Time someone asked, weather don't look good this weekend, hopefully they are wrong, but what are the plans in bad weather for the tournaments?
I don't to hear about bad weather. I am one that does not like the hazards of winter driving.
We travel three days in a row and I am worried about the weather
I know the standard procedure has to do with the fact about school in session. On at least one of the Wichita area news stations they mentioned severe icing starting on Friday and Blizzard like conditions on Saturday and Sunday. I just hope they are wrong but it is possible that school is in session on Friday and the weather changes on Friday night and Saturday. This could make for a tough time. We have family in Newton so I guess I need to make the call to stay the night just in case.
The weather channel has backed off the really bad weather...for now. Here in the KC area they are showing rain on Friday night and a wintery mix on Saturday but the high on Saturday is 41....I don't think they know until it happens!!
If smokeycabin falls on his rear end going out his front door, the tournament is off!
But who is in charge of putting smokeycabin back together again!
i know here in Southwest, KS they are saying that we are supposed to get rain, ice, and snow tomorrow and friday then just snow on Saturday...which could mean really bad things for us since some people are just now getting power back and we still have A LOT of ice and snow on the ground from our storm almost 2 weeks ago!!
Just got a call from the AD's secretary at Halstead and they're not changing one thing for their tourney. Going with the whole, "We'll cross that bridge when it gets built" type attitudes.
Mike- I'm spitting one hell of a storm your way! Got a good foot of the white stuff pilin up and it just began.
If I recall (might have been last year or 2 years ago) the St. Mary's tournament got cancelled because of weather...Silver Lake jumped on a buss and called to get in the Basehor Tournament and then did pretty dang good!
What does that have to do with the price of eggs???
(Oh, I know, you're shooting for the 1st 5K!)
Does anyone know when a tournament would be called off normally? I would think with teams traveling from out west to Basehor, they would want to be notified sooner rather than later....
That's up to the individual tournament. Caney Valley cancelled at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon the day prior to their tournament this year due to the storm in SE Kansas, but that was due to the aftermath of the storm not what was predicted to happen. I can only think of one time when the tournament cancelled the day of (early 90's). We all showed up for weigh-in and while some kids were trying to make weight coach got the call.
This storm does not seem to have a track established yet. You can watch three different stations and get three different projections. Schools are becoming increasingly aware that travel in bad weather can lead to problems best avoided. I would assume that the tournaments will begin on Friday, but could be called during the tournament if ice hits Friday night as some predict. At this point, I think that everyone is watching the storm, but no one has called off an event that I am aware of.
