Someone needs to step up and match the Chief's 6A efforts. Since this is my first year to watch HS extensively in a very LONG time I am not really qualified. Lets go with this team list just to get started:
1. Clay Center (Returning 5 state placers & 4 qualifiers)
2. Colby
3. Sante Fe Trail
4. Baldwin
5. Altamont-Labette County
6. Augusta
7. Andale
8. Chanute
9. Pittsburgh
10. Prairie View
103
1. Taylor Moeder - Colby 9
2. Tyson Schmidtberger - Russell 11
3. John Mehl - Perry 10
4. Colton Eck - Andale 9
5. Cassidy Steele - Jefferson County 9
112
1. Alan Callahan - Baldwin 11
2. Darrin Stroot - Andale 12
3. Kenneth Ornelas - Chanute 11
4. Symon Seaton - Basehor 9
119
1. Sharky Slyter - 11
2. Zach Peters - Augusta 12
3. Derek Weller - Piper 10
4. Zak Sparr - Rose Hill 11
5. Ryne Cokeley - St. James 9
6. Logan Singular - Clay Center 10
125
1. Trent Cox - Andale 11
2. Zach Jesseph - Chanute 11
3. Tyler Anderson - Clay Center 10
4. Bryce Hood - Louisburg 10
5. Nick Rockhold - Baldwin 11
130
1. Cameron Jesseph - Chanute 11
2. Dylan Mumaw - Jefferson County 11
3. Brent Luedke - Colby 12
4. Chase Wells - SFT 11
This is a start... A little help from the 4A fans...
I wouldn't rule out Hanson who will be wrestling at 119 or 125.
What about Kevin Callahan at 130? I'll be very surprised if he doesn't place.
Jake Gentzler should be competitive in that 119 class
Jake is a good wrestler, but dont see putting him above anyone Cokely has listed. I see Hansen doing better at 125 than he would at 119. Callahan, probably @135 which is why he's not on Cokely's list???
103 - Dont see a freshman(Moeder) being over Schmidtberger and Mehl. Kids state accomplishments wont necessarily carry over to High School although he will do well I'm sure - Top 4 likely.
112 - I see possibly a couple of the listed 119's trying to spread out and get to 112 which changes things.
119 - As listed, would agree
125 - Hood over Anderson
130 - I like Luedke in one of the top 2 spots, I thought the semi's with Jesseph could have easily went either way. Also, isnt Bowser still at Clay Center? I would put him in the top 5/6 also.
Moeder is that good if he is big enough.
24/7
103
1. Taylor Moeder - Colby 9

112
1. Alan Callahan - Baldwin 11

Jake Zahm should be in the mix somewhere around 130lbs.
I would think Napier from columbus would be right around 135
Napier is going 140 for the Super 32 so I am guessing that is where he will be for state in '08.
Jordon Meyer from Sabetha and Ryan Carlson from Hiawatha should be in the mix at 152 or 160.
Hiawatha has a group of wrestlers that may change the big seven this year. they have Chris Atlakson a two time state qualifier at about 135 then Bryce Olson at 145 and Camron Leupold at 152 and Ryan Carlson A state placer and James Reynolds with some that have wrestled though the kids club and for or five that wrestled last year on the high school team it might be a very good year for Hiawatha and then you bring in a new coach from Rose Hill named Chris Diller and the asst. coach from last year Donnie Stone and it looks like Hiawatha is back as a team to recken with.
I thought Schmidtberger @ 103 was a freshman last year?
They have an advancement program for highly gifted students in Russell

I corrected the error, he will only be a sophomore this season.
103
1. Taylor Moeder - Colby 9
2. Tyson Schmidtberger - Russell 10
3. John Mehl - Perry 10
4. Colton Eck - Andale 9

1. Spencer Hilley - Clearwater 12
2. Bob Doxon - Goodland 12
3. Taylor Brown - Colby 12
4. Cody Moore - Columbus 12
5. Cameron Adcox - Tongie 12
Isn't Nick Kriss back for Colby at 215. I think he placed 4th or 5th last year??
Ryan Carlson should be in the top 4 at 160 in 4a
103 - I expect to see one or two of those 112 pounders at 103. That would put my thoughts on 103 for the pre-season as:
1. Ornelas
2. Stroot
3. Schmidtberger
4. Moeder
5. Eck
6. Mehl
My thoughts on some Colby Wrestlers:
103 - Taylor Moeder - Top 4
112 - Nathen Reed/Cody Wark? - Top 6
130 - Brent Luedke 1 or 2, will be above Mumaw
135 - Hunter Olsen - Top 4
160 - Breck Arnberger Top 6
171 - Tanner Kriss - Top 3
215 - Nick Kriss - Top 4
285 - Taylor Brown - Top 6
Dang, If Colby can place 8 kids they have to be right up there with Clay Center as the favorite! That is a good line up.
24/7
Pittsburg should place pretty high with three possible champions, plus a few others that should pick up some points.
3??? who?? koehn, brown, and who else?
130
1. Cameron Jesseph - Chanute 11
2. Dylan Mumaw - Jefferson County 11
3. Brent Luedke - Colby 12
4. Jake Zahm - Pittsburg
5. Chris Bowser - Clay Center 12
Unless this is an error.

I predict it is!
They have an advancement program for highly gifted students in Russell

I corrected the error, he will only be a sophomore this season.
I graduated from Russell and don't remember an advancement program for highly gifted students. Maybe I wasn't invited...I guess that would explain why it took me 6 years to get my degree.
I predict Pratt will surprise quite a few of you haters and finish in the top 10. I believe Pratt is returning 9 State Qualifiers.

Didn't see any haters...and why brag about top 10?
The haters comment was a joke, and I wasn't bragging about Pratt being in the top ten. Just a simple comment. Isn't the subject 4A predictions?
Saul Landeros from Ulysses should be mentioned as well. He had knee surgery after Hays tournament last year, but is playing football now. He was 215, now closer to 240-250 I think. He would be in the mix at either 215 or 285, assuming he wrestles.
Is T.J Hawkins from Goodland going to be able to make 215 again this year, or will Bobby Doxon be wrestling off for 285 spot?

24/7 - I may be an optimist, but I realistically think those listed could place as I noted. Last year at State:
Reed was 2-2 with a close loss of 5-3 to Ornelas
Wark was 2-2
Luedke - 3rd place
Olsen - 6th place
Arnberger was 1-2, but will be a legitimate 160lber this year which I think gives him a good shot of placing.
T. Kriss - 2-2 last year, however I beleive he could have easily been a placer last year, and fully expect that not to happen again this year.
N. Kriss - 5th place
Brown - was 2-2
All but Arnberger were within a win of placing last year. I wouldnt know if it is enough to keep up with Clay Center, but anything below 3rd place as a team I would think would be quite dissapointing!
I think Colby will be extremely tough this year also.
Moeder,
How many team points will a 103 state championship give Colby?
Will you are still a scumbag! I will let you know about the points if he's still at 103 as a Sophmore, how's that. (AND if you dont stop messing with me, I'm going to share some dirt with Sportsfan02 about you.)

Here's what the NWKSCat came up with to help you with the upper weights, these are the guys he said you needed to add:
135 - Kocher - Pratt and Winter A.C
140 - Peterson AB and Naylor S. H.
145 - Stephens - GD, Lackey - SV, Budke - TMP, Reichard AG, Withnow AB
152 - Prater - Pratt, Carlson Hi, Taylor - TMP, Lund CC, Geisen - Holton, Eck - Andale
160 - Thoman- And, Wilmann CC, Hamilton LAB, Arnberger - COL, Deeds - Gd.
171 - Stuart AG, Kriss COL, Shatt - Douglass, Taylor - GD, Ewing - SFT
189 - Rupnick - Roy.Vall, Randall - PV, Marrs -CC, Meyers - Eudora, Bortz - Pratt
215 - Hamm - Spring Hill, Stanton - PV, Pierce - Circle
285 - Landeros - Uly., and HAWKINS instead of Doxon GD at 285
Mr. Moeder,
Go ahead and delete Pittsburg and TMP from any 4A talk.
From info I have received, Pittsburg will be 5A and TMP will be 321A.
And buy that red head a cheeseburger!!
(AND if you dont stop messing with me, I'm going to share some dirt with Sportsfan02 about you.)
The line forms to the left.
Mitch- Who does it look like that will join 4A? KC-Sumner from 5A? Possibly St George from 3A? I heard Scott City had a pretty big freshman class coming in, but that would only count for the football classification for next year wouldnt it? (And he doesnt need any cheeseburgers, he's there.)
Will,
I just heard that Zach Reeb has moved to Jeff West High School with Dylan and Ethan Mumaw. He could be added to your 135 ranking in 4A.

We need all of the 4A fans, parents, coaches and administrators to unite with 5A and 6A so that we, the wrestling fan community, can enjoy watching 3/4 of the state participants in one place. What is stopping this from happening in 2008?
offer to ship Cozy Inn burgers to wherever the new location would be, then we'll talk.
whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA...
...this isn't my Batman glass
Bobby Doxon beats Spencer every time they wrestle
I agree callahan should place!
What about Chris Coover 135# 10th
Bobby Doxon beats Spencer every time they wrestle
But, what place did Doxon take and what place did Hilley take at state?
Nick Kriss is a senior this year and he has beatin Page he ended up getting 5th last year
what about ryan wuthnow he was good last year but didnt place what do you think he will do this year?
what about quinton wuthnow at 140
Have yet to see any Holton Wrestlers listed...
Kane Lovvorn placed 6th at State last yr as a Freshman @103 should be a force as a Soph.
Upcoming freshmen this yr...Josh Shields and Drake Lovvorn both wrestled well in jr and at federation neither placed at state but all of the above qualified for kids state...not sure where any of the above are at weight wise but whats it matter? Also, Cole Geisen, Zach Shields and a few others that might suprise you.
hey wats up with abilene they should be strong this yr. they are returning some good wrestlers and getting a strong freshmen class
ryan wuthnow from abilene should be a top placer this yr at his weight he made it to state as a freshmen and sophmore but did not place i think this is definatly his yr
wow i how do u not have nick peterson racked he made it to state his freshmen yr and placed 3rd his sophmore yr. he did mess up last yr at regionals but he is coming in as a senior at 140 or 145 and should probably win it he should definatly be ranked
what about u quinton? jk i think you guys have a good chance at beating clay so good luck
What about marvio tishhauser he took 3rd as a sophmore he'll be pretty good this year
and nick will probably wrestle 130 or 135
i didnt know marvo was able to wrestle i think it is bs that you guys aren't even getting recognized cause i no u guys and ur going to be way better than last year.

what does competition look like at 171
i dont know but abilene has a good 71 with Taylor Wuthnow
Deeds and Taylor from Goodland have not decided on what weights they will wrestle, may be 152 & 161 or maybe 160 &171 either way these kids are tough competitors and will fight to the end. Stevens is a machine and will be considerbly tougher mentally this year. Hawkins is up in the air. Look out for a tough kid named Keagan Smith at 140. Fernando Martinez @ 189 may be the sleeper of the year. Kade Sheldon is another kid whose mental toughness has made great strides. Goodland is a team with potential to succeed and if healthy will be be a competitor at regionals and state.
Go Cowboys.
