I've lost all respect for him after his 2 unsportsmanlike penalties in the semi at the Bobcat. He should have been disqualified for flagrant misconduct. HIs coaches should should spend some time with him to prevent this from happening again-the match was done and he needs to show some class.
Posted By: Callahan'99 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 02:47 AM
Please explain what happened. I heard about the slam to begin the match, but did not hear any more to it.
Posted By: and1 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 05:23 AM
Yeah I agree he is a good wrestler but a poor sport. SOme of his antics I have seen at other tournaments as well. Not tryin to bash the kid but it is what it is.
Posted By: GO GATORS GO Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 05:27 AM
NOOOOO. Trent Cox is amazing. He has the toughness needed to be the best in the state. SunDevil, you must not be a competitor to say that he is a "embarassment". He is a stud. And the only reason he recieved the last penalty is because williams balled up like a little girl and started to stall out. Trent cox is awesome. love the intensity keep it up.
Posted By: and1 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 05:44 AM
Toughness and unnecessary roughness is different... u can be tough without talkin back to refs, and throwing cheap elbows in the back of your opponents head
Posted By: The_Cards_Rule Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 07:16 AM
what did he do at this tournment. Slamming a kid isnt really all that bad, it must of been one heck off a dirt slam
Posted By: smokeycabin Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 11:40 AM
Go Gators Go

Blaine Williams is a tough kid. Cox is a tough kid. But he had better learn how to return a guy to the mat within the rules. Williams could have been in the finals if he doesn't continue after the slam. Mamie had a similar situation at 189 and his opponent continued. Go Gatos Go - I'll bet if you got dropped on your head or shoulder from about 5 or 6 feet you would think twice about getting up. Those kids that continued are tough and don't be name calling them.

Sean McCarthy
Posted By: Dean Welsh Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 12:18 PM
Well said Mr. McCarthy. And, may I add - if it was YOUR kid getting SLAMMED, you might not think it so neat.

We do have rules for a reason . . .
Posted By: and1 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 01:34 PM
the slam wasnt that bad it all the other little things that u saw if u really watched the match... I didnt think either slam was really that bad... but after seeing several of Cox matches... then after seeing a few of STA kids like Scott Markey, and RJ who recieved some questionalbe calls at the end of their matches and how they handled themselves... there is more to sports than winning
Posted By: OnurFeet Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 02:05 PM
It's tough sometimes, when you hit your hardest double to try and get points, and then they call a penalty for slammin, but its how you react to that is what the difference is in some wrestlers, its nice to show class and sportsmanship.
Posted By: Dean Welsh Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 02:39 PM
The studs that kicked my butt on a regular basis 25 years ago, always seemed to manage to put me back down to the mat without slamming me. Thanks guys! ;-)
Posted By: NeverStop08 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 03:52 PM
Trent Cox is one of the baddest men on earth. I think the reason he got called for the slam was cuz he also had williams arm trapped with it. Sure the elbow wasnt needed, but he had to do somethin to get williams to open up so that he would not get hit for stalling. Good job cox keep it up
Posted By: tonan044 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 03:54 PM
Lets hope Paulie puts him in his place in the finals.
Posted By: GO GATORS GO Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/13/07 04:21 PM
Well smokey cabin to not get up would be the easy way out. i do respect williams for getting up, but the slam wasn't even that bad, i was 5 feet from the mat. And just to let you know that if i was "SLAMMED" from "5-6" feet in the air on me shoulder/neck, i would get up ready to wrestle. It would do the opposite for me and i would wrestle harder. Thanks.

[quote=NeverStop08]Trent Cox is one of the baddest men on earth.

Didn't he have a couple of losses last year? If yes, who to?

Dean:

Act like the adult and try not to agrue with high school kids.

I would take Trent Cox and thirteen others just him like on my team any time and any day.

Trent's record last year was 36-2!

Cox and Furches wrestled at the Rose Hill Invitational and if memory serves me correctly - Cox defeated Furches 4-2.

I believe Furches defeated Cox in Garden City on a questionable officiating call.

Richard-

I have nothing against Cox. And, I was wondering why the thread was left on the board in the first place.

Regarding arguing, i have no idea how old my 'opponent' is. I was merely having a little banter.

furches also defeated cox at kids folkstyle state championship

so who comes on top between Hansen and Cox........ but wait whats with the change in weight class between them
Posted By: sundevil Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/14/07 02:12 AM
The issue here is sportsmanship not who beat who. Trent does have great skills as a wrestler, but when you display that kind of unsportsmanship it is not toughness or 'badness'. It's a lack of maturity that will taint his career until he overcomes it. Williams was tough enough enough to finish his match-Trent was not.

A couple of things, first, if you attended some of these tournaments you would know before making these kind of comments. To say that Nathan won on a "questionable" call takes away from everything else he did in that match. They split 3-2 in 5 matches last year and in 4 of those matches it came down to the last 30 seconds. These two have gone back and forth for at least 8 years, depending on how well you know Trent or Terry, you would know that.

Now my comments, Trent Cox is a class young man, he is aggressive and a tough competitor, I have said for several years, and no offense to any single wrestler in this state of which there are many great ones, Trent is one of the best, and one of the most underrated wrestlers in the nation, period! I do agree on the fact that I would take Trent on a team of mine any day of the week.

On the slam issue, no wrestler is immune from the possiblity of this happening. I don't know what happend at this tournament but I do know Trent, more than just typing a few words on a forum. I also have all of the respect in the world for Paulie, and on the issue of slamming, some would know that the last thing I would do is judge a wrestler because of a slam. Again, on anything else I can't comment because I wasn't there. I know that Terry or the family don't read these boards, so maybe if someone wants to share their opinion about Trent, it would be good to contact them personally.

Its obvious he's in high school genious, his name is neverstop 08 ;\)
Posted By: Dean Welsh Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/14/07 03:31 AM
The word is spelled "genius". The twisted irony of trying to 'slam' someone else's intelligence while misspelling a word which represents intelligence. . . Opps.

I didn't pay any attention to his screen name. I was just dealing with his silly thoughts. Had i paid attention to his screen name i might have thought that "08" was in reference to his I.Q.

;-)

well dr.welsh? you are a doctor right? You are soooo good at picking out everyones grammtical errors. You have such awesome skills to pick out these lttle flaws in people's posts, that you don't notice the fact that your belittling boys, young boys. Your refering to his I.Q. to a newborn baby's. Great job, hope you feel like a big man when your in bed at night reading the dictionary.

Thank You very much Dr. Welsh ;\)
Posted By: Dean Welsh Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/14/07 12:56 PM
My brother is Dr. Welsh. I'm just a school teacher (of course he never could have became a medical doctor without us teachers!).

If i belittled anyone, I apologize. That was not my intent. I am sure that I can benefit from being more sensitive. I'm equally sure that others could benefit from having a little thicker skin AND learn how to 'take it', as well as 'dish it out.' If you are going to dish it out, then you should expect a little back.

And, yes, I read every night but thankfully not the dictionary. I find it rather bland. However, it does come in quite handy if one is not sure of the spelling or meaning of a word. You might try it some time! ;-)

Again, it was not by intent to belittle anyone. My intent was to participate in a discussion on wrestling. However, human nature being what it is, rabbit trails come up.

Hop, hop, hop.
Posted By: and1 Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/14/07 02:04 PM
a Slam in my opinion is not unsportmanlike unless it was intentional. it is all the other little things like starting fights, nice little elbows, talkin back to refs. I dont think anyone questions his wrestling ablility but some of the little things I think some people chooses to over look because he is "Trent Cox" He is a kids just like all the other athletes and athletes should help foster the idea that its not always what u do (win or lose) but how u do it!!! Now thats what comes into question.
Posted By: GO GATORS GO Re: Trent Cox is unsportsmanlike - 01/14/07 04:41 PM
ok that was pretty well said. i'm done writting on this forum, because that was so true.

My statement "I believe Furches defeated Cox in Garden City on a questionable officiating call." was based on the following statement made on January 29, 2006.

If I misinterpreted your statement I apologize.

Congratulations to Nathan on his 2007 Newton TOC Championship.

Has Trent Cox ever wrestled Colt Rogers before? If so how long ago? Seeing Colt wrestle recently I bet that would be a good match.
