Isn't this the same tournament that was supposed to come to Kansas? What ever happened to that?

We were trying to bring something like that here, but we had someone gripe about it not being USAW sanctioned and thus this tournament which makes a good chunk of money for both local economies and gives back to wrestling, decided that one bad apple does spoil the bunch. For the record...that person should know that Sara Koenig who is the co-director of the Super32 was USAW's NC Person of the Year a few years back and gives a lot of time and money to USA Wrestling.
Aaron as I remember that thread there were numerous problems besides a question of sanctioning.

Yes it is the same series tournament, and basically Aaron’s comments are right on the money. I was speaking with Dave, the director of Super 32, who I believe even responded on the topic thread it was originally posted on. Truth is I put in a lot of work, and I mean a lot of work was put into the possibility of that tournament happening, including, security of venue, reservation of officials, notification to particular chambers or commerce and much more. Then when complaints came about regarding the tournament not being USA Sanctioned in Kansas, even some questioning the use of these boards to promote it, the promoters backed out. While it wasn't the only complaint registered, I will assure you, as the one who was working on the promotion of the tournament; those few complaints scared the promoters off because of the perceived authority of those posters.
While I know this was not the intent of some of those posting, it should be understood, that this was the primary reason to my understanding for initially not doing the tournament. As I was the person primarily involved in working with the promoters, I think I can safely speak on this subject.
Will it happen in Kansas in the future? I personally doubt it, but I would like to be proven wrong. Truth is, there is more to putting on a tournament of this caliber than many realize. It is easy to talk about it getting done, but another thing all together to see to it that it gets done. I am afraid that we likely lost our chance to see it happen in the future. It is a shame because the Super 32 is now recognized as one of the top High School tournaments in the country. To think that we could have had it in Kansas is disturbing when considering it could have been.

Sportsfan, don't take this the wrong way, but felt the need to respond. The problems were from those on the outside looking in. In fact, of those raising issues, of which they didn’t know what had been addressed or not in the planning of the tournament, not a single individual, and I mean not a single individual ever contacted me about what was being done, or what was getting done in regards to this tournament. In fact, not a single person raising those questions really offered to help with the planning of that tournament. Sanctioning is not, was not a problem. As you know, there are many high school and Jr. High tournaments that take place on a yearly basis that are not USA sanctioned. One of the compromises that had been worked out, of course no one knew it, was that Kansas USA wrestling was going to be allowed to promote itself at the tournament. However, many states and in fact, many Kansas High School Wrestlers are not affiliated with USA Wrestling. The truth is, the event would have allowed more Kansas High School wrestlers to participate. An example of that is that we took 149 Kansas High School Wrestlers to Brute/Adidas Nationals in Omaha last year.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a strong supporter of USA Wrestling. I am also a stronger supporter of wrestling in general, the Super 32 would have provided tremendous opportunities for some of our High School Wrestlers, and would have provided an even greater opportunity to promote USA Wrestling membership to those wrestlers. I still say, it is a shame it didn’t happen. Do I have a sour taste in my mouth from the whole event? You bet I do, I learned that Aaron’s assessment is correct, a few negative comments ruined a lot of hard work.
What facility had been secured to handle such a large event? If I am remembering the correct thread, after a few questions were asked, it was down to using some middle school commons areas for wrestling. Also, if I'm not mistaken, this event was originally going to conflict with a USA sponsored event. I can't for the life of me figure out why USAW would need to "promote" itself in this state.
The thought was that no more than 500 would appear at the first tournament. We thought that possibly the Derby location, would have sufficed, remember, over 800 there for their kids tournaments, and as most know, out of state teams bring very few spectators. Spread out over a Friday, weigh in's and some exhibition tournament, and all day Saturday the tournament would have been run fairly smoothly.
There was no conflict of date, with the possible exception of kids in Iowa, but again, remember this was primarily a high school tournament. There was only a 3 week span where there was no conflict, and if not mistaken, there was no conflict in state.
As to your comment regarding USA being promoted in state, I agree, but the truth is, at least I think we will agree on, we need to find a way to get many more high school wrestlers signed up with USA and take part in more USA events. The numbers are low. I know that I am hopefully going to have a number of High School kids sign up next year with the Wizzers that haven't been signed up in the past in that we now have our charter and will require USA membership to participate with the team, whether participating in USA tournaments or not.

I haven't posted a lengthy post on here in a long time, maybe you are imagining a lot of things. I think the whole USA Wrestling thing is kinda funny in itself as we don't even field full teams to USA sanctioned events like Junior Duals.

Yea that's what I'm saying.
While I am a firm supporter of USA Wrestling, I don't think regardless of whether we have a sanctioning body or not, we would have fielded a team different than the one we did.

Shouldn't we have had a red flag go up sooner than a week prior to Jr. Duals though to get some guys down to OKC? Last year 112 was open and I suggested Matt Rein only to hear that they had never heard of him?! Ross Taplin had to tell coach Garcia about Matt, and by then it was too late to cut. We could have had tons of guys fill in at the weights voided, we just need more than 3 days notice.
I've tried to make this point gently but sometimes wrestlers that want to compete on these teams need to show some interest.
The number one qualifier for these teams are the State FS/GR tourney. I know that coaches Garcia and Rieck were very visible at this tourney, trying to drum up some interest. But if for some reason a wrestler didn't compete in the State tourney he can still show his interest by competing in a couple of Freestyle/Greco tournies throughout the year!
I know that trying to get our wrestlers to commit has been a challenge. Some of the wrestlers you have mentioned have not competed in wrestling since March. Freestyle and especially Greco are unique beasts. I would suggest that if you haven't been training in these styles you probably shouldn't be making your first venture at the Jr. Duals!
I know full well, that people expressing interest is different, than actually coming through! Are there wrestlers that should be on these teams? Absolutely but I question whether they should have to begged to do so!
I have full confidence that Coaches Garcia and Rieck would like to field the best team possible for Kansas. I know they are working to find "the tons of guys!" But maybe they need a bit of help a few weeks prior instead of being second-guessed a few weeks later!
I think there were plenty of people trying to help drum up guys a few weeks prior when all other states were releasing their teams line ups.
Maybe we can do like Texas does and if you make the Junior or Cadet duals team (by winning fs/greco) the state will let you wrestle in both the duals and Fargo for 1 price.
Do you know where I would possibly be able to get information on this tournament? I'm kind of young for such a big tournament. But it sounds worth the trip.
There is a possiblity that we will be taking the Kansas Wizzers to this tournament. Still working out the details. The Wizzers will be back in full force, starting in late September, first of October. The goal is to develop and help High School Wrestlers across the state as much as possible. There will be more information coming, but in that the Wizzers are Chartered with Kansas USA Wrestling, USA Cards will be required. There are also already plans to help out with the Wizzers who participate in Summer Wrestling for next year. Thankfully I have other parents and coaches helping out with this and would love to take a group of guys to NC to represent Kansas.

If this is the same Sawyer I saw wrestle at cadet duals then you would definantly hold your own.
Looks like the mat.com is not allowing this tournament to be promoted on it's message boards now.

Ken Chertow got on there and said something and in turn the entire thread got deleted.
I just made this post at The Mat,
I felt it was time that at least this moderator post his thoughts regarding the message boards here at The Mat. First, it should be known that I and I am assuming other moderators do not have the authority to ban members of the message boards. I do have the ability to email, as do other members of The Mat, the administrators at USA Wrestling regarding concerns over posts. As a moderator, I have the ability to edit and delete if I deem them inappropriate and in violation of the user agreement. Note moderators can only do that on the boards they moderate.
It should be noted there are different moderators on different boards, they are hidden for obvious reasons. It is a volunteer position and takes time. I cannot tell you why some moderators delete certain threads. There are threads that have recently been deleted that I cannot answer questions about. I can only tell you why I delete threads, which has happened less than 3 times, deleted less than 7 responses and edited less than 3 topics in over 2 years. I have and will continue to delete threads on the message boards I moderate that are in violation of the forum rules as each member agreed to when signing onto The Mat Forums. As of this evening, my moderator responsibilities have increased but I still do not moderate on most boards on these forums. I will be glad to tell any member that emails me if I deleted a post, thread, or edited a post off line but not on the forums. If I didn’t have anything to do with it, I’ll also tell you. Now please understand I don’t moderate every board, and don’t know who all the moderators are. You can contact me at mike@furches.org
Now if you have been banned or have a question regarding banning, I suggest you contact USA Wrestling, I can’t help you and don’t know your answers. I know several of those banned have contacted USA Wrestling and some have been reinstated.
I must be specific. I am speaking for myself as I have been troubled by recent events. There are many who have left the forums I admire, like, and call friend. I have visited and enjoyed the interaction with them on the other message board they have started. I belong to several boards and enjoy participation on them, whether here at The Mat, the Kansas Forums, or the place where many of my friends have gone. I do not speak for USA Wrestling but on my own, at least as one who feels obligated to serve the members of this forum. I felt the members of these forums deserved at least a response from one of your moderators. Each moderator, and administrator of USA wrestling will have to answer for themselves as to the events of recent. I take my commitment to the membership seriously and wanted to at least share what I felt. I truly believe the wrestling community is like family. Unfortunately, lately, it has not seemed that way. There may very well be some who don’t appreciate my comments, some who just wish the recent events would go away. I personally don’t know if that will solve anything which is why I am posting this post. I know some will blast me from the membership, making assumptions that are totally off base and false.
If you have a thread or comment deleted I again encourage you to contact USA Wrestling, and even post the question on a thread with an email address where you can be reached. I truly believe the moderators care about serving the membership of USA Wrestling and The Mat. I know I do.
I think many forget about the membership agreement they agree to when joining the mat. It follows:

Most of the time I don't care if a thread gets deleted or altered BUT, when it does, on any board, I would like to see the moderator responsible make a post explaining what actions were taken and why.
Sportsfan, one of the options we have here is we can contact the person when we delete a thread. I have always tried to do that. We do not have those options available at The Mat. I have to give it up to Mike Juby. These forums offer both posters and moderators assistance and helps that most forums don't.
I think that if those making posts at The Mat could contact the moderators, and the moderators contact individuals making posts that a lot of the issues could have been resolved.
Specific to the Super 32 thread; Most don't know that Super 32 and The Mat have a longstanding great relationship. In fact it was Super 32 that owned The Mat name and gave it to USA Wrestling for their use. The Mat as a result has had a long standing tradition of allowing information about Super 32 to be posted, yet, someone made the decision to delete a post, I don't know who or why. I did speak to Dave, of Super 32 in a lengthy conversation last night via telephone. He would have just liked a reason as no one really knows why the thread was deleted.
I guess all of that is a long winded way of saying, you are correct. If volunteering to moderate a wrestling board, or any board, remember that as a moderator you are there to serve the members of that board. They at the least deserve an explanation as to why a deletion takes place, and to be treated with respect unless in clear violation of the agreement they accepted when joining the board imo.
Ted just responded and stated the thread was deleted because it was an advertisement for a non usa tournament. I personally didn't see it that way as people were asking about the tournament. That was the decision that was made though.

Ken Chertow got on there and said something and in turn the entire thread got deleted. Here you go.
Well some of you may or may not know, but I'm heading there again (NC) Friday from Wichita...flight leaves around 7am...I get off work around 3am, so I'll be short on sleep. Hope to get some more information on the tournament, know they got some nice funds from the Greensboro Athletic Commission or something like that. I'll keep an update for those that are interested.
Sara from the Super32 is coming into town (Wichita) next Thursday night after work. Plans are to go to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater on FRIDAY, then take her to Eskimo Joes.
I'm going to have her bring some more information (maybe some merchandise) and possibly do a presentation about the Super32 while down in Stillwater at the HOF for those interested in winding down and rewarding themselves to wrestling history at the HOF, and maybe getting some information on flights, hotels, and other accomodations for the Greensboro area.
Those interested in going to the HOF next Friday, please email me. Thanks.
