Well, we're here in Omaha. The seniors weighed in last night. There aren't a lot of kids in this division so we won't start wrestling until 5 pm this afternoon.
The freshmen, sophomores, and juniors weigh in tonight. Unfortunately, the site they weigh in at is a few miles away from the wrestling venue. Logistically, this presents a few challenges but manageable.
I'll have more updates later!
yeah, updates - way cool! Thanks.
Hopefully, the tournament staff will have some brackets posted for this tourney.
I will try to post results as soon as I can but with about 140 wrestlers from Kansas ... I'm sure I won't be able to keep up.
If you have certain wrestlers that you are interested in ... post away, and I will try to get results up as soon as I can.
Randy I know I'm interested in all the Seniors (especially the upper weights) and also the Sophomore Hwt class.
Jake Richey and Xavier Louis
Things are just starting, Joey Stephens got beat by fall and Rogers won by fall.

Edison wins by tech fall. Lewis wins by fall!
Freeman pinned Underwood.
Joey Scott goes overtime in his consolation match and suffers a defeat!
That's it for the wrestling this evening! I know there are a few matches that I didn't get and we will try to get those later!
I visited with the champ, Cody Garcia, Taplin and Marrs.
Thanks Red! And who is keeping an eye on me?

Jason Bryant is.
Randy, you didn't answer yet if there is wi-fi in the field house. Please let us know. Thanks!
YES, there is wi-fi in the field house. AND I could sure use some help tomorrow.
This evening it was tough, trying to keep up with four mats that had a Kansas competitor in most matches. And, a lot of the boys, I don't know yet, which causes a bit of confusion. But, I'm trying!
Tomorrow, with 140 wrestlers competing, it will be an absolute zoo!
I did have some great help this evening from Matt Mahan's Mom.
She was keeping an eye on me ... and yes Jason Bryant said I was his responsibility ... thanks to Swayz!
Is there a charge for the wireless? Is there easy access to electrical outlets once our batteries die? I can bring my laptop. Also, how are they about people bringing in drinks or bag searching?
No, there is not a charge for wireless. Yes, there is access to outlets along the top row. And, I did not see them checking bags!
Also, there are a few seniors that received byes today. They wrestled one round out the front and one out the back.
Seeing how you’re are mature and the most senior Statesman of Kansas wrestling you should not need a chaperone. You’re a rather attractive silver fox… I’m sure there are quite a few mom’s keeping an EYE on you. Thanks for the updates I will be checking in from work tomorrow.
Not to plug another thread but I think this quote heard in Animal House fits.
"She should be good-looking, but we're willing to trade looks for a certain ... morally casual attitude"
... but here it is 9:30 on Friday evening, I'm in the big city with casino's, sports bars, and tons of night life ... and here I sit in my hotel room, posting on the internet, and quickly fading ... zzzzzz!
I don't even recognize a lot of the senior's names...can you find out where some of these guys are from high school wise?
... and I am not the most Senior statesman in Omaha. I did wake up, a tad before I wanted to, and who is in my room? Coach Skip Harrington!
... and I don't know a lot of the guys but I will try to get credentials on them.
Okay, we're set up in the venue, Sapp Fieldhouse on the campus of the University on Nebraska-Omaha. I've seen several of the Kansas faithful and we're getting ready for the parade.
Wrestling is scheduled to start at 9 am. I will try to update as best that I can but the first duties will be to the wrestlers! I hope you understand!!
There is a link to the updated brackets. It is:
http://www.intermatwrestle.com/high_school/ban2006.aspx ... and I will try to give you a little extra flavor via this message board of the Team that got the biggest cheer ... Team Kansas!
There are around 890 wrestlers here, about 140 sport the Sunflower as their home.
I hope the boys got a good night sleep as they must come out early, with guns blazing!
I have to give an additional plug to Jason Bryant and his InterMat web site. He is sitting to my immediate right and is doing his own updates!
It's 9 o'clock and they just made the announcement to clear the mats.
I took a little pause to the necessary room and to-and-from I saw tons of Kansas supporters! I hope there is someone left at home to read this!!
I here... and getting paid to look at the internet! big money Saturday. Keep the good news coming.
Nathan Furches, Derby, just man-handled his first round opponent! Jake Zahm, Columbus, won in convincing fashion.

Aaron Ely pinned his first foe!
Miller from Manhattan won his first bout.
Anthony Livengood lost a close match 3-6.

Ned
Connor Mc Carthy gets a takedown in OT just as time ran out, no call, can't escape in double OT for a loss.
Connor McCarthy wrestles to a scoreless tie in regulation. In the third, he was on top and nearly scored several times with the cheap tilt. The fourth period was scoreless. In the fifth, Connor was down and could not gain the escape ... he loses, 0-1.
Remember ... Spring forward tonight! That way my 4:23 am posts become 5:23 am at least!

The Seniors are starting their competition!
Randy how about Mitch arnold ?
Matt Rein, with Coach R.T. in his corner, loses a heartbreaker 9-10. He led the entire match until the last 15 seconds.

Yea he's on Yahoo messenger right now...btw George Mason trails by 5 at half.
Connor McCarthy turns a close match into a dramatic win by pin!
Good to see Connor doing well (after that 5 point toss by Larry last week I would be seeing double)
James Fox, a young man who took a recent Bronze Clinic, faces the Number 2 seed. Fox dictates the pace, winning 5-2.
Tony Livengood wins 4-3!
Josiah Payne wins 4-2!
Furches and Cox have been called to the Mat!
Tait Weatherbee was in a real barn-burner. The score has 11-9 when Tait caught his opponent on his back and secured the fall.
Randy you are missing a real gem...all Polka on Lawrence Welk!
Steve Miller, the Pride of the Lil' Apple and of Parkwayred, was in a barn-burner of his own. The score was 11-9 going into the third period. Miller was on bottom and gave up a 2-point tilt to tie the score. With 10 seconds to go, Miller was victimized by another tilt and lost the match 11-13.

EJ Walter lost in overtime, Michael Hammer won, Josiah Payne lost 4-0, Jed Mamie lost by pin, Matt Baker lost 8-4.
Thanks for the updates. Take it to em Kansas.
I've forced myself to wait till a "reasonable hour" to make my first post of the day!
Today, is "All American" day. Every competitor wrestling today has earned the status of "All American!" I've had some concerns about what an AA is and I've stated those on other threads. However, most of these wrestlers today have earned that distinction. While some brackets are a bit soft other are absolutely brutal. Regardless, these are the wrestlers that are here and nothing diminishes their performance!
In a couple of hours, we will start the placement matches. Go TEAM KANSAS!
Good morning Randy! Thanks for the kind words about Steve. This is his first big bracket tournament. I spoke with him last night… while he was disappointed he said it was a great experience. He’s looking forward to today’s competition. He also coned his Mom out of a new pair of shoes and a cheeseburger. Look forward to today’s reports! Thanks again for all your work for the rest of us back at home!
Red
In case you don't want to read through all the brackets, here are the finalists from Kansas.
Freshmen: Trent Cox, Tyler Caldwell, CJ Napier, Kyle Detmer, Jordan Brown, and Boaz Beard.
Sophomores: Romero Cotton, and in an all Kansas finals at heavyweight, we have Duane Zlatnik versus Steve Andrus.
Juniors: Paulie Hansen, Brett Bahe, Aaron Ely, and Steven Foster.
Seniors: Nash Burtin, James Fox, Tait Weatherbee, Jarrett Edison, and Xavier Louis (who has already secured first in this division)
Those are our finalists! But that is not to diminish in any way the efforts of the rest of our All-Americans ... nor the efforts of the entire Kansas team.
Good morning to you Red! Thanks, while I always like speaking of great wrestlers, I'm absolutely ecstatic praising great kids!
... and speaking of great kids, I did not follow through on my assignment, that of keeping an eye on the other fruit of your eye! (wait, did I just call your son a fruit ... ) Anyway, I'm almost sure he was fine!
I have called him allot worse... matter of fact Mike thought his name was JC until he was 12.
ohhh ... and Swayz ... you still haven't figured out who R.T. is (the coach in the corner for Matt Rein)?
I'm set up at the venue ready to get the day started! We begin with a parade of All-Americans at 8:30 and then pictures. Wrestling is scheduled to commence at 9 am!
One of the items they do nicely at the Brute-Adidas Nationals is offering an optional tournament.
In this format, all wrestlers regardless of classification, our drawn in by weight. It is a great opportunity to get additional mat time while in Omaha.
This additional tournament is available for wrestlers who aren't competing in the All American rounds. And a nice bonus is it is offered at NO additional cost!
They've cleared the mats in Omaha and we should be rockin and rollin directly!
Randy,
Good Morning!!
Thanks for a great job of repoorting back to us who could not make the trip.
Congrats to TEAM KANSAS. Good luck to all today.

Colby Crank takes a big lead in the first period. He earns the fall in the second!
In the bout for bragging rights we have Devvon Ochoa versus Colby Crank from the Hat!
The wrestlers battle for control in the first period ... each take shot attempts ... it's a scoreless first!
Ochoa is from Atchison and is on top ... Crank it trying to stand up, and Ochoa drives him out-of-bounds ... Crank wrenches a knee and takes injury time
... they re-start and on a sit out attempt, Ochoa catches Crank on his back for a 3-point near fall ... the period ends.
Crank's on top ... it's Red grinding on Nedly ... sorry ...
Crank gives the escape with 25 seconds left and cannot gain the takedown. Ochoa wins 4-0.
Randy,
Sorry Crank is not from hat town. I must have read a bracket that was not updated yet. Thanks for the updates anyway. I feel that I am matside!!
Ned
Ryan Patterson can't secure the late takedown and has it scored on him. Patterson loses.
NO ... it might be me ... we have a Cody Conklin and a Colby Crank both from Kansas at the same weight! I think I was confused! Ochoa did win and in the opposing corner was Coach Miller!

We're ready for the finals ... finally!
At 103-pounds we have freshman, Trent Cox and also senior Nash Burtin.
Cox takes the early lead 2-0. It's 2-1 in the second and Trent gives a reversal and back points and is trailing 2-6. In the 3rd, Adamson opened up the offense and won going away, 2-14.
Burtin is down early 0-2. He continues to trail 3-6 as the 3rd gets underway. Burtin is down 6-12 in the 3rd and loses the bout 6-14.
Of course Burtin was at 112.
At 112 we have KC Turner and resident Steve wrestling. Paulie Hansen is wrestling a foe from Pennsylvania. The first period is scoreless and Hansen is on top to start the 2nd. Paulie's throwing in the legs and grinding but is reversed to his back and pinned in the cradle.
Hansen shows a lot of maturity and sportsmanship ... he is the runner-up in the Brute Nationals.
This will be tough but I'll try. We have Tyler Caldwell representing the freshman, Brett Bahe is in the junior division, both at 119. At the same time we have James Fox, our senior 125 pounder.
Caldwell is scoreless in the first. Caldwell is rides for 2 minutes and gains the quick reversal as the 3rd starts. And just as quick the bout is over with a pin fall. Caldwell wins.
Bahe is scoreless in the first. Bahe gives up the escape. The bout ends 0-1.
Fox trails early. He loses the bout, 2-11.
At 125 ... Aaron Ely jumps all over his foe. He gains the takedown and is working the cheap tilt. Suddenly, the ref slaps the mat and the opponent is awarded the defense pin.
... I'm flabbergasted and taken back a bit ...
... it's taking me a while to regain my bearings after Ely's match ...
In the Senior division at 130 it is Tait Weatherbee representing the Kansans. Tait takes the lead with an escape in the second. The Iowan gains an escape of his own to tie the score. It is the Hawkeye with the takedown with 40 seconds to go. Tait scores the reversal with 5 seconds to go. We go overtime ... the Kansas faithful are cheering but to no avail Weatherbee loses on the takedown.
A freshman from Columbus at 130 pounds, CJ Napier takes his turn. Napier is in deep but can't secure the score. It is scoreless entering the second. Napier is down. CJ earns his feet with ease. Napier in deep again but this time he scores. CJ works the tilt (visions of Ely) and gains a 2-pt near fall. In the 3rd, the Showme opts neutral and scores the takedown. The Showme has the cradle locked up and is on his back as the period ends. It's overtime ... it's CJ with the takedown and the Championship!
At 135 we have Kyle Detmer representing the freshman class from Kansas taking on a foe the Missouri. The first period ends with no score. Detmer earns the escape but the Showme scores the takedown. The third begins with Detmer trailing 1-2 and taking his turn on top. He gives and escape early. The Showme scores again with the takedown. A late escape by Detmer is of no consequence as Detmer suffers the loss, 2-5.
Representing the freshman class from Kansas is 145-pounder Jordan Brown. Jordan is from Pittsburg, Kansas and his opponent is from Missouri.
Jordan takes early control with the head-and-arm and scored the fall.
Jordan Brown is a National Champion and is awarded a watch.
Tell Jordo Gongrats from Pittsburg!!!

Chris Watson, C. J. Napier's opponent in the finals is a former Kansan and wrestled for Wichita Wrestling Club prior to moving to Kansas City several years ago.
At 152-pounds, Boaz Beard faces a foe from Pennsylvania. Boaz scores early with a sweet duck under. After an escape they're back to their feet. Again the duck for the score an escape and another takedown and Beard is ahead 6-2 and fives the escape as the first period closes.
Beard is on bottom earns the locked hands point and the reversal. After the escape, it's Beard with the front headlock and the reverse chin for a 2 plus 3 then 3 more. I'm not sure if it all adds up but the score is 17-5 as the period closes.
The third starts in neutral, Boaz gives up a takedown but escapes as the period ends. Boaz Beard is our Champion at 152, winning 18-7.
Sounds like like freshman class is pretty dominate!!!
It's Romero Cotton's turn as the sophomore weighs in at 160. Also we have Jameon Rush representing the Juniors.
Romero scores the takedown and controls the balance of the period. Romero goes on to dominate his foe winning 18-4. Romero Cotton is a watch winner!
Jameon Rush trails early. He is behind 4-7 and goes on to lose the match.
I apologize to Jameon as I was late to recognize he was on the mat!
At 215-pounds in the Senior division we have Jarrett Edison representing Team Kansas against a competitor from Iowa.
The Hawkeye scores the early takedown and ride outs the period. Edison opts down. Edison earns the escape. We enter the 3rd period with Jarrett trailing 1-2. Jarrett is trying for the tilt allows the escape with 10 seconds to go but quickly is in on the legs to tie the score.
I overtime, Edison counters the head-and-arm and gains the takedown. What time is it? Ask Jarrett to check his new watch!
At 215-pounds we have Steven Foster representing the Kansas junior class. He is facing a foe from Illinois.
Foster is warned for backing up. We have blood time.
This gives me a chance to mention the two Champs that Kansas has already crowned. Dante Rogers and Xavier Louis.
Foster is in deep but can't score.
In the second, Foster is given the escape and takes the first lead in the bout. Foster gives up a stall point to tie the score.
Foster gives the escape to start the 3rd. A double stall warning gives the Illini another point. The score is now 1-3. Illini stalls again but too little too late. Foster loses 2-3.
At heavyweight in the sophomore class we have Kansas versus Kansas. Duane Zlatnik versus Stephen Andrus. Rossville versus Manhattan.
Both wrestlers were warned for stalling about a minute-and-a-half into this match. The second period begins with Andrus opting down. Andrus earns the escape. Zlatnik is warned for stalling again and loses a point.
Zlatnik is allowed the escape by Andrus. Zlatnik tries the throw but Andrus counters. Andrus gives up a stall point and a escape. The score is 4-3 Andrus. One minute left in the bout.
... thirty seconds left and Andrus has to take blood time ...
... wrestling continues ... Andrus is called for fleeing ... overtime
... in overtime, it's Stephen Andrus with the toss and pin! Stephen Andrus is our National Champ!
A good event ... Kansas did well ... but we must admit, not every team brings 148 competitors! Regardless, that's not our fault, we wrestle those that show up. Now bring on the wrestling season.
That's it from Omaha ... I'll be back in Ottawa in about 4 hours!
TTFN
I think I can speak for the moms here in Lawrence, thanks so much for the updates. You did a phenominal job keeping us informed. You deserve a long, long R and R.
Thanks, Randy! ..... Good Game to Team Kansas!

No Clue on R.T.
TOSS AND PIN!?! WOW for Andrus avenging a loss from Kid's state!
Swaz I give you a couple of clues... He's from Abilene and now lives in Omaha!
Thanks to Randy! Be careful on your way home. You did a great job bumping your post total this weekend!
Great job Tyler, Boaz, Russ, and all of the Kansans that wrestled. What a showing! I wish I could have been there.
Outstanding work by Randy, as well. You are a great attribute to the sport.
Jilka
Just a sidenote: Mahan lost to Gomez and then came back to pin Jacobi to take 5th at Sr.145lbs. Kansas boys did a great job this weekend. It was great to get to know some of the people who are on this forum. The coaches did an awesome job of keeping up with the numerous kids on the mats! Gold star for Randy and his updates! Thank you for a great weekend!
Whew ... home finally! Thanks for the kind words but I do it all to glorify the kids of Kansas.
I've re-read my posts and must apologize for some of the gramatical and spelling errors. Today especially, my hands were all thumbs and trying to type was an adventure!
And, I'm still shaking my head about Aaron Ely's match. I can't believe the emotion that came over me. Aaron was flat taking it to his opponent ... when the call was made. However, my emotions were nothing to the stun silence exhibited by young Ely. I hope they meet again in Fargo!
Sorry I could not post on all the young men we had wrestling.
Randy,
On behalf of the Kansas wrestling fans I want to thank you for all your time and all your updates that you have provided all of us. Even though I did not have the priveledge of being there this weekend, I could still see some of those matches thanks to you.........NOW GO REST!!!!!!!
I just read where Jarrett Edison was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Senior division of the Brute Adidas Folkstyle Nationals!
Great job Jarrett and very well deserved!!
Randy,
DO you want to go to Iowa this coming weekend. I don't think there is anyway I can match what you did this past weekend.
Once again great job!!
Ned
lol ... I would love too ... I don't know what my wife would say about that though!!!
Is Iowa this weekend the US Team Trials?
no ... for the Kids Folkstyle Nationals! ... but I suspect you knew it wasn't for the WTT
... and did you figure out R.T. yet?
Just sat down after getting home. Great job Randy on the reporting, I knew people would be looking. What a weekend for Kansas. To the parents that allowed your kids to go and entrust I and others with them, thank you, what an honor. I also thank the 140+ wrestlers from Kansas, what an honor to have been in the corner of many of you, and there cheering along the others. I don’t know how many officials that commented about your behavior both on and off the mat, our young men are making a national impression.
I didn’t get to tell everyone bye and thanks but thanks. Randy it is always a true joy to spend time with you, one of these days we will get in those 18 holes.
Despite some issues, I was reminded of what this was all about, especially watching Zogelman and Maple this morning, and then hearing about Rogers and Stephens. I’ll make comments later on, especially surrounding the Ely Match and the Cox finals match, but right now, like Randy, with little sleep over the last few days, it is time for bed.
Still can't figure out the R.T. and I want to know what was up with the 23-22 match with Rogers-Stephens, was it rigged?
I just used a lifeline...I didn't know Ross paid to coach in the event and was coaching for the deal.

Yes So much for credibility when it comes to recruiting those two.
Those are great kids, and I have a feeling that they know that a 103 and a 112 pounder doesn't stand much chance of really being recruited at 125.
What another great group of kids. There was so much wrestling to watch this weekend, I am exhausted! It was a great weekend of wrestling and thanks to all that helped. Randy, you outdid yourself this time. Furches, ain't it great organizing 200 some people? Everyone deserves a big pat on the back. I truly think we did Kansas Proud this weekend. Sounds like we also did well in Danville, Reno and the girls did well in Detroit-please see my post on the women's site.
Well, guess I better go save some lives today.
Ms. Jenni

Yes So much for credibility when it comes to recruiting those two. Swayz, Swayz, Swayz, These two already have several schools looking at them. This was two teammates, who have been working together in the room for several weeks, in intense hard workouts, who have developed a close friendship. They decided to do something for each other and have some fun. Dante was "sort of" wrestling up because he had no comp at 103. The next wrestler they were going to wrestle was also from Kansas and Dante really wanted the chance to wrestle him. Joey abliged and gave him the chance, in a fun way that was better than laying down the leg band for his team mate, they decided to have fun. Everyone there that I spoke to loved it, including the official on the mat.
Are the final results posted somewhere? There were some Kansas Kids wrestling there that I didn't see any updates on. Were all the Kansas kids wrestling Wizzers?
