What state champion can you guys think of, who has the least amount of experience???
I know Keaton Baker had like two years under his belt... Thats crazy!
In 1998 my heavyweight wrestler, Darrell Zimmerman, did not come out for wrestling until midway though December. He did not wrestle varsity until the second week of January. That is the length of his career. 4A STATE CHAMPION If you are wondering what he did the other three years, yes, he played basketball.
What about Herrera from Emporia, I heard he had minimal expierience and beat some VERY good wrestlers
I believe Tanner Gardner did not start until the 7th grade. Which means that he may STILL may have a lot of room to improve.
Not to discredit Zimmerman's accomplishment at all because he was a very good wrestler, but didn't he have kid's club experience?
I believe that Danny Desazher from Wichita West started his freshman year and was a two timer. Can anyone validate this?
Doug, I don't know why anyone else is even talking after that statement of yours! .
Nick Newell of Mankato did not wrestle in high school until his Sr. year and was a State Champ 3 years ago at 160.
Rose Hill had a guy back in 96 or so that was jv one year and took 1st the next and those were his first two years to wrestle. Chad Collins I do believe.
Chase Nelson of Wichita Heights was 5-8 last year on the varsity level.
Chase Was Tommy Edgemon a 2nd year wrestler when he won?
I do believe Nick Newell had alot of kids experience though. Didn't he wrestle for Beliot when he was younger? As for the shortest state champ, the shortest I ever seen was Seth Metzler!
Jeff Vesta from Manhattan has to be in the running for "shortest" state champ!!!
Tommy Edgmon started wrestling in the 7th grade and went on to be a 3x champ. The crazy thing is that he wrestled 127 and 120 in middle school and 112 and 119 for his state titles.
Yeah, its called cutting weight.
Well if you seen Tommy in 7th grade you would have recommended that he loose a couple pounds...he was slightly chunky
Tommy still isn't much taller as I remind him everyday...
I was going to say, Tommy Edgmon might qualify for shortest State Champion in more ways than one.....but who am I to talk!
Tim Sayers from hutchinson kansas went 8-12 his 8th grade year then was state chmp in 6A 103 as a freshmen all due to Mike Gracia
Yeah but Tim Sayers wrestled a long time. My cousin and I use to wrestle him all the time when we were little.
Dustin May is pretty short.
I don't know if he was a state champ, but Kory Lira 4a was short as was Michael Pelz Clearwater.
Ken livengood. I think he started pretty late (freshman year if I remember the story right). And if he doesn't win that category, he's only got to be 5 foot at tallest.
Thanks for the great season coach livengood.
Ryan Canale from RH started his sophomore year
