If you can't make the meet, be sure to tune in!
Will someone be accepting for Tyler all of his rewards? He's wrestling in Colorado this upcoming week I believe.
no Shumate or Erisman - anyone no why?
Planning on going up from the Wichita area, anyone from here wanting a ride, I have room for 3.
I think Shumate has had a trip planned for quite some time.
I like the small schools chances this year. In the lower weights, I think small schools have the big schools beat. Graduating from a small school, I would love to see them win it!
I agree, it looks like the big schools are gonna get rolled this year!

I think I will be back for OKC by then, but if not, can Xavier.. my HWT get a ride?
Yea, just have him get in touch with me. I'll be leaving around 1:00 right after church.
Kit,
How are the seniors chosen for this event? Are coaches contacted, etc.?
It may be just me and im not even gunna be able to go to the classic but i think they should just let strawn and sutton-kearns duke it out again....any takers?

It's known as the "Big School vs. Small School" dual. Since both Jesse and Chris come from 4A "Small" schools they're on the same team, therefore they will not wrestle this year.
As to the selection process...
The selection committee selected senior state champions, then added others as needed. The list of kids to contact was divided between four coaches and they contacted the wrestler and/or their coach to attempt to get a confirmation. As kids declined due to conflicts or not wanting to wrestle, then alternates were contacted. Eventuallly, we tried to piece together two lineups representing the classes. We are still waiting to hear back from several invitees.
I hope this helps explain.
Kit Harris
Wrestlers/Parents,
A photographer will offer "memory Mate" Packets for the team. There will be a group picture as well as individuals who want a package,
different options for different prices. They will also incorporate the t-shirt artwork into the group picture. If you are interested, plan to bring some form of payment. (It should be around $20).
Wrestlers,
Please plan to arrive between 12:30-1:00 in order for us to check out gear and have team pictures before warm-ups.
Again, you may weigh-in with your home coach (bring signed weigh-in form), or weigh-in at Abilene HS at 1 p.m. You will get a ten pound allowance.
If you need to purchase a USA card, you can do so in Abilene.
LINEUP CHANGE
There has been one lineup change. Two-time 6A runner-up Xavier Louis of Wichita South will compete at 275 pounds, instead of Wichita Northwest's Tyler Jessen.
Xavier Louis will take on Bishop Ward's Donte Jones in what will be the final match of what should be a very exciting dual.
SEE EVERYONE IN ABILENE!
Mr Harris,
What form do we have to have our coaches fill out in order for it to be valid?
Your coach should have a competition weigh-in form to use. If not, just bring a signed document verifying the weigh-in.
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Just wondering if anyone had results. I had planned on going, but couldn't make it.
Thanks!
Small schools won 41-31. Came down to the heavyweight match and could have gone either way. But the 4A HWT pinned a 2-time 6A state champion in the last match. I don't have all the results, but from memory.....here goes:
Weight Small School Big School
103 - Burtin dec Rogers
112 - Rein LBF Stephens
119 - Madden won by 2 (I think) over Livengood
125 - Dawson lost in OT to Nothern
130 - Weatherbee LBF Deshazer (TRISTAN IS THE REAL DEAL!!)
135 - Dreiling lost to Munoz
140 - Garcia dec Hoshaw
145 - Heckel WBF Gray (??)
145 - Finley dec McKoon
152 - Pfannenstiel dec Loos
160 - Roe won 17-6 over Jonas
171 - Wright LBF Irsik (was that really a tilt that he pinned him in??)
189 - Bartlett lost to Bertucci
189 - Sutton-Kearn (with singlet on backwards) dec Hardy
215 - Strawn dec Edison
215 - Erwin lost to Naccarato (3-1??)
275 - Jones WBF Jessen
Jessen didn't wrestle. Xavier Louis - two time runner up to Jessen - took his place.
Deshazer and Roe looked AWESOME!
the other 140 match was:
Travis Warner dec Matt Mahan
135- Dreiling lost to Moses
275- Jones wbf Lewis
Munoz and Jessen did not wrestle.
Congrats to all. There were some great matches!
I would like to thank Kit Harris, Bob Gonzales, Regan Erickson, James Stout and all the senior athletes for their efforts in putting on a great event.
I gave Kit the official score sheet and he will be posting the results.
That explains the heavyweight match. I was wondering why a 2x state champion would get called for 2 full nelsons. Now I know.
At 135, I think the announcer said Moses found out at noon today that he was a replacement. He seemed to be in pretty good shape for that short of notice.
Wow lance Roe certainly turned it on tonight-- to beat a wrestler the quality of Jonas has to set him out there amongst the carnivores for sure!
An absolutely fantastic event with tons of highlight film wrestling! (not that I'm plugging KWCA dvd)
My highlights!
Livengood came real close to beating Madden.
Nothern and Dawson in a battle.
Tristen is an animal.
Pfannenstiel over Loos in another battle.
Roe was quite impressive with a couple of very athletic moves ... WOW!
Chris Sutton-Kearn and Jesse Hardy with a hard-nosed war.
Finally, Donte Jones is just plain fun to watch!
Roe beat Jonas like it was nothing. Is Roe the one that gave Cotton his one loss for the year?
Yeah, the small schools won - but ghez look at some of the match ups - they had their state champ going against a big school kid that took 4th or 5th or 6th. . . That happened at several of the matches. Seem a tad unfair. But, no problem. It was still a ton of fun to watch. Thanks kids. THanks refs, coaches and Kit.
Speaking of the refs - it was announced that all three of them donated their checks for the evening to the Grater Fund. THat was way cool. Good job men.
Looking forward to seeing how Deshazer, Strawn and Roe do at HS nationals. Those three stood out to me tonight. Especially TD. Impressive.
I think that Erisman and Baker will be as good as the above mentioned guys, this could be as good a Kansas national year as we have had in awhile. I think about the impressive shows that were put on by Grater, Cornejo, Baldridge, Taplin, etc. from last year, and yet the guys that had the success this year were Chenowith, and Youngkin. Any one of this years crop could jump out and be the guy next year, you just never know.

Yea I did find out that afternoon...I rode up with Coach Jilka to watch and they told me Munoz didn't show up...So I found some shoes and some knee-pads and got out there....and I SEEMED in good shape but thats because of the breaks due to blood lol...I wasn't in the best of shape lol... but it was much fun!

Coach Smith at OSU doesn't want him doing any extra wrestling right now...it tells me that they are hoping to put him in right away. I know that Rosholt's brother was able to wrestle at Sr. Nationals and other events.

Last year it wasn't the best matchups in the world either! Just depends what side of the stands you are on.

Which "side of the stands" were you on?
I did see your friend Mr. Furches and Chenoweth arrived with a Newman assistant coach, but NO Sweazy.

I did see your friend Mr. Furches and Chenoweth arrived with a Newman assistant coach, but NO Sweazy. I was sitting on the same row as you. I was just down a bit by the Strawn family and with the Atchison High School Group. Randy Hinderliter was up in front of me as well. Did you see how many people didn't clap when Chenoweth was recognized? At least one!
Mr. Salyer and Sweazy, I know this is completely off subject, and has nothing to do with what you're talking about, but do you guys ever sleep?
The reason we received for Neil Erisman not being able to wrestle in the Senior Classic was because of a spring break trip.
Neil took the entire week off from wrestling and went on a much deserved Spring Break trip. He will now turn his focus to Freestyle, which he prefers.
Coach Jones
Yes Roe Beat cotton in double overtime in Newton with a contriversial call But Il Be glad to see him place in nationals what collage is he attending?
Coach Jones,
I have Neil's awards for his state records. I will mail those to DeSoto HS. Will that be okay?
