2,000 USA Card buyers in this age group. We would like to see as many of these wrestlers as possible show up in Salina the weekend of February 22nd. First to watch the 4A state tournament and then to compete on Sunday to see who the best six year olds are in their respective weight class. Custom belts will be awarded to each champion and medals to 2nd through 6th placers. We will award and OW medal as well as medal for most falls, least time. We will seperate wrestlers entered from the same club and that will be the ONLY seeding criteria.
This arena will be spacious enough for us to lay down 8 full size mats. No doubt there will be some very large brackets which may lead to the need for a qualifying series in the future.
Parents, put this event on your calendar. Take your little wrestlers to watch the HS finals on Saturday night and then bring them back on Sunday to battle for a belt!

When will you have a flyer made up that I can post in the wrestling room?
More details will be posted each week. We are locking in a host hotel where weigh ins will be conducted. The tournament will be managed on trackwrestling.com.
HOST HOTEL INFORMATION:
Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, 2760 S 9th St. Salina, KS 67401 p: +1 (785) 827-1271
$79 Saturday night rate – reserve room and mention 6U State Wrestling
Saturday night weigh ins will be conducted at this facility.
We would like to encourage all 6U wrestlers and families to attend the KSHSAA 4A State tournament before weigh in. Let the little guys see what the ultimate Kansas wrestling goal is all about.
The question has been asked: "If you wrestle in the Salina 6U State tounament can you still wrestle in 8U in the Kansas Kids State Tournament?"
If you participate in this event it does NOT prevent you from wrestling 8U in the USAW Kansas Kids State series.
Who are some of the litte hammers in 6U? What names should we be watching for at each weight?
Another question: "Do you have to qualify for this tournament?"
I am assuming this refers to a DIstrict or Sub District qualifying event. The answer is NO. It is OPEN to ALL 6U Kansas wreslters. Undoubtedly there will be some big brackets. We will be offering eight full size mats, plenty of seating, and no charge for a coach pass (must have a valid USA Wrestling Coach Card and a USA Wrestling Bronze Certification).
Do coaches have to pay $5.00 to get in?

We will waive admission for those who have a current USA Coach Card and a Bronze Card.
There are ALOT of complaints about how the Bi-Centinial staff and security treated parents this year at the Salina TOC. Have these issues been brought up to the Staff in Salina? I would hate for the First 6U State Tournament hosted by Kansas USA Wrestling to be a bad experience.

James Cook and I are setting up a call with the events director, Chris Bird. We will address all of the concerns that have been passed along to us.
I would encourage all of the wrestling advocates out there to email your concerns and suggestions to Mr. Bird. He needs to understand that their policies are unacceptable. Cbird@bicentennialcenter.com
QUESTION: I know in the past they have allowed a 1 pound weight allowance for wrestlers who compete in a tournament the day before 6 & Under state. Is this policy going to be in place this year?
Thanks!

We will NOT be giving any weight allowance but we will allow wrestlers to bump up one weight class if they do not make weight. This change will be free of charge.
I see where you will waive the fee for coaches that have a bronze and a current wrestling card. Does that mean you must have those two cards to coach from mat side?
Any idea on whether or not the Bi-Center will be able to fix the wifi issue in time for 6u State? I'd really hate to see the first 6u State Championships not posted on Track.
if the ToC was any indication 6u State should have some awesome competition!

I know KSHAA has been working on an internet solution for the 4a state tournament held the 2 days before this one. I'd suspect this one will use the same or something similar so it can/will support trackwrestling.

Yes, this is the same requirement you will have to meet in order to coach at sub districts, districts and state in the USAW Kansas Kids State series.
Be sure to make your hotel reservations soon as hotel space will be limited with some carryover from HS State.
We have over 200 6U kids wrestling this weekend at St. James. I am expecting 500 wrestlers in Salina so please make your hotel reservations now!
Volunteers need to help with the Kansas Six and Under State in Salina on February 24.
I need table worker to run mat side trackwrestling for this event. I would like to run it in two different shifts. Shifts are from 8:45 to 1 pm and 1 pm to done. We are hoping to be done by 6 pm.
We will waive the admission fee and will feed you that day for your help.
Please email me at ksmsdt@cox.net or call me at 785-212-0605
THERE WILL BE NO WEIGHT ALLOWANCE. YOU MUST MAKE SCRATCH WEIGHT WITH YOUR SINGLET ON.
We will be checking nails and skin. If you need a doctor's release, please have it with you.
Question: "If my wrestler doesn't make weight, will you allow a change in weight class?"
Answer: "Absolutely!! We will not turn any wrestlers away unless they have a communicable skin disease! A wrestler will be put in the appropriate weight class upon weigh in, no penalty."

I usually only have a handful signed up with eight days left to sign up. I think we are going to hit the 500 mark. Should be a fun day!! There is the potential for some really big brackets. Last weekend we had a 6U weight class with 30 participants!

We will NOT be combining weight classes.
I had a couple questions:
1. Are you only letting the kids that wrestle on Saturday bummp a weight class or will everyone be able to do this?
2. Will they be wrestling on full mats?
I had a couple questions:

2. Will they be wrestling on full mats?
1. ALL kids will wrestle. Whatever they weigh they will wrestle. In other words, if you signed up for 52 and you weight 55 you will wrestle 55. We will not be eliminating anyone for not making their registered weight.
2. We will have five full size mats. Depending on numbers we may use 1/2 mats but mat 1 will remain full regardless and ALL finals will be routed to mat 1.
We have set a goal of finishing the last wrestling match at 3:30pm to provide ample travel time for those returning home.
Many of you have been encountering issues with your USA Card numbers in trackwrestling. If you have sent me an email those issues will be resolved. If you haven't sent me an email please enter today as I believe we have a "fix" for the issue.
Is there anyway of weighing in home site for Saturdays tournament??
Thanks!!
Although I am an advocate of remote weigh-ins, I do not believe we have standardized this process enough to allow this as an option for a State tournament. All weigh ins will be conducted by the tournament staff.
How are the numbers looking for this weekend? Are you stating to get more entries?
There are 2,000 plus 6U card owners. I would like to get 500 of them to Salina this Sunday. It would be nice to see 1/2 of them watching high school state on Saturday.
How many if those 2000 cardholders are still attending practices. I would guess not Half of them made it 2 months into the season.
