High School Coaches,

The High School Coaches Forum offers the ability to share information with your fellow high school coaches in a restricted forum. The KWCA is also using the forum to solicit and evaluate proposals for changes to be presented to the Kansas Coaches Association and the KSHSAA for consideration.

If you are a high school coach and do not see the High School Coaches Forum at the top of the High School Forum page, please send an email with your username, email address and school affiliation to mikejuby@usawks.com.

Why are only high school coaches permitted to make suggestions for change?

Coaches,
Please note that Feb. 1st. is the deadline to become a member of the KWCA in order to be elligible for post-season awards such as "Coach of the Year". If you are not already a member, consider joining. Your participation will only make our organization stronger.
Go to the KWCA home page, the form link is in the right-hand column.

Will, We just ask the coaches to submit the recommendations so the coaches can screen suggestions. Please understand that with the 250+/- wrestling schools in KS that would open us up to 5,000 or more parents, fans, ect. that could start a tremendous amount of recommendations which would be more than we can handle and KSHSAA is more likely to listen if we just bring them a handful of recommendations that coaches want to change.
We do want good ideas, so if there is something you feel strongly about, talk to your H.S. coach about it. Also understand we cannot likely do much to change the national rules as Kansas gets penalized in the voting since we do not follow all of the national weigh-in rules. It is the KSHSAA rules that we may be able to influence.

Thanks for your input,
James Stout

Have watched lots of HS sports, coached a lot of youth sports, have sons who played youth, HS and community college sports. Ex athletes in all sports at all levels, previous coaches in all sports at all levels, long term fans, parents, etc., know very little--or nothing-- about any or all sports--at least in the minds of most coaches, school administrators and KSHSAA staff. Coaches--and administrators--like the status quo--it works for them--don't have to worry with new things or systems--just let the same old ball roll along on an old straight and narrow. New ideas cause more work!!!!! Fans, parents, ex players, ex coaches should see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil--and especially make no suggestions!!!!Its about control!

I don't think is necessarily just rules non coaches are concerned about. They are looking at potentially a dieing sport--note the number of open brackets in the regionals-a classification system that is perceived as unfair to the student athlete (i.e., state level qualification)- a wrestling program that locals plus out-of-state fans consider/rank as sub par--lack of instate public colleges and universities with sanctioned/funded wrestling programs that offer wrestling scholarships. A lot of other posters to this forum can add a lot of other issues, dissatisfactions and comments on the inability to be heard. Blocked direct access to KSHSAA has been, is, and will continue to be an issue in this community.

WOW! Way too much negativity for me. I believe it was stated clearly by Mr. Stout that anyone can talk with their high school coaching staff about issues and ask the coach to move the idea forward. In fact, if there are so many great ideas out there for the improvement of wrestling, why not just post the ideas here on the forum. I have been involved in wrestling since 1957 as a junior high school wrestler in Pennsylvania and have seen the sport change in many positive ways over the years. I have been a coach, referee, parent, state administrator among other things. Yes there are certainly things that need to be done to improve our sport, but please do it in a positive fashion. Support your kids, high school and college programs instead of complaining about what is wrong. This forum is a great site for positive suggestions, use it to offer new ideas to help the growth of Kansas wrestling. I have only lived in Kansas for four years now, but I have witnessed first hand great coaches, wrestlers, programs, and indeed great parents and fans. It is a great state for all levels of wrestling. Let's all work to keep it that way!
