This will be our first dual tournament. Can you give me any idea what to expect as far as how long it will last with 8 teams? For those that participated last year, do you remember what time it was over on Sunday? We live 7+ hours away from St. Joe and we are trying to make plans. Thanks.
They run the duals smoothly. Each team has 22 weights, so they run 11 weights on two mats for each dual. If I remember right, we have been done about 4.
Wow. The competition was full of hammers this year and was a great measuring stick for our Kansas Junior Renegades!
Thank you to my coaches Travis Phippen and Jon Trowbridge! Those guys coached some epic battles. Thanks also to the Bradfords for the table help and assistant coaching from Charles.
When we drew Wisconsin Elite as our first dual I knew we were in for a challenging day! They finished 2nd to us last year. The dual came down to the last match, losing narrowly. One of our earlier matches, we were up 11-3 and got pinned. After that we met up with a Michigan team that was loaded along with another really tough Wisconsin team. We beat Texas before falling to the St. Louis Gateway team for 5th and 6th. So... our 3X champion streak was broken...but I can tell you that these Renegades had heart and the future is bright for Kansas wrestling!
A handful of our wrestlers went 4-1 and our 155 pounder, Mikey Waggoner went 5-0! He got revenge from the day earlier by beating a St. Louis wrestler that had pinned him. Riley County and Coach Grater are getting a gem next year in Waggoner.
Thanks to all the blood, sweat and tears from Team Kansas!
