What do yall parents and coaches think about the move banana splits is it legal or illegal in kids wrestling I've looked it up and find nothing illegal about it in kids jus that the ref. can stop it if he feels the kid is in danger. My 8u uses the move and also other leg ride moves such as spladels and cross bodies. What do yall think about the banana splits
its a move that usually only works in kids wrestling. good kids in high school usually don't get put into that move. I used to think it was a cool move and would try it. I think the ref will stop the match if you pull the legs apart straight out and the kid yells. if its taken at an angle and the kid doesn't yell out loud then the ref wont stop it. I probably wouldn't show my high school kid the move though. many other moves that have a higher percentage of actually scoring points off of it.
The move is legal. However, if the individual using the move is doing it with intention to harm their opponent, then the move become illegal. At this point it is most likely a judgement call. However, a lot of the times that i see this move the kid who is being put in it is in so much pain so quickly I have to stop the match and award the extra back point for the stoppage while near fall is being obtained. It's a long week after being stuck in a banana split..
I think that the key to keeping the move legal is for the offensive wrestler to pull the legs to the head instead of actually pulling them apart or splitting them. If the are legs are pulled apart instead to towards the head the match should be stopped because of a potentially dangerous situation.
