Headbangers and Desert Devils. Where are they from? ClASSIC WAS GREAT.
desert devils are from Arizona
Headbangers are out of Colorado.
Why would a team travel clear from Arizona or New Mexico for this tournament?I'm just curious - it seems like such a long distance for 1 tournament.
Did anyone else have to wait an crazy amount of time between matches?
One of the dirt devils coaches was from Salina so when they were transferred to Arizona they started a wrestling club and so every year this tournament falls right after their state as ours does they pack up in a charter bus and drive to Salina and practice with the Salina club and then come on the Wichita and do the tournament. This is the only one they actually travel to they said some of the people in their club go to The Kick off in Tulsa and then of course to Las Vegas since that is close. They were a great group of people and had some excellent tallent from the matches that I was able to watch.
wrestlingparents - yes!!! The mat my son was on was SOOOOOO slow - it took them 45 minutes to go through 6 matches, while the mat next to it ran appx. 25-30 matches ahead. Course once that mat was finished they were able to move some matches over. And what was with having the rotating refs? That added a "break" every 3 matches or so during finals while we waited on them, often while the boys were on the mats ready to wrestle. Otherwise it was a great day. :-)
My brother didn't wrestle his first match until around 1:00. Some people were already in the finals at that time.
Yea they come to the closest big tournaments I have family with wrestlers in Colorado and New Mexico and its a good reason to visit family and fun to see how tough competition in surrounding states are.I went to the Southwest Open last year in Albuquerque and going to the Rocky Mountain tournament in Colorado in 2 weeks.
