My son Howard Johnson from Great Bend who wrestles at 215,will be out for the rest of the season due to a leg injury that was caused from a slip on the ice, while enjoying one of his many pashions in life / Hunting. He broke his lower right leg, and tore ligaments above his ankle. He will be going in for surgery Friday morning. He, and I wish everyone out there the best of luck from here on out, through Regionals, and State. He hopes to be back in time to finish his last year eligible through the Kids Club.
I do know the frustration you are feeling as my son endured a shoulder injury his freshman and sophomore seasons.
The appropriate diagnosis was missed until the sophomore season was over. Very frustrating along with expensive and numerous doctor visits
Finally healthy this year his junior season and two weeks developed a MRSA staff infection. This is very nasty stuff.
I wish Howard well on his recovery!
Howard is a very good wrestler as evidenced by his showing at the Douglas tournament. Please tell that the Andover Central team wishes him a speedy recovery.
Sorry to hear about the injury. I definitely know the feeling, and I hope he can recover quickly.
Salyer, how longs your son out for or is he already back?
Sorry to hear about Howard. Tell him to do everything that the Doc says so he will heal properly & keep his head up. My son at 215 tore his ACL his 1st tournament this year, so we know how disappointing it can be to be out for the season. Use this to motivate yourself to get healed correctly and prepare for next season and come back even stronger. Good luck to you all.
Thanks for the nice words. We was wondering about Tyler, we where at Valley Center. Tyler is one of the many friends Howard has made through wrestling, over the past years. We hope that Tyler is doing well. And thank you, for noticing him at Douglas. Atticus was at the top of his game that day also. Young men like Atticus, and Tyler being the class acts they are, is what makes this sport a pleasure to be involved in.
I was telling Tyler that Howard had gotten hurt and was going in for surgery. Tyler had just had his surgery last Wed and wanted me to tell Howard good luck with his surgery from him. Maybe they can hook-up on the internet and keep each other going while their both recovering. Our thoughts & best wishes for Howard for Friday.
Rob this is Howard and I was wondering if tyler had an msn addy or an e-mail i could talk to him and see how hes doing.
Sure, check your PM, I will send it to you.
Take care
Rob
Ouch...I thought about going out to chase a turkey this past weekend but decided I'd end up breaking my leg and I guess that really is a possibility. Dang.
This morning I actually slipped down the stairs leading from the parking lot into school. You would have thought the steps would have been cleared or salted but they hadnt. Landed all my weight on my right elbow which is very painful now. Dont think its anything too bad though just swollen and bruised. But yeah, everyone needs to watch out. Sorry to hear about Howard. Hope he recovers fast.
HoJo why dont you just grow a set of balls and wrestle through it you pansy. Lol Im just playing with you. The team is going to miss you hurry up and get healthy for kids.
Coach Mouse
Howard are you going to be able to come back to be able to wrestle in kids federation?
I hope to be back for it. Will push myself as hard as i can to get back.
MRSA (severe staff infection) is very scary business. Two years ago my brother ,coming off a back injury from football, wrestled two tourneys and developed MRSA. After 3 weeks of going to the emergency room for a treatment in his pic line, it went away. (Vacamioson)Sp? He got to wrestle regionals (and won), stayed off of it all week and was too out of shape to do too well at state. He won his first match. We ended up going back to the emergecy room for 2 more treatments and then he started taking expensive pill called Zyvox. (very expensive), but thats what ended up clearing it up Finally. Nothing to mess with at all.

Our doctor informed us Tuesday our son was within hours of being admitted to ICU due to the very serious inflamation.
Ryan wrestled last night with a very swollen finger and was unable to accomplish much against a very talented Billy Benz from Eureka.
It is very hard to stay in wrestling shape and very easy to get out of wrestling shape.
For those unaware MRSA staph is very serious, can be deadly, and is reasonable common.
It's tough to hear about any kid that is hurt, it is such a tough sport at times and the injuries don't help things. Good thing the thing with your son was caught Richard. What causes the staff infection? Would be nice to know for future prevention for folks.
Yeah, be careful driving, I slid into a curb and jacked up my alignment pretty bad..
I'm not a doctor, but this is what I know. Staph is a common bacteria found on the skin and in the nose of healthy people.
Sometimes it gets in the body and causes an infection. Person to person contact is the common way it is spread, secretions from infected skin lesions, nasal discharge or hands.
MRSA is especially nasty as it is antibiotic resistant. I know it is most prevalant in the hospital setting, but obviously not unheard of outside of it. Like most infections, careful handwashing and coverage of open skin lesions should help.
Hope that helps.
Thanx Santiago Mom. So WASH up
Yes I agree RichardDSalyer, its very easy to fall out of shape! Too bad it wasnt that easy to get INTO shape, but thats what separates the men from the boys...lol

I know that MRSA has nothing to do with the ICE. But it is just as dangerous, if not more so.
MRSA can present itself quickly, and in different forms. We first thought my brother had an ingrown hair, then we thought maybe it was a spider bite. It is not just your average pain. It is extremely tender, and the longer it goes without treatment the more it turns red and swells. And it goes without quick treatment because people and Drs. just aren't sure what it is. My brothers first diagnois was cellulitus. Then after 4 days the swelling was so big in his knee he could barely get his jeans over it. To make this very long story short...He could have lost his leg if the dr. had poked thru to the bone when taking the culture. If you have pain and swelling and are not sure of the cause, mention the possiblity of MRSA.

To Everyone:
definately watch out for the snow and ice!!! Our wrestling team (scott city) got stuck in Nebraska last night because of the snow and we got back to Kansas the roads were really bad, even if you have 4-wheel drive! Hopefully everyone got home safe from all the tournaments this weekend
